View Full Version : Does Anyone Else Collect GameCube Kiosk Demos?

Hey there... I've been collecting those GameCube Kiosk demos for a bit, and I find myself having a hard time finding fellow collectors to swap with.

Does anyone else here collect them?

I'm looking for: Jan 2002, July 2002, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31, and 34.
I'm looking for -cases- for: June 2002, 8, 17, 22, 23, 28.

I have a large number of opened -and- sealed demos to trade for them, especially in the 10-24 range, although I have more in storage.

Anyone else looking for any?

Welcome :)

First of all, this thread is in the wrong forum. But then as a new joiner presumably, you won't be able to see the buying/selling forum just yet until 10 days have passed. This was implemented to stop fly-by-night sellers just joining to spam their sales. So this thread will be moved, but hopefully keep a shadow so you can still visit it and check!

Back to the topic at hand. Some of the discs are impossibly hard to get hold of, especially #17 and #25. I still don't have the inlays for those two, just the discs. No one I know who owns those two (not many) have the inlays either. So good luck getting them. The others are easy by comparison :p

Yes I do own all 35 kiosk discs, plus the service disc. That's because I also own a complete US Cube set on top. Madness? This is GAMECUBE! LOL

So theres only 35 kiosk discs and 1 service disc? I could have swore i heard someone talking about another service disc.
Could you fill me in on the stand alone demos with just sleeves?
Also the demos that come packaged with games too?

I've wanted to start collectiong gamecube demos, but don't really have much info on this, I only have around 5 demos so far.

I am sure that 1 2 P will hop in here, here is pretty knwoedgable about this shit as well.

I am pretty confident that there is a metroid prime version out with a mp2 demo.

There is one demo disc i have that has billy hatcher, splinter cell, and a couple others that can be found pretty easily. There is also the Rebel Strike demo disc.

I know that 1 of the zelda's (i think collector's edition) has the windwaker demo, so it is a demo.

Now do you want just demos, or special discs as well (including bonus discs). I know there are a couple bonus discs that are pretty easy to find like the pokemon one and the mario kart one.

bcks007

Yeah a list of bonus discs would be nice too.

There might be others, but the ones I can think of off hand are the 2 I mentioned, the Mario Kart one and the Pokemon one.

I can only think of three demos that came in sleeves... the Naruto 2 demo, the Soul Calibur 2 demo, and the Resident Evil 4 demo. Naruto came in a square sleeve that replicated the box art, and was available as a giveaway from Gamepro. Soul Calibur came in the same kind of sleeve, but was only available as a demo for the kiosks at certain stores and wasn't normally given away (I lucked into mine when my local Gamestop tossed it into their "freebee" box). Resident Evil 4 came in a sleeve version, that you had to send away for after registering the "Pure Evil" box set of RE0 and RE1.

bcks007

I knew about those first 2 sleeves, but not about the Resident Evil 4 demo with sleeve. Do you have a picture of what it looks like or link to one? I also thought the Resident Evil 4 demo came packed with a game or something? I got my copy of it disc only.

Hello. There are (to my knowledge)

35 Interactive Multi-Game Demo Discs
1 Service Disc
1 Demonstration Test Disc

Star Wars Rebel Strike demo
Nintendo Gamecube Preview Disc
Naruto 2 demo
Pacman Vs demo
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes bonus disc
Mario Kart Double Dash bonus disc
Soulcalibur 2 demo
Pokemon Colosseum demo
Resident Evil 4 demo

If you count these:

4 Zelda promo discs (Collectors, Master Quest, Wind Waker/Metroid Prime, Wind Waker/Master Quest)
The PC media gamecube promo disc

I think that's it. There may be a few more :-D

I heard a rumour that one of the kiosk demo discs never came with a paper inlay insert because it was sent to stores bundled with Donkey Konga bongos, or something of that effect. I heard the story a while ago and have no idea if it's true or not, but maybe that would explain why you've never seen an inlay for #17 or #25? Do you think there is any truth to that? Thanks

Mayhem

Yeah I've heard similar, and it would make some sense. The guy I got #25 from had a set of heavily used bongos to sell with it (which I passed up on).

I believe Slidee's list is correct; I own all of them and I can't think of any others! :p

I'd say his list is complete too unless something else gets uncovered. With Playstation and Xbox demos something new always gets discovered every year for like 5 years running now. And thats just for the US PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 demos.

35 Interactive Multi-Game Demo Discs
1 Service Disc
1 Demonstration Test Disc
Any idea what that Demonstration Test Disc is? Is that the one that is essentially the Oct 2001 disk with a different label, or....?

Star Wars Rebel Strike demo
Nintendo Gamecube Preview Disc
Naruto 2 demo
Pacman Vs demo
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes bonus disc
Mario Kart Double Dash bonus disc
Soulcalibur 2 demo
Pokemon Colosseum demo
Resident Evil 4 demo
I actually have all of those. Whee.

4 Zelda promo discs (Collectors, Master Quest, Wind Waker/Metroid Prime, Wind Waker/Master Quest)
The PC media gamecube promo disc
Of the Zelda disks, I thought there were only 3 disks -- that is, the Wind Waker / Metroid Prime is just a double case with both games, as opposed to being a unique title.

I heard a rumour that one of the kiosk demo discs never came with a paper inlay insert because it was sent to stores bundled with Donkey Konga bongos, or something of that effect. I was told the same thing about #17 by a NOA rep, but I've heard another person claim to have seen one before.

I didn't know 17 was so hard to come by....

bcks007
12-02-2008, 04:48 AM
Pacman Vs demo, is that with another game or have a sleeve or case for it?

Resident Evil 4 demo, doesn't that come with the Resident Evil 0 game? Or does it also come in a sleeve like the person above in this topic posted? Or is it both?
If it doesn't come with the Resident Evil 0 game, then what comes with that?

Nintendo Gamecube Preview Disc, is that the billy hatcher, splinter cell, and a couple others on that demo? Or is it the other demo im thinking of, that shows a gamecube on the cover and is in a cardboard sleeve, is that the The PC media gamecube promo disc?

What is paper inlay insert? Is there the artwork around the case, or something else that comes inside the case?

I get the impression I'm going to need to take photos of everything I have just so people can study and check off what they have...!

Any idea what that Demonstration Test Disc is? Is that the one that is essentially the Oct 2001 disk with a different label, or....?

Yep. Well the disc is the same, the inlay is different, a black photocopy job to be fair.

Of the Zelda disks, I thought there were only 3 disks -- that is, the Wind Waker / Metroid Prime is just a double case with both games, as opposed to being a unique title.

Technically, yes. But it was only available in one or two Cube packs and not for on the shelf retail sale. Maybe that's why it was included here.

I didn't know 17 was so hard to come by....

As stated above, #17 and #25 are easily the two hardest to find, the latter being the last one I managed to acquire. For $10! I got lucky...

Pacman Vs demo, is that with another game or have a sleeve or case for it?

It was automatically included with copies of R:Racing Revolution as a two disc case release. It was also available in a separate cardboard sleeve as a pre-order bonus for I-Ninja.

Resident Evil 4 demo, doesn't that come with the Resident Evil 0 game? Or does it also come in a sleeve like the person above in this topic posted? Or is it both?

There were two ways to get this. One was a pre-order bonus from Gamestop for RE4 in a standard Cube case with printed inlay. Second was to send off the flyer inside the "Pure Evil" two pack and you had it sent to you direct by Capcom through the mail. I own both of these heh!

Nintendo Gamecube Preview Disc, is that the billy hatcher, splinter cell, and a couple others on that demo?

Yes. Easily the most common demo disc out there, in fact there were so many that stores started selling separately or throwing them in with other purposes instead of just with new GameCube console buys.

I added the Zelda games to the list because they say Not For Resale on the back of the game cases. Those are questionable though. I wouldn't take my list as a definite list, I just typed it up real quick, it could be missing some things. I would add or remove things from that list at your discretion, based on if YOU think it is important to collect. Personally I only collect the kiosk demo discs, service disc, test disc, and Zeldas. Things like the Pacman VS disc, Naruto 2 disc, or PC media disc aren't that important to me (though I do keep them if I somehow obtain them by chance)

Mayhem, you say that #17 and #25 are the two hardest of the kiosk demos to find, and that you've never seen a paper inlay for them. Well, I have all the kiosk discs complete with inlays EXCEPT for the inlays for #17 and #25 (I do have the discs though) (I'm also missing the January 2002 disc but have the inlay). Go figure!

If anybody else is looking for these, I have (all complete unless otherwise noted and available for trade or sale) Aug 2002, 9 (disc only), 10, 11, 12, 12 (disc only), 14, 20 (disc only), 24, 24 (disc only) 28, 33, 33, 34, Pacman VS (sealed), Pacman VS (disc only), Naruto 2

slidee

Oh sorry. It's just the piece of paper thing that is inserted around the case. Not the instructions book or anything like that. These discs never had instructions books.

Ok good, for the ps2, we call that artwork. Maybe we should for the gamecube kiosk discs too?
So inlay was confusing the hell out of me, thinking it was inside the case.

Also is there anyway to tell if a certain case comes with a certain disc?
I ask because DavidDayton first post states he needs the case for #17, if there is no difference, couldn't he just swap or find a generic game case, but a GC one of course, and use that and call it complete? I could be overlooking something here.....

Also is there anyway to tell which method my Resident Evil 4 demo came from? I just have the demo loose, and nothing else.

The correct term is insert. Artwork is well... artwork in the broad side of a barn sense. That NES box is a box, but the picture on it is the artwork.

The case is just a gamecube case, (to answer your other question), but a case without that kiosk insert, isn't really a complete thing. It'd be pretty rare to just find loose inserts without a case to go with it. Those tend to not be split up all that often.

All the cases are identical, but the inserts for the cases differ... each kiosk demo has a uniquely printed insert with the kiosk number/name on it.

#17 and #25 don't have inlays according to other people who posted in this topic, so your #17 that you need a case for, would be complete if you just had a normal gamecube case for it. Thats what i was trying to say by my comment.

Ah... the only problem is that, unless I'm nuts, I've been the only source for the claim that 17 and 25 are definately "caseless"... no one else has -seen- one, of course, and that's pretty telling, but no one else has any more info on that. All I know is that a NOA rep told me 17 never had a case, as it was shipped with bongos... I have no clue as to 25. OTHER bongo-compatible demo disks had cases...

slidee
12-04-2008, 01:26 AM
As of right now, I would assume that the inserts for 17 and 25 do exist unless we are proven without a reasonable doubt that they don't exist. Currently we only have circumstancial evidence that suggests that those inserts may not exist.

Also, I just checked my #17 disc, and it doesn't say "DK Bongos Compatible" on it. I don't have a Gamecube hooked up right now so I can't test this, but are you guys sure that #17 has a Donkey Konga demo on it? If 17 doesn't have a Donkey Konga demo on it, then I really don't buy the "it came with the bongos" story. Also, on another note, my #25 does indeed have the "DK Bongos Compatible" stamp, so I would buy the "it came with the bongos" story for #25

Great... I'll toss 17 in tonight and double check. I am 99.9999% sure it does, as I remember being told that WHEN I got the disk and playing it later, when I confirmed it... but there is always I chance I'm mixing it up with something else.

Edit: Yep, 17 has Donkey Konga on it as a playable demo, along with a video of Jungle Beat.

Yeah, I'm gonna pay $212 for a generic as flab GameCube game case for the demo of DONKEY KONG JUNGLE BEATS. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I mean, I bought Aleste II MSX2+ for LESS than that. Not much, but if these bidders decided to put their money towards good games instead of just random crap nobody but museums (if they're lucky) will want in the future, my time collecting would be so much harder.

I can understand the need to complete your collection(I'm 8 demos away from a complete Xbox collection) but if I spend that much I better be getting something back.

This actually reminds me of the time me and Dangerboy both bid at the last second on a huge lot of PS1 demos several years ago. I won(of course) but it ended for around $250. It was like 50-80 different demos, many of them kiosk disc. Out of that whole lot I only needed 15. So after I took out what I needed I sold the rest in lots and made the entire $250 back. Thats what you call smart turn around:)

Yeah, I bid on it too, but $200+ was out of my range.

If you do, I would recommend watermarking it in some fashion so that everyone can tell the difference should fake cases appear for sale.

Congrats. I'm glad you won. Although it does seem like we won't see another one for awhile, usually high prices like this lead others to sell their games in hopes of making a similiar profit. So we might see another case for 25 sooner than you think.

Of all things, why is the box for one or two out of 30+ kiosk demos so hard to find? You'd think if the box is hard to find the disc also would be but that doesn't seem to be the case here. It just sounds so random. Weird.
