Edit:
I found another Saturn today, deck only. It's a US Model 2 and it was cheap, so I brought it home and plugged it in - it worked fine... for a couple of minutes. After a while it just shut itself off.
I double checked all connections and everything worked fine, and then it just stopped working again. It turns on, but I get no video or audio, and the CD doesn't spin. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm using a dollar store power cable, did I just fry the system by plugging it in the wrong way? D:

I never owned a Saturn back in the day, but I loved to play it whenever I was at my old rental place. It's a neat system. Judging from the shape of the system and the fact that the bios boots up in Japanese mode, I'm pretty sure this is a Japanese Model 1 Saturn. Anyway. The system seems to be in fine shape, so I'd like to do two things:
One, install a region switch mod to switch between US and JP mode;
Two, install a modchip that would allow me to boot backups.
The former because it would allow me to get games from both systems and such. The latter because it would help me with MobyGames stuff - I can download games and play them on the system, then use this to contribute information to the site. It's my main hobby, so.
How difficult is it to do both things to my system? I saw modchips for Model 2s around the internet, but nothing for Model 1 systems. I'm pretty sure this isn't against the rules, but I dunno. :\
