So I think I will probably get a NES this year for Christmas. I told my mom to get Super Mario Bros. (because everyone with a NES has that game) I might also as for Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario Bros. But what other games should I ask for? :o

Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3
Any of the Megamans
Castlevania 1 or 3
Popeye
Ms. Pac-Man
StarTropics 1 or 2
Pinball
Gun Nac
Pretty much anything made by Capcom

Those are just some of my favorites.

Despite what some people will tell you, castlevania 2 is an excellent game. It has way better music that castlevania 1 or 3.
Definitly check out Star Tropics, Ninja Gaiden 2, kirby's adventure, super dodge ball, kid icarus, dragon warrior 3, 1943, Duck Tales, Shatterhand, Double Dragon, Metroid, Paperboy.. the list goes on.

I agree with Tupin on Capcom (Bionic Commando, a few Disney games, etc) and Castlevania. Get Contras, Double Dragons, Ninja Gaidens, Tetris, TMNTs. I'd try to find Donkey Kong Classics instead (you get 2 games in 1, although it's a little more rare). Konami made some great games, as well. If you get Super Mario 3 you don't need to get Mario Bros right away (it's included as a mini game in 2p mode, if you have a friend). Not quite like the original, but ok to pass the time.

Metroid, TMNT 3, Bucky O'Hare (is that easy to find?), Contra, Duck Tales, Adventure Island 3, Twin Bee, Rockin' Kats...

Oh, and try to find a top-loader. You'll save ALOT of time trying to get a game to work as opposed to the old toaster-style.

Thank you for the replies! I'm going to try and choose between some of these. I can only ask for a few games for Christmas.

And I doubt it's a top loader, because my mom already bought it ( I think ) and I forgot to tell her that. Hopefully its in good condition and everything will work find. I'll just have to find out! @_@

1. What kind of games do you like?

2. Why the hell has no one mentioned Legend of Zelda?

Some of the must-own games for the NES are

CONTRA!
Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 2
Metroid
The Goonies 2 (REALLY fun Konami game)
Megaman 2
Bionic Commando
Blaster Master

I'd like to add Maniac Mansion to the "must have" games list. My favorite game on the NES.

I played it once at a friend's house, it is one of the best games I have ever played. Where did you buy your copy from?

If nothing else get Super Mario Bros. 3. Thats one game that will never, EVER let you down. Exciting, amazing graphics and sound (for the Nintendo Entertainment System) and great replay value. Takes a long time to beat and is even more fun with 2 people.

Hell, 1988.

Better not be some little emo kid with an Atari shirt who's never played a 2600, that's all I say.

(Also, Maniac Mansion NES has some rad beats. Shadowgate too)

Once again, thanks to all of you who recommended some games. Will have to keep some of these in mind next time I go to the store. (Probably some time after Christmas)

P.S. I am not an emo kid, and I have played an Atari 2600... haha

Uninvited, Shadowgate, and Deja Vu are all pretty solid adventure games.
Uninvited may be tougher to find, but it's worth it if you're a fan of point-and-click adventure games.
I don't think anybody else has mentioned BoulderDash either, it's an addictive little action/puzzler and is worth checking out (and I second recommending the Lolo series and Bucky O'Hare as well.)
Also, a bunch more "B" games: Batman (only the first one... it's probably my favorite movie-game), Bubble Bobble, and The Blue Marlin.
Good luck building your collection! :D

You gotta go for two Rare titles:
Snake Rattle n Roll (really good)
Taboo: the sixth sense (really bad)

Snake Rattle n Roll (really good)
Taboo: the sixth sense (really bad)

Correction: Taboo is really, really, really bad. I just picked it up this weekend since it was the only NES game released with a warning (kind of a nice conversation starter). The 8-bit nudity almost made it worth the $3.00 spent.:bareass:

Bloodreign
12-01-2008, 02:36 PM
Bubble Bobble
Mega Man 1-6 (I don't care if folks bash 4-6, they are still pretty solid)
Vice Project Doom
R.C. Pro Am
Goonies II
Gradius
Life Force

Heck the NES was stacked with good games, some crap titles as well, but folks here will tell you what's truly awful and what is good.

I just hope Snake Rattle n Roll isn't like an 8-bit Rick Roll. haha
