View Full Version : Why doesn't the DP database distinguish between different versions of the same game?

Hello, everybody.

I was wondering why the DP database doesn't distinguish between different versions of the same game. For example, on the sixth generation consoles, many games have more than one version, such as an original version and then a "greatest hits" type version.

Dreamcast has "Sega All-Stars."
Gamecube has "Player's Choice."
Playstation has "Greatest Hits."
Playstation 2 has "Greatest Hits."
XBox has "Platinum Hits."

From a collector's standpoint (at least to me, anyway), there is a difference between an original release and a "greatest hits" release. Why don't we update the database to include both versions?

I am certainly willing to do my part and contribute to updating the database in any way I can.

Prices are for non greatest hits versions, nothing more. If there's a greatest hits version then it's usually noted in the description. Greatest hits are generally worth much less than an original printing, and since it's noted there's no reason to have individual listings.

Thank you for the explanation. After reading it, I went back and checked, and it seems the "Platinum Hits" version is noted in the database for some games that have one, but not all of them (which is why I never noticed it before).

Still, I guess with that rationale, we need only update the description of those games that have a greatest hits version that is not mentioned, rather than add another entry to the database. Thanks.

The database is always being updated, most collectors don't care about rereleases so they get neglected. Your welcome to help out, you have to start a thread (console specific) that lists the missing relrelease entries and it will eventually get moving.

its just a label variation often noted but usually not listed. personally I would like to see the 2600 list with variation but the book would be three times bigger so I completely understand why there not there.

Well I was wondering and it's kind of on topic.. Wikipedia states that a "Sega All-Star version of Ready 2 Rumble Boxing was released. I have never seen one of these. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, I used to work at ShopKo and we had this game for a while in early 2000. While most Greatest Hits, PH, or SAS titles are worthless, 2 Dreamcast Sega-All Star titles are very hard to find, Marvel vs Capcom and Power Stone is almost impossible to find in any condition, I have seen Marvel vs Capcom at one Walmart store back in early 2000 (should've picked it up).
