I'm not into today's games... nothing personal, just a preference for the old 2D stuff I grew up with. Well, I gotta say, GoW is a blast (no pun intended). Right now we're at the part where the birds will peck you to death if you linger in the dark. My bro just moved the spotlight and I did the killing as we slowly took it one step at a time.

I can't say I'd play GoW on my own, but with my bro, it's been a blast. Solid game.

Reminds me of Resident Evil crossing Time Crisis kinda...

Is GoW 2 better?

I beat GOW, but I don't remember that bird part, hmmmm, I think I did a few things wrong in that game (like just ran instead of doing the right thing). That was the first game to interest me enough to play it all way through on 360. I haven't played GOW2 yet, but I was going to say the only other game I've played thru on the 360 is Mirror's Edge, so maybe you'll like that one.

I tend to have trouble with alot of the new games to. I played through GOW1 with my bro and now we're playing through GOW2. Great fun

OMFG. I only own two games for my PS3 (don't have a 360), but one of those two is Mirror's Edge. If you haven't played it yet, it's friggin' fantastic. I'm much more of a fan of the older stuff these days, since the new ones have been kinda crap. However: Mirror's Edge, quick summary: BUY THIS GAME. Swear you'll play it at least twice through.

I really enjoyed the first Gears of War. I bought the 2nd one the day it came out, and gotta say its been almost all i've really played lately. I beat it on Normal and am going back through on Insane. The game overall isn't extremely long, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy it. Grab a few friends and play some Horde for some real fun.

None of the new features really feel forced, or overused. Overall I like the 2nd better than the original.

Gears is awesome with friends. Local multiplayer is still my favorite type of gaming.

I don't know much about Gears, are you guys playing split-screen co-op or over Live?

We're playing over Live.

Like the OP and others, I thought GoW's co-op was fantastic. A friend came over for several nights in a row just to play through it. I played it again by myself, and online for a while, and never had as much fun after that co-op runthrough.

Single player, meh, co-op, great! I've beaten it several times with different friends.

I've started GoW2 but haven't finished yet. I think this weekend I'll be playing some co-op live with my buddy and we'll try to finish it on hardcore. I like it quite a bit. I do wish there were 3 or 4 player co-op as well.

If there was 3 or 4 player co-op...god, this game would be awesome as anything. I play with 2 of my friends and well, all we ever really play is Horde(in the new one of course), I would think that if there was 3-4 player co-op we'd probably be playing that, as it is definitely more fun with another person. I've been trying to go through on Insane on my own as I am growing tired of waiting for one of my friends to help with it, and it is just not as fun as it is when someone else is playing with you.

When you're done with this try out Army of Two. Freaking brilliant coop.

I'm at the same point playing through on the single player and I'm finding the game to be incredibly tedious and uninspired. Wish I could find a co op buddy.

My brother and I are planning on co opping through the second game once I finish this one, so perhaps I'll actually have fun playing that one.

Played it beat it, enjoyed it (except the caves), but it was ultimately disposable.

There are many other co-op games I got much more enjoyment from and still play to this day. Gears just isn't varied enough imo, it's really the same thing over and over and over and over and...yeah, it's good for a play through tho, no denying that.

no way in hell. my best friend and i beat GoW 1 when it came out coop, split screen, and absolutely loved it, we waited impatiently for Army of two, got it on 2nd day after release (found a used copy, bad sign, figure we can beat it in 1 night and return it) and holy crap this game sucks. its uninspired and plain, story is predictable and worthless, everything about this game gets old and boring after 2 hrs. if GoW is your benchmark, this will make you cringe.

as for GoW2, its great, but its a looooot easier than the first game, yet slightly longer (so you die less... making the game move at about the same pace). the last boss is a joke compared to GoW1 and theres a certain tank mission that will have you pulling your hair out in frustration. either way, GoW franchise is one of the absolute best in the all of video gaming. coop is the only way to play it.

might i also recommend castel crashers, as it is a fantastic coop experience, and its old school gameplay should be right up your alley. good luck and game on!

I didn't really dig GoW. I bought GoW2 because the CE was really nice and all of my friends were going to be playing it online. Horde is fantastic, but after we beat it I don't see us going back to it again. The single player is a little better, but I lost interest rather quickly.

Overall if you were a fan of GoW you'll love GoW2. I just don't really enjoy the camera and the controls seem to battle me more than they should.

Dude you didn't like Army of Two? We played through that on the hardest difficulty and had a blast doing so. Did you at least make it a few missions in?

Then again I really haven't thought too highly of GoW myself other than as a decent co-op game. Which we should probably finish soon, come to think of it.
