There is a 3D platformer called Pac Man World.

In the 80s there was an arcade game called PacMania that had 3D graphics (but gameplay was 2D).

I wonder if it will actually go into the third dimension though.

Oh no! A ghost is coming, go up! Shoot, I mean ... not up ... go vertical, go vertical!

It just seems weird.

I'd love a 1st person Pac-man game. That'd be cool.

pacman wouldn't work so well in 3d. you'd lose the ability to see the whole map at one time if the camera follows pacman, or have a hard time seeing what's going on if the game uses map view.

pacman could work very well on a 3d surface though, especially with some sort of reflection or transparency that lets you see everything at once.

You should try Tunnel Runner for the Atari 2600.

I believe that Pac-Man is fine the way it is.

I seem to recall someone did a real-world (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyAUbtHD8SQ) Pac Man (http://www.pacmanhattan.com/videos.php). Would that be 3D enough for you?

you mean it wasn't 1st person 3D... it was isometric... you had the ability to jump over the ghosts, and I think going up still counts as a 3rd dimension...

I do remember coming across a freeware or shareware pac-man clone many, many years ago in which you had to move vertically between multiple co-planar mazes. It wasn't very well done, though.

There have been a couple PC attemps, such as http://www.cs.umd.edu/class/fall2006/cmsc498m/Projects/1stPersonPacMan/

I sure think I recall there being a mod for Unreal or something as well but I can't remember what it was called.

I'd have expected it to have happened on the PSX or 64. It seems that was bad 3D remake prime-time.

I have accepted the fact that I have moved into the "guy so old that he remembers stuff from before many of you were born" guy. I'm okay with that. Really, I am.

We had a 3D Pac-Man clone on our XT PC ... gosh, back in the mid-80s. I don't remember moving "up" and "down" but, maybe you did. I'd have to disagree that allowing up and down movement is what defines a 3D games, however.
