Heres my list:
10.The Apple stuff in MGS4 (which really ruined the experience for me. OTACON WOULD NOT USE A MAC. He would at least use windows, probably linux. or his own OS.)
9.The fact that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft can't get along to do ANYTHING cool (I want Master Chief in SSB dammit!)
8.The steady decline in the quality of Sega products since round about the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
7.Jack Thompson and the immature way he was dealt with by people outside of the ESA. I'm looking at YOU Adam Sessler.
6.Copyright laws. games from the Atari era should be public domain by now (I have this problem with ALL media though. did you know that the copyright on 1984 won't run out till at least 2044?)
5.The lack of female protagonists, antagonists and standard enemies.
4.The fact that Nintendo hasn't made a new franchise worth talking about in years.
3.The fact that people still buy terrible games, ESPECIALLY movie based ones
2.Any PC copy-protection except for steam. its going to get broken anway, and its hella annoying.
1.The gaming crash of '83, and the reasons that led up to it.
What about you guys? What just makes you angry?

Here are my 10 for now
10.) Gaming leagues going away (except for that league that played WoW)
9.) Adam Sessler. Just everything in general about him. I got this one from the dude above me.
8.) People who don't play online. Really? I can see if you are downloaded games or add-on packs and then go offline, but why even be online if you don't utilize it. It would be like me putting down the money for my own dedicated T1 line to check my e-mail. Save the world some bandwidth and disconnect from the net if you are not using it.
7.) Closed Minded people who will not play a game and give it a chance and say things like, "Nah, I will stick to my Madden"
6.) Exceptions to the rules. This is when people will bitch and moan about everything except for 1 or 2 items. I love when people say, "I Hate all FPS games except for Halo". Bad example, I know, but it kinda gets the point across
5.) Games using graphics only for appearence. If you can blow up a wall, it should hurt you to have a wall fall on you. With how graphics keep moving, I want to break my arm, see it break, and then not be able to use it until I get it fixed.
4.) one system dedicated fanboys. Sure I am a Sega fanboy, but I love the other systems too
3.) Video games getting blamed for stupid stuff.
2.) Sega Haters. Show me one crappy Sega game after Genesis and I will show you 10 good ones! I could start a rant, but even thinking about Sega Haters gets me all riled up. I need to calm down for a second.
1.) Shotty hardware that the company won't fix!

8.The steady decline in the quality of Sega products since the end of the Dreamcast's run.
Fixed.
7.Jack Thompson and the immature way he was dealt with by people outside of the ESA.Most of the time, Thompson brought it on himself.
3.The fact that people still buy terrible games, ESPECIALLY movie based onesYeah, it sucks, but that's the way things go.
6.) Exceptions to the rules. This is when people will bitch and moan about everything except for 1 or 2 items. I love when people say, "I Hate all FPS games except for Halo". Bad example, I know, but it kinda gets the point across
For amusement, ask them if they liked Goldeneye back in the day. :p

Ok, lets have some fun here. :D
10.) PC games being shipped in a "pre-alpha" state, mmorpg's being
the biggest offender...I would really like the game I PAID FOR!@
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.) Having to install games on consoles....seriously , come on.
It eats up way too much hard drive, there has to be an alternate solution!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8.) DRM... no need to explain really.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.) Lack of connectivity. Sure I can connect my psp to my ps3,
watch movies over the connection and play various games, but
come on, there could be many more intergrations. Let me
take my characters with me and bring them back home!
Rear view mirror for racing games??? The possibilities are
endless yet very under utilized.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.) Lack of Dolby Digital 5.1. There is no reason ANY game
in this day and age should lack 5.1 sound unless the system
isn't capable. Oh and make the fucking menus in 5.1 too....
start the fucking 5.1 when the first fucking screen shows up
and don't stop and try and trick me with some pro logic shit,
I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.) Voice chat. Is it to much to ask to get decent voice chat in
games without things being garbled and scrambled, without having
to constantly say (WHAT DID YOU SAY!) *smacks head*.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.) Automatic Matchmaking. Gotta confess, I hate this shit. I don't
want YOU to pick my server and opponents for ME. I want to
pick the server I want to play on. GIVE ME A FUCKING LIST!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.) Lack of AO only titles! Won't sell my ass! They just don't
wanna take heat cause little billy might get a copy. That didn't
stop the porn industry! 8==> --- ps, don't forget the violence. :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.) Screwed up default controls and no custom setting! It's bad
enough when you get a game that has the worst default layout
ever, it's even worse when it has 5 layouts that suck equally.
CUSTOM CONTROL....say it with me....custom FUCKING CONTROLS!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) Cliffhanger ending..... fuckin A man, every game these days
has a fucking cliffhanger ending. Is it to much to ask to get a
good ending anymore???? END THE FUCKING GAME!
I DONT CARE ABOUT THE SOON TO BE RELEASED DOMO ARIGATO
MR. ROBOTO MASTER CHIEF METROID SYMBIOTE MEGA SUPER
SUPERLATIVE WHO GIVES A FUCK #9.
JUST END THE FUCKING GAME I'M PLAYING AT THE FUCKING MOMENT!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So to conclude things........ this was a fun list. I tried to control myself, but I got too mad. :p

Rather happy this topic's here, I'm feeling pretty steamed right now and could use a good vent. :) Let's see...
10. The decline in independent publishers. Thank god for Xbox Community games, even if most of them aren't worth a second play, they're at least generating interest in the developers.
9. Storylines where they don't belong. Looking at you here, Doom 3 and Quake 4.
8. The Wii software line-up post-Animal Crossing. Learned from the failure of the Gamecube, have we Nintendo?
7. Attitudes like that of the Australian government regarding gaming being solely (at best) an adolescent pursuit. Pure retardation.
6. Shops destroying most of their retro stock and sticking the rest out at ridiculous prices.
5. Casual gamers who won't even give stuff like Loco Roco or Echochrome a LOOK. Jesus Christ this one really pisses me off. 'Why would I want to play that when the new Madden's out?' ARGH!
4. The stereotypical Halo 3 players who, sadly, are all too real.
3. Ubisoft. Just... Ubisoft. (until BG&E2 anyway)
2. The Wii's pathetic internal memory and Nintendo's refusal to do anything about it.
1. Sonic Team seemingly being unable to do a damn thing right.
Addendum- one more- miserable gits like me!
SpaceHarrier

10. ebay pricing culture reaches mainstream. I have walked into a store, picked up a game and asked "how much" and the shop owner looks up the price online... I see $30-40 dollar NES games at swapmeets..
9. We now have to accept that half finished games will reach market then be subsequently patched.
8. The steady decline in the quality of Sega products since the early days of the Xbox.
7. Console and handheld firmware updates.
6. People pirating PSP software to the point that no one develops for it anymore.
5. Was already mentioned, but, the mere fact that shovelware actually sells is fairly disappointing.
4. Hardware reliability issues.
3. DRM
2. I don't care that much that Nintendo has no new franchises, but get all the rest of the established ones out the gate for cryin out loud!

10. DRM, pretty self explanatory.
9. The fact that PC games always utilize the most advanced hardware, leaving me(and alot others) behind because we can't afford the latest and best parts.
8. Patches for games, mostly on PC.
7. The fact that most games that look decent on the Wii, fail due to horrible control issues(Red Steel, and most FPS games). Should have an option to use motion controls, or a regular controller.
6. Music games. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are fun, but now everyone is trying to do the same thing. Also similar to this, Guitar Hero on the DS...
5. Not enough good classic style RPG style games for consoles, most are on the DS it seems.
4. MMORPGs, everyone is making one, and they are all repetitive pieces of shit.
3. Too many sequels, not enough original ideas/concepts.
2. Sega not making another console :(
1. Nintendo's online service. Get rid of the damn friend codes and make the online experience a lot less of a hassle.
Half Japanese

Generic/nu-metal protagonists. I don't want to play as a guy who looks like he just bought tickets to see Disturbed. No cornrows/dreads on white guys, baggy cargo camo pants, Oakley shades, etc. The most obvious recent example here is the new protagonist in Bionic Commando.
Escort missions. I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to quit playing a game because you have to escort idiot AI characters around. Dead Rising is the best example of this. I quit playing it because I was tired of having my idiot companions getting chomped to death by zombies because they wouldn't fire the gun I gave them or otherwise step around those that would have them for dinner.
Testosterone-drenched theme songs by a shitty rock band. There's enough butt-rock on the radio, I don't need to hear it every time I fire up a first person shooter. I wasn't interested in Haze in the first place, but hearing that Korn recorded an exclusive track for it sank my interest into the negative.
Underwhelming Obstacles. I hate having to take the long way around because my character has decided that he's ill-equipped to hop a waist-high fence or can't otherwise surmount a poorly blocked-off obstacle in the short path. There are a few instances of this in Left 4 Dead, but this one applies to literally hundreds of games.
Weak DLC. Oh yeah Namco, the cheesy dance tracks you provided on the Ridge Racer 6 disc just weren't enough, please overprice and make available some more! And Take 2 and EA, I'd love to pay money on top of the $60 price tag on Bioshock and Dead Space to wear new outfits in a SINGLE-PLAYER game where only I can see them!
Franchises. Nintendo and Sega have worn out most of their franchise characters. I don't care if I never see another Mario or Sonic game. What people liked about the original games is that they were simple to play, slightly harder to master, and were just plain fun. Releasing a new title in a tired franchise with little more than a gimmick to run on is a sure-fire way to make me stop giving a shit.
Xbox Live Arcade's Standards. Who buys Boogie Bunnies, Coffeetime Crosswords, Beat'n Groovy, and Crazy Mouse? Remember that month of above-average to great releases and how it set sales records for XBLA? Not a coincidence. See also: the Wii library.
Not ten, and not numbered, but there's my contribution.

I don't really have a lot to complain about, but there are a few things I hate about gaming.
10. Shipping a buggy product because you know you'll be able to fix it with patches.
9. Companies blaming server overload when they know darn well a huge release will generate lots of online play.
8. People who look down on casual gamers.
7. People who pirate software and then complain about DRM.
6. All the hype for EVERY big budget FPS that comes out.
5. DLC content that you have to PAY TO UNLOCK ON THE DISC. Beautiful Katamari, I'm looking at you.
4. Mother 3 will never get a proper release.
3. The DS's D Pad
2. The 360 D Pad
1. eBay flippers who complain about how they're being charged eBay prices at flea markets/garage sales.
EDIT: Fixed the numbers so they count down.

10.) people calling all non mainstream bad games without trying them. I noticed that with the vc to much.
9.) fanboys making petitions for the sake of preventing games from being release on a system the don't like.
8.) game companies bribing review sites for giving higher rating or preventing sites from showing their review score untill the company sales copies of games. See Edios
7.) Companies not releasing the whole game on disc or download.
6. Nintendo not having hard disk drive
5.)media, cops and layers blame video games for teens and adults without knowing all the facts.
4.) Stores over pricing used games. Looks at gamestop.
3.) shops selling broken or used video game items without consumers being aware of it.
2.) game companies releasing games with bugs on purpose because they want to meet the release date.
1.) Game companies get exclusive license rights to sports games. Game quality on some types of sports games went down to the lack of competition from another publisher.

1. Unskippable Cutscenes are stupid, plain stupid.
2. People that say $15 is too much for a downloadable game, Keep on playing them demos ;)
3. Sonic Team, FFS sonic is a very easy formula yet you manage to screw up every time, WTF?
4. also XBLA standards, look above.
5. DLC that was a standard inclusion in last gen titles, gone are the days of an awsome game with lots of unlockable content, now you have to pay for it
6. MM9 for reason stated in number 5
7 Nintendo's handlling of the Wii, it is a no brainer profit maker for nintendo so they have opted to not really do anything good for there core base, no new franchise's no storage medium, no originality, this will come back to bit you in the ass next gen when the wiimote is stale.
8. MS's hard drives, $199.95aud for a 120gb hard drive, harharhar.
9. PAL delays, why the hell in this modern day and age should we wait a year for something like SuperPaperMario to get released?
10. Without a doubt the thing I hate the most is the buggy mess of games that ship now, please go back to your old methods and playtest more instead of getting the game out and patching later, this is a gigantic step backwards.

Here's some stuff I hate, from an "old timer doesn't like change" perspective. (Keep in mind there are things I like about modern gaming compared to the old days)
10. Great 2D games being "quarantined" to the handheld platforms (I hate playing handhelds!) because they're not flashy enough to be on a more powerful console.
9. Consoles doing all this shit besides playing video games.
8. Nothing can be played with arcade joysticks anymore.
7. Games where they make combat too damn complicated, requiring you use the combat functions of all 24 buttons.
6. Losing in an action game because I'm completely disoriented thanks to the camera angle going all wonky during the combat/action scenes. I HATE that.
5. All the bullshit you have to go through nowadays to play a damn game. (Put the game in the console, wait for the console logo to play, wait through the animated logo screen for the publisher, then for the developer, then for the company who they licensed the sound technology from, then for one of the studio's investors, then through the story's loading screen, then through the story, then the title screen's loading screen, then the title screen, then you have to adjust 400 different options, then you have to be trained about all the 24 button combat moves I mentioned above, then learn how to talk to people, then learn how to talk to people from behind, for bonus achievement points, then they train you how to distribute those bonus points) Then an hour into all that you find out the game's not that exciting. I really miss "Put the game in the system, turn it on, press start."
4. Gaming media, like news and review sites, magazines, etc. Every one of the asshats who write for them try to be witty with their stupid little jokes littered throughout the article. (They're not funny) Just tell me about the damn game, if I want to laugh I'll watch comedy.
3. DRM. I wish they could come up with a way to combat piracy without making it a pain in the ass for legitimate consumers.
2. Bringing back classic game properties, and doing it all wrong.
1. Not giving 2D a chance. (Though I'm glad to see XBLA starting to remedy this)
10. When playing on a old cartridge console (like the NES) And how the game just glitches up at random times or by the slightest touch.
9. Nintendo not taking full advantage of the next generation and focusing more on milking Wii Fit/Sports/Music.
8. The Xbox's 360's backwards compatibility problems (not all games are compatible yet and even worse having to buy new, expensive controllers).
7. Breakway Xbox/360 wired controllers. The idea should have never been conceived, it causes more problems than it was intended to remedy.
6. Overpriced necessities ($100 for a wireless adapter + no built-in wi-fi, get with the program, Mircosoft, there was even built-in wi-fi on the DS, so there's no excuse)
5. Terrible media reviewers bashing certain games.
4. Guitar Hero/Rock Band/FPS games getting 80% of the attention. Seriously, there are too many GH ads everywhere, I'm sick of that. Nothing against the game.
3. FPS games dominating the AIAS Game of the Awards for the past 6 years.
2. Spoiled/ungrateful/critical gamers who hate a game over the smallest, personal details.
1. Console fanboys who buy the competitor's console and games just to write bad reviews on it, the day the game comes out ANYWHERE (especially when a game is released in Japan first and they import it and have the fastest possible shipping for that very reason)

meh, I like the breakaway cables. Theyve certainly saved my ass a few times.
As for#9 though, if I ever have to play wii tennis again I'm going to strangle the nearest non-gamer, assuming that the nearest non-gamer is the one who asked me to play that game again. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

In no order:
1. People who do nothing but complain about the smallest shit that Nintendo does. Kinda like a reverted fanboy, where every single thing they do amounts to the guy saying "well, it's good, *BUT*" and focusing less on the game and more on the lack of etc. This also goes for people who do the same thing for whatever Sony/MS does, but I've come across far more people who do it to the N.
2. The term 'Hardcore Gaming'. What formerly described someone as a gamer who played a wide variety of games now equals someone who plays nothing but the top 5 games all the time. I sound like a snob saying that but it's dumb.
3. Maybe this should be 2.5 but when people bash a game because it doesn't meet the 'Hardcore Gaming' standard. shut up, fuck off, etc
4. When a game gets a remake and it's exactly like the original or even better and people complain mostly about one minor detail changed. Example: When Kirby Super Star came out on the DS almost nothing changed, in fact it was arguably better than the original, but everyone bitched because they changed the cutscenes to 3D.
5. Gaming media focusing entirely on one company's upcoming game and ignoring everything else. During E3 2005 I saw that goddamn Zelda footage about 200 times.
6. 'Edgy turnover' tactics on game series (Bomberman Act Zero, SBK, NARC)
7. Nintendo's dumb handling of the storage problem. Just ignore piracy/hacking for one second guys, and get that shit together.
8. Smash Bros tourny scene. I'd go on for ages what's wrong with these guys. "ugh metaknight is IMPOSSIBLE to beat man!!!" no he isnt get over it you goddamn babies and learn how to overcome his moves. also shut up about tripping.
9. Awful data load screens. It happens every now and then. I accidently deleted a save on some Sonic game because the menu was so clunky.
10. Sony's marketing strategies for the PS3 ("heh, let's just repeat what we've been saying since 1995, it still works")
Nebagram
12-02-2008, 05:50 AM
9.) fanboys making petitions for the sake of preventing games from being release on a system the don't like.
Whilst I don't find this annoying per se (due to the high entertainment value), I agree it's just about the most retarded thing going.
'Waaaaaaaaah FF13's coming out on the 360, Square Enix betrayed the PS3 so I'm not buying it now (and, erm, will therefore damage the PS3 sales figures further) waaaaaaaaaah'- yes, congratulations, you win 'dickhead of the year'.

yea, let's ask Coke to make a new soda with Pepsi, that will work...
5.The lack of female protagonists, antagonists and standard enemies.
There are plenty, you just didn't look it up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_with_female_protagonists
Now my list:
5. eBay/Paypal F$%^ sellers over but since it is practially a monopoly we have to take it in the butt.
4. Prices of consoles and games these days...seriously, $60 for a new game??
3. Lack of a new SW Battlefront for the next gen systems
2. The fact that you really can't play the Wii without 3 friends over
1. Square-Enix WILL NEVER RELEASE FFXIII!!! ahhh

#10. The hoops I have to jump through to get any sort of flash device/backup device (HDLoader, Superkey, flash carts in general). Look, you can cry piracy all you want, but some of us aren't in it for the ROMs. Some of us like copying our DVD games to a hard drive for... I dunno... faster load times and keeping our originals flawless. Having several games on one cart makes it a lot easier to move 'em about.
#9. "Would you like to reserve something?" NO. I would not.
#8. The overabundance of first-person shooters. The WWII FPSes have been going on longer than the war itself! C'mon, every other release doesn't have to be an FPS... there are other genres out there.
#7. The Xbox 360.
#6. Attempts by game makers to stifle the used game industry. If your product is geared this way, I will not buy it. Period.
#5. Mumorpugers. Games are not a second job. I bow to the epic mount for epic mount, as it is pure epic... but is this really the direction games have taken? I remember when games would kill your sex life, not increase-- oh... wait... forget number 5.
#4. PC Gaming. Let's see... I can pay 200 dollars now, buy a console that will play hundreds (possibly thousands) of games over roughly a decade... or I can buy a video card to add to my uber expensive PC which will let me play games for roughly six months until I need some sort of GFX90000000EX UBERKILL DDR86000 MAX PIPELINES PCIE500 card upgrade... costing me several hundred more dollars. Then I need more RAM... more drive space... you get the point.
#3. The video game violence arguments. Video games are no more responsible for violence than guns are for killing.
#2. DRM. Bite me.
#1. Why is it when a "popular" game is given a release date I can go to the GameShop and buy it THAT FRIGGIN DAY (even at midnight that night!), but the games that *I* prefer arrive two days to a week later EVEN IF I HAVE A GODDAMN RESERVE?
Xander

THAT. So many great exclusive titles on DS and PSP, it's nauseating.

Why wouldn't he use a superior machine with a superior OS? Maybe Linux is fine, but any intelligent, computer-capable person would NOT use windows...
Where to begin...
I hate macs. this is a preference issue, but I got a macbook pro for school and I hate it . alot. I don't see how you can call it a superior machine though: there is no technological difference betwen a mac and any other compuiter: its just costs more and can't be upgraded as much.
However, the use of macs in MGS 4 has some serious issues. Firstly, Mac OS hardware is basicly not extensible. I mean, how was he controlling the MarkIII with a macbook? did he actually open it up and solder some new wi-fi technology into the mobo, just so he could use a mac?
The fact is that when you get to that Otacans level of geek you want as much control as possible, which means a self made OS or a linux based machine. I say windows because at least windows machines are completely upgradeable (and he could theoreticly buy or build a laptop with whatever tech he needed). Why would he put in all of the extra effort needed to make his extra tech run on Mac hardware. He would at the absolute minumum get MacOSX running on his own machine, with custom drivers and such. and with a right click for shit's sake.
However, the real issue is a storytelling one. the macs are superfluous. I really thought that all of the dynamic shots of that logo ruined the scene with the video of Naomi. Oh man, poor Otoc...apple logo...what was going on again?
I can respect liking macs (even though I loathe them on multiple unrelated levels myself). But they defenitely don't belong in MGS. the ipod was clever, but the computers break the mood. They should have been generic.

Further monkeychemist, I realise that Nintendo Microsoft and Sony won't ever get along, I'm just saying that it would be awesome for everyone if they, just sometimes, let down their borders a little. imagine if we could play Ps3 games vs. xbox 360 games. how awesome would that be?. I agree that it won't happen, I'm just saying that it would be awesome. hey, if pepsi and coke want to bring us a new drink I'm all for it.
And I challenge you to build a list of games with male protagonists. it would be 100 times bigger than that one. and most of those were games in which you could be either male or female, which usually means substantially less character development.

Thanks Nintendoeats, I was hoping someone would hijack this into another Mac vs. PC thread. Anyway there's a ton of annoying shit listed here, so I'll probably just duplicate and expand- but here goes.
While it's cool that current gen consoles dicks are getting bigger and harder, I hate the 5 minute fluff time. I miss the days of Tetris- you could throw it in and be playing it in 10 or so seconds. I guess there's not much that can be done about this gripe though, as long as disc based media is used.
Moving parts in consoles. The more moving parts in a console, the more the chances it has to break. My blood boiled when I had to spend money to purchase a 2nd XBOX after breaking 13 months into it's life. It had the fucking Samsung drive. It's sort of rewarding when I find an NES or Genesis crusted in ear wax and mashed carrots, that'll work after a good cleaning.
People that seem to have endless amounts of time to devote to a game. It's really discouraging (for those of us who leave the house on occasion) to get blown away immediately upon entering an online FPS map.
System updates and patches.
I think thats it.

Wow, you thought way too deep into that.
In the game Fear, they use Alienware laptops in an office building. Uh, no way that would happen.
Enjoy the game itself, and that should go back to 1 of my things that is retarded: the use of graphics for something other than enhancing the gameplay, because then people wonder why a Mac is there.

1- Fanboys/Anti-Fanboys. Nintendo Fanboys/Anti-Fanboys in general. You don't have to jump into every thread and try and convince everyone that Wii Music is actually a good game (or even a game) and that the Wii is ZOMG Teh awesome! Quote fests and child like bickering just are not my thing. I just don't get the fanboy. I dread opening some threads on various message boards because after awhile, I can pretty much guess where it is going. Not like they are on the pay roll. I don't get the fanboy. I just want to play good games!
2- Sequels. Some I can stomach. I'd rather see new IP though. Stuff like Fallout 3 is an exception to the rule.
3- Gamestop and it's "Last copy. Open but new" policy. Fuck that.
4- E-bay pricing at local shops and garage sales. Reason I've quit garage sales. Dunno how many times I've heard "I can get twenty for it on E-bay." Then sell it on E-Bay bitch.
5- Limited lives/Continues. Also, harder difficulty equals enemies absorb more shots and kill you in less. A two for one here. Unless it is a title that is supposed to have that arcade feel, I want unlimited lives and continues. Also, I like to play games on harder difficulty levels. Pisses me off to no end when the AI is not better, just cheap-er. This just seems like old game design that needs to catch up with the times.
6-Releasing the same compilations over and over with a few new games thrown in each time. I'm looking at you Namco! I own Pac-Man and Galaga 100 times over.
7- Videogames not getting the respect they deserve. Yep, I'm one of the ones that believes they can be art. Also, It would be nice to see the people whom put the time and effort into making the game get a bit more recognition. Connectivity has helped this a bit. I would have loved to have been able to read about my favorite game maker/music composer and buy other works of theirs the back in the day.
8- The single player/TV experience getting lost in the shuffle. Shitty endings.- Some games seem to be more about the online/multiplayer than the single player experience. Almost as if this feature has become tacked on. I enjoy sitting in front of the TV in the dark by myself with the surround sound turned up immersed in a great story. Also, not being able to play multiplayer with more than one person on one screen. I guess this argument could be switched around depending on personal preference.
9- Retro collecting for profit. Seriously, for the love of the game man! There are better places to invest money.
10. People who still to this day try and argue that Mortal Kombat was/is better than Street Fighter II. Seriously, WTF? SF II has aged so much better. Looked better back then. Is not broken and is probably the most balanced and responsive fighter ever.

My friend, it is a matter of opinion when it comes to games. The point of the matter is that there is alot of stuff in the games graphics-wise that does not make sense. I wish my office building had alienware laptops for us all. That would be cool if they dumped OSX out of their Apples to put Unix on there (not that hard to do), but it is a game.
The reason why I talked about fear, is because I am not a MGS fan. I just don't like the games (even though I own 1-3). I had to put something in that I could relate to. Just because it is a big budget title does not mean that we should ignore every single other game that uses crappy product placement, because in the end, that is all it boils down to, is product placement.
What does this tell us about a game when they get more funding through product placement? Many AAA titles (or big budget or whatever) use crappy product placement, so I see what you are saying, it is very possible that what you think is retarded is very much more broad then specified, which happens (this is a good thread to vent and lose your place).
I do agree with you completely that crappy product placement in games sucks though.

I just went back to FEAR and the alienwares ARE in the first game.
your right, I do have issues with crappy product placement in general, but it ws in MGS where it was really and truly evil. even if you don't like MGS, you must understand that the storytelling is absolutely central to the game. FEAR isn't really ruined by the alienwares (i didn't even notice until I looked!) but the Macs in MGS destroy an absolutely core component of the game.
so basicly I agree with you, but 500 thousand times moreso int he case of MGS.

Blame the console manufacturers. They won't allow AO titles on their consoles for any reason. This is also a double standard since these consoles play DVD movies and you can play XXX movies on them to your heart's (or penis/vagina) content. One of these days, somebody's got to challenge them on this.

Although I currently don't have a hard drive for my PS2 I just recently acquired the latest version of HDLoader (.8c) with FMCB and installed it on one of my Memory Cards (using the USB Drive/Codebreaker method). Is this how you did yours?

Things that don't work out of the box. I don't want firmware updates, game patches, hardware failures as the rule not the exception.
Games should stop trying to be movies. Be games. The best stories have room for the imagination, not every nook and cranny stuffed with exposition and cutscenes.
General lack of retro gaming goodness in the US. It makes me ill to think I'm going to have to buy my stuff off the net instead of in a nice store if I ever move back there (of course, there are some great stores, but as we know there aren't that many and the chains have homogenised the game buying experience for 95% of people)
Region locks! Most frustrating thing ever. I think all the heavy region protection was the first seed if the piracy trend. Someone wants a game that may not be released soon, if ever -- so they mod their console to be able to play it. Hey, while I'm modding this, I might as well just pirate it, too!
Online gaming being dominated by anti-social basement dwellers and 13-year-old boys of all ages. I love online gaming with my consoles, but I hate being harassed by children or smashed by 148th level masters who've put 200 hours into a game. I'm pretty decent with an FPS but I am not that competitive...
Arcades are dead, long live the arcades! I foolishly hope someday there will be a mini-revival in arcades...
ZOMG rare titles that aren't rare at all - FFVII, Radiant Silvergun, etc. Enough of it already.
Inability to find anything on the net anymore using google without digging through piles of reseller links, ebay auctions, pointless blog posts. It's harder and harder to find information on the net in the past year or two, too much noise, not enough data.
I'm sure I got more, but I'll get off my old man soapbox...

1. DRM and the dancing of everyone that doesn't think DRM is an issue.
2. Gamestop and all the fucking stickers and reseals and opening copies and putting them on the shelves. God damn it I like ripping off the plastic, NOT the fucking stickers you cake all over the cases.
3. Fanboys/Fan Haters. Yes I like the 360 everyone knows it, but I'm not going to think you are a retard for playing and enjoying other systems. Well, unless your GrandamChandler
4. Talking of what system is #1. Who gives a shit!?!?! Since when did that matter.
5. Shovelware, though I don't see any fix for this as its always been in gaming. (Friday the 13th on the NES as example)
6. Region Protection. I hate having to buy multiple systems just so I can play different games, something VERY cool about the PS3/DS/PSP.
7. Not enough 2d games. Games like Braid, Pac-Man CE, Galaga Legions, Raiden IV prove that 2d is still fun and can look awesome on the modern system.
8. Shooters, We need more of them.......period. And I'm not talking about FPS, I'm refering to side scrollers.
9. Used Nintendo 1st party titles cost. I'm looking at you Super Mario Galaxy that is available every where but you still have a used price of 40 bucks. This could also go with the "rare" games issue where the game isn't RARE!!! (Final Fantasy VII)
10. The ESRB and other ratings system. I'm so sick of the fact that a kid can watch a movie where a guy gets his head blown off, but the second a video game has a nipple on the screen or a sex act its the end of the fucking world. I have kids, stop trying to protect them from games when the problem is MUCH greater.

Wow, that relates to me playing through MM2 alot. I get a power bar, but if my thumb grazes a spiked ball, I am dead. I can see dying to the death pit, but stupid spiky ball. And why is it that one touch from the mechanical dragon and I am dead? All other bosses can slowly tick my life away, but this dragon can magically kill me if I touch it.

I think most, if not all of these have been mentioned already, but here it is, in no particular order. (These all pertain to consoles)
-Having to patch/install/update my games before I can play them, or having to do it constantly. Get back to game testing, away from patching. I should put the game in the console, turn it on, and it should work, that simple.
-Paying for content already in the game: I have no problem paying for and downloading additional maps (for most games) that did not ship with the game. Paying for content that's already on the disk however, is pure bullshit. As far as I'm concerned, when you buy a game, you buy the right to access ALL the content on the disc.
-Gamestop's "open but still new price" bullshit. How the hell are you going to open a brand-new game and gut the box's contents, then tell me it's still new and charge me full retail price? Go to hell.
-Games that won't let you customize your controls; pure blasphemy. A prime example: Mega Man anniversary collection for the Gamecube. After decades of the left button being the action/shoot button, and the right being the jump, you now want to force me to reverse what has been hard-wired in my brain for over 2 decades... Yeah, right.
-Limited edtion/collector's edtion crap. It's bad enough games cost $60 these days, another ten or twenty for nicer box art and behind the scenes crap does not interest me. You're making enough off me already.
-EA: Go ahead, give me all the flak you can muster, but I hate them with a vengeance. They're the locusts of the gaming industry, buying developers and franchises, then sucking the life out of them. Putting out the same sports game(s) year after year with minimal updates, and charging $60 every time. I hate that people actually buy their shit. I hate that they shun any new ideas or IP's and just pump out yearly sequels. I will give them some credit tho, they have been trying to do some new things only recently, and Dead Space was an excellent new IP and game, but they have a long way to go, especially with their sports franchises.
-The demise of 2D gaming; as already stated, it's sad that 2D games are confined to handhelds these days. I'm not a big fan of handhelds, I want some more 2D console games, games that take advantage of HD resolutions, and have awesome special effects and animation.
-Gamestop's pricing on used games. Let's say Gears of War 2 just came out last week. It's $59.99 new, but they have a used copy for $54.99. Why the hell would I buy the used one? I'd rather spend the extra $5 and get a new one (that is if it's not one of their gutted "new" ones like mentioned earlier). Make the pricing of used games a bit more competitive. I understand the game is in high demand, but a measly $5 savings is not worth it to me. Make it at most $49.99 then I would seriously consider buying it. They'd still be making huge profits since they only paid about $25-$30 for it...
-Lack of originality and yearly sequels. Like my bitching about EA, but they're far from the only ones guilty of this. Do we really need a new Tony Hawk game every year? Not only that, no one is willing to take a risk and do something new and creative, it's depressing.
-Gamefaqs. It's a great resource for gaming help, but it's infested with juveniles who are obsessed with all things Final Fantasy and Nintendo. I don't know why, but it creeps me out.

1. Company loyalist preacher , I know its alright that you enjoy something to a certain extent. But when I get to the point I am having a discussion with you and your just blathering on and on about your favorite product , then your telling me why my product sucks just shut up. People don't need to hear why you think your way is superior , just cause your so emotionally invested in something.
2.Valve's resistance to other platforms other than pc. Some people would love to play their copies of the Orange Box and Left 4 dead and not have to wait so long for Valve to release the new content on the consoles. Whenever Gabe Newall opens his trap these days I can't help but facepalm my face by his small mindedness. If you check the video game headlines he is usually always complaining and really expresses his disdain for other platforms openly. The games Valves develops are brilliant , but Gabe Newall is hilarious cause he holds childish and meaningless grudges against petty things.
3. The feel and need to censorship on Xbox live. To be honest I don't like the idea of censorship when I am on Xbox live ,even it means the alternative is having my ears bleed by the immature user base. You have to put it in context that your on Xbox live and playing a video game where people are always going to act this way , you cant stop people from acting like themselves especially on the internet.
4.Being badgered by a store employee when I want to buy playstation 3 game , typically there is always that one employee that is trying to preach about why Xbox 360 is superior.Personally I like to be spontaneous and maybe pick up a Playstation 3 version of a game despite owning both a Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.However I don't need the lecture every time I desire to make a purchase I don't need to be ''enlightened''.
5. Gabe Newall
6. Forum users who make topics about fanboys getting along with each other. We aren't talking global diversity here , we are talking about video games and video game consoles.Video games = serious business.
7. Quintet hasn't made a game in years , We miss you Quintet!
8. When people misinterpret a game or criticize its style. Its rather Ironic when someone buys a Metal Gear Solid game and then complains about the cutscenes. A game is supposed to be criticized when its clear no effort was put into it or it was poorly made. Not when I don't enjoy the games style hating it on the basis of personal taste .So I wouldn't criticize Metal Gear Solid as inferior because Call of duty 4 is superior .Im not going to make comparisons when it comes to different styles , that would be like me complaining why The novel War of the Worlds isn't like The graphic novel The Watchmen. Two completely different things in a different style there's no real comparison.

Just wanted to add checkpoints at the lack of them in certain games.
I would think nowadays it would be common sense to place checkpoints somewhere in a level or allow the user to save whenever wherever. I can't stand playing all the way through a level or the seventy ninth form of a boss, only to loose and be kicked all the way back to the beginning of the level or boss. This is only amplified if the boos or level is cheap as hell.
Two games that brought this up for me are Ninety-Nine-Nights and Bullet Witch. N3 does not have save points at all throughout the level. Bullet-Witch has an overly long and annoying end boss.

Ahh, things that are retarded about the hobby we all love...where to begin. In no particular order(I will keep the list well rounded). I will try to speard the love to each console and express what pisses me off
Crappy shovelware titles(not the good budget titles)....crap games that are usually only bought by either people who dont know its a crap title or the fact that it advertises something that its not...either way, they usually suck and head for the clearance bin faster than a hollywood star running to a rehab center. These are the games that little bobby gets for xmas only to be not playing momments later.
360 hardware issues...After three years, the system still is having serious problems...Cmon guys do a proper redesign
PS3 and its lack of a price drop/backwards compatibility taken completely out....Ill be nice and put this as one thing....one thing that is gonna really, really hurt is holdiay sales. Seriously the powers that market the system dont know what the hell they are doing.
Nintendo's Wii holiday lineup...third christmas and the linup was pretty weak...hopefully 2009 witll be a little better with some more A+ titles
PSP having only 4 new games for the holidays...cmon that is a weaksauce lineup
PSP 3000 hardware issues....way to screw up any remote chance of making a nice holdiay comeback
Nintendo's Casual game overload....I dont mind playing some casual games...but does every dam game need to be one in the library?
360's $50 a year to play online...after four years of paying, this is getting old. I know that it is the best service, but enough is enough.
Real Time Strategy on consoles...without a keyboard and mouse support....I can think of like 5 on the 360...they are average at best....can someone...send they developers a memo that this genre is not made for limited button layout on a console?

Problems #1, 2, 3...through 10:
I really wish game companies, Sony (for Blu-Ray), cable providers (for HD stuff) etc. would stop treating me like a criminal. When I boot up my Xbox, my 40+ XBLA games should work, regardless of whether I'm signed into Live/signed up for their DRM switchamaroo thingy. When I jack my PS3 into my TV via component, I shouldn't be fucked and have to watch Blu-Ray in 720p or whatever it displays in. I shouldn't have to use HDMI 1.3a/b compliant, as their official name goes cables to carry my signals for HD copy protected content instead of "unprotected" DVI cables. My cable box has a shit ton of outputs, let me get creative and use a DVI --> HDMI cable (since it has no HDMI output) to broadcast my HD content, not shut me down with a blue screen notice that "the content cannot be displayed over the medium." That's horseshit.
I pay for all this shit, and it's honestly way better to just pirate it. When I buy a show off Amazon Video On Demand (a fairly often occurrence), I can play it on my computer and some other shit (Tivo? Don't have one. Not that helpful, guys). When I download it off mininova, I can play it wherever the fuck I want. Well guess what, assholes? That makes me want to torrent it, since I can actually DO WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT with the goddamn content.
Stop DRMing me out the ass and I'll be fine. There are other things that bother me, but this shit just needs to stop. And it will, especially when they drive legit consumers towards downloading and pirating products just so they can actually USE them instead of being restrained.
Also, give me SD slots on the 360, on every PS3 and allow me to use them to store Wii downloads and be able to play them off the card. And let me use my goddamn computer hard drives via USB on all these systems for game saves. $140 for 120 GB? Suck it, Microsoft.
