Fun little game/test:
http://www.sporcle.com/games/videogame_systems.php
I did pretty good, 41 without cheating and looking anything up
*******SPOILER ALERT********
It's fun, but has flaws - SMS 2 should not be on the list (unless you get to include Genesis 2 & 3, SNES 2, etc.), or anything that plays the same cartridges/CD's as something else (GBC, Turbo Express, Nomad).

50 here, and yes, there are some serious inconsistencies on the list. Still fun though. :-)

43 out of 68 here. I'm not that knowledgeable on systems before I was born. :p
It was fun to try out. Surprised with some answers he put up there, especially ones most gamers wouldn't consider as console, well not at first glance.

Yeah, that was pretty fun. :) I got 44. I agree with your complaints, though. I didn't get the Intellivision II or Master System II, since I wasn't thinking of revisions (especially when it didn't have stuff like Game Boy Pocket, which I tried). I didn't think of the Nomad or TurboExpress either since they don't play original games. I don't think those Flashback things and Game & Watches should count either. I did think of the GP32 and GP2X, but since when did those come out in America? I didn't even bother entering those. I thought those were only made in Korea? I did get the Odyssey and the Odyssey^2, but I have no clue what those 100, 200, 400 versions are.
My most shameful omission is that I completely forgot the Jaguar. :P

I also got 44. This test is really stupid.
Why include Sega Master System 2 but not NES 2, PS One or PS Two? Gameboy Pocket wasn't there? really?
Parts of it just didn't work. I put in "Game & Watch" and it didn't trigger "Nintendo Game & Watch".
"Fairchild" didn't trigger "Fairchild Channel F" (I couldn't remember the rest), but Odyssey triggered Magnavox Odyssey.
Anyway, it's kind of fun and with some improvement could be a great project.

43/68. Arg, I can't believe I forgot about the Vectrex. Somewhat frustrating that the test wouldn't accept "Intellivision 2" as an answer, but something as vague as "Atari" was good enough to win a point for "Atari (PONG)". ..and really, no 32X or TurboGrafx-CD?

I got a 47 but could have damn near aced it but its way picky Intellivision 2 versus intellivsion II argh!

Lame. How do they include Watara Supervision but then miss Pippen and Playdia? I lost time because I kept trying to type different variations of systems that were excluded for no reason -- ie, "amiga cdtv / commodore cdtv / cdtv", "halcyon / rdi halcyon / halcyon interactive", "r-zone / tiger r-zone / tiger rzone", etc.

A lowly, pathetic 36 with no cheating and such. But the consoles I care about are mostly 1983 forward, since that's when the Famicom came out. It's still older than I am :P

I got 50 and should have had a few more but the stupid thing wouldn't except some of my answers (though I'm still not sure why). Also, forgot some of the multi-media crap from the mid-90s.

43, but should have been 46 or 47, since I entered some that weren't on the list, but should have been, such as Sega CD and Adventurevision.
I wish I knew variations and revisions would have been on there ahead of time, since I wasted a lot of time figuring that out.
Also, I entered atari 7800, atari 5200, and atari 2600 THREE TIMES EACH before they took. That had me annoyed.

42 here, I forgot the names of all the recent junk like the gizmondo, hyperscan, tapwave etc. I also completely forgot about the Odyssey. Calling some of those including the R-zone a game system is really pushing it. No jaguar cd, c'mon!

Yes. No Adventurevision, Creativision, RCA Studio II for three to begin with.

44 here... I was a little shocked by the multiples, yeah... but man, I kept trying to get the Fairchild and couldn't remember it was called the "Channel F" by Fairchild. d'oh.
And the multiple Odysseys messed me up, and it's Mega Duck not Game Duck. oops. Still, not a bad showing :/

47. Odd that Sega CD and 32X aren't on there. I put 'Sega CD' and it popped up as the Sega CDX.

That's exactly what happened to me. I got 47, too. Some of the more "fringe" ones got me. I remembered the R-Zone and Gizmondo but forgot about the Zodiac and Game.com.

42. The only one I missed that surprised me was the Game Boy Color.
Just about everything else I'd never heard of until I saw the name. A couple 'oh yeah, that thing' systems, but I never would have guessed them if you gave me days to take the test.

42. I forgot several consoles I own. I even forgot the damn PS2 and PSP. I must be drunk (oh wait, I am).
I didn't think either the GP32 or GP2X were "released" in the US. I thought they were both just imported.

Exactly. Once it accepted those two, I started trying things like Bandai's Wonderswan, Pippin and Playdia to no avail.
However, respect to the chap that took his own time and effort to create this little quiz. If anyone here with more knowledge wants to expand on the concept and create a more accurate version, then by all means go for it and let us all know when it's done....

I got a 44, nothing really jumped out at me that I said "Man, I forgot THAT?!?!?" When I thought there were no import consoles like Wonderswan, why would I even consider putting in the GP32? I also had no idea there were so many Odyssey consoles.

I call BS. They include the Telstar but not the APF Consoles? What about the various Odyssey revisions but don't include the Gameboy Pocket or the DS Light? The Nuon and the 32X were left off completely? They include the CDX but not the X'Eye? Also, the GP2X, GP32, and the Amiga CD32 did not come out in the US. Strange list.
I went 53/68 though. Fairchild didn't work, but "Channel F" did. And Emerson didn't work but "Arcadia" did.

I got 50, but that list is totally arbitrary and inconsistant. It says right at the top that they weren't including single game systems, but there's like 10 single game systems on the list. Several of those systems weren't even released in the US (like the PV-1000), I wonder if he was just trying to make sure nobody gets a perfect score. And where's the RCA Studio II?

I got 45. Bally Astrocade being the most obscure. Scored in the 3.8% range. Pretty slick. :)
Forgot about the Atari Flashbacks... sad since I own them. :p
I found Nuon, Gameboy Pocket and 32x missing also Sega CD. It is a rather funny list. The statistical lists after you take it make up for the oversights though.

The CD32 came out in the US, there's a NTSC version.
I got 45. A lot of the systems I didn't get were in contrary to the "rules" stated on the top of the page though, that's kind of crappy.
I got a 46. I would have got higher, but it wouldn't let me put in a few systems, like the Entex Adventurevision, Atari XE GS, Turbo Grafx CD-ROM, Lynx II, and RCA Studio II. What gives with that?
Edit: They didn't list Action Max or the V-Smile either.

From Wikipedia (Yeah, I know)
The Amiga CD32 was the first 32-bit CD-ROM based video game console released in western Europe and Canada.
The CD32 was released in Canada and was planned for release in the United States. However, a deadline was reached for Commodore to pay a patent royalty to Cad Track for their use of their XOR patent. [1] A federal judge ordered an injunction against Commodore preventing them from importing anything into the United States. Commodore had built up CD32 inventory in their Philippine manufacturing facility for the United States launch, but, being unable to sell the consoles, they remained in the Philippines until the debts owed to the owners of the facility were settled. Commodore declared bankruptcy shortly afterwards, and the CD32 was never officially sold in the United States.[2] However, imported models did come over the border from Canada, and many stores in the United States (primarily mail-order stores) imported units for domestic sale. During the long bankruptcy proceedings, Commodore UK also provided some hardware components and software for the American market, including production of the MPEG Video Module that was not officially released by Commodore International.
To the best of my knowledge, the CD32 did not come out in the United States.
I got 43. I mainly forgot the successive Odysseys and the lesser handhelds, such as the R-Zone and the Gizmondo.
Any list like this is going to spark comments from the peanut gallery, obviously, but the SMS2 was unfair if the dogbone NES and others aren't included. The GamePark was an odd choice, given the absence of the WonderSwan. The Pippin was missing, as mentioned, and it seemed like "kiddy" hardware was not included such as the Pico or the LeapFrog (and similar) cart-based consoles.
Still a fun little brain exercise, though :)

Yeah, near the end when I couldn't think of any more I started putting in things like Pico and Leapster to no avail. There definitely is something arbitrary about the list.

I think it's designed to make you feel stupid... or at least more stupid than you actually are on the subject. Most takers got what 15-24 on the list? And I feel like I screwed up by getting 45? Isn't that odd?

I had 10 minutes left and quit with 26 posted. I tried posting all of the MSX series which didn't work, the GP32, GP2X, and the Pandora, so I just quit without attempting anything else.
There were also alot that I didn't attempt like the Lynx, Jaguar, PCE, PCE CD, Neo Geo CD, etc. So I know I would have been atleast 35 if I did finish and gave it some thought. I'm just too lazy, plus I'm at work.

I got 39. I can't believe I forgot gameboy color and it wouldn't accept my spelling of turbo grafix 16(grrrrrrrr). I never knew there were that many Odyssey's, but despite being before my time I atleast got the first and second Odyssey correct. Zodiac was the only obscure handheld that I could remember from the last 10 years, the rest I forgot.
All in all not a bad test but I agree with the people that said there were tons of inconsistences.

50 points
No WonderSwan, Sega 32X, Sega CD, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, DS Lite, Lynx II, Pico, etc...
but the Neo Geo CD, Master System II, Intellivision II, Atari Flashback, Atari Flashback II, and Nintendo Game & Watch count? Come on.
Aussie2B
12-03-2008, 01:32 PM
Why shouldn't the Neo Geo CD count? o_O It's not an add-on nor revision; it's its own unique system, and it came out in the US. It's games are different from their Neo Geo counterparts, and some didn't appear on any other platform at all. Seems to have all the qualifying factors to me.
I got up to 42 before i stopped the clock. I didn't like the list and thought certain systems don't belong while others, like Sega CD, should.

53 of 69 here, but probably would have been 52 if I hadn't seen the SMS2 spoiler.
PV-1000? What the hell? Japan only, so far as I know! And yeah, really uneven with some... No Studio II or APF? Geez...

Since you got a 52, I am very proud of my 46. :) I was suprised at the omission of the Studio II, as well as the Adventurevision. How can anyone leave out the Holy Grail of systems? You're the expert Russ, it is the most sought after/expensive system ever, right?

its dumb to have the CDX but not hte x'eye. and no neo geo pocket (just color?!)
and, WTF is the megaduck and why teh HELL are the flashbacks listed as consoles?!!??!
btw -- "game and watch" triggers it
still, fun game, thanks
Just remembered, they didn't include the Halcyon either. If anything is rarer and more coveted than the Adventurevision, this is it!

Kind of a weird quiz. They left off the 32X (a system with its own games), put on the Master System II (a re-released system with no new games) but left off Genesis 2 and 3.
I also wouldn't call the Atari Flashback releases full-fledged consoles.
Still fun, though. Nice find.
