My beloved Saturn with the special dip switch that toggled between USA and Japanese games died over Thanksgiving. I think it got jostled a bit too hard... the dip switch came loose and disappeared into the Saturn's innards. Any specialists out there with any ideas what happened? The CD drive doesn't spin anymore.

Well since it's currently dead... feel like opening the baby up? I think you just need a phillips head screwdriver... I have one with a working everything sans video out I still need to repair so I'm brushing up on the Saturn innards as well.

1. Open the console.
2. Try to find the point where the dipswitch's wire came loose
3. Solder it back on.
Maybe that's also killing some signal that the Saturn looks for before it spins the CD motor?

Your Saturn died over Christmas last year (2007), or are you talking to us from the future? Either way, I would assume that if the switch fell in, that it may be blocking or may have disconnected something that is causing the drive not to spin anymore.

It may depend in what modification was done...If it was just a simple "jumpers" switch...Maybe they have come loose, broken or the wires could be touching against each other inside as well.....Take a look...Sounds like it was a poor lousy job....Hopefully, is nothing major like the laser....
