I was gonna call the thread What games does your girlfriend like to play? but...
Anyway I was thinking about this today. My girlfriend wont leave my Dreamcast alone. Every time she's here she's playing Bust A Move 4. Not a bad thing at all.;) In the past she realy liked Metroid Prime 3(she beat it). We're playing Lego Batman together now. Lego Star Wars, Bolder Dash(Nes), Super Mario Sun Shine(she beat), Mario Galaxy, and Spyro. She says she can beat Mario 3 but I don't believe her. Games she doesn't like Resident Evil and Animal Crossing.? and alot of the older stuff. I have another friend and she'll come over and play fighting games. She likes talking trash when she can beat me. So I guess my girlfriend like platformers and newer games.
Thanx RASK1904:rockets:

My brother whom doesn't really play games at all saw me playing Call of Duty: World at War, said it looks pretty cool and hasn't stopped playing the game since. Whenever he would play games they would either be racing games or the Sims but perhaps he has fallen in love with the shooter genre all of a sudden and I'll have a co-op partner for Resident Evil 5. ;)

My brother kind of likes the Crash Bandicoot games. And when I took my PS2 up to his place a couple of times, we played some MLB Power Pros which he kind of liked.

Haha, my girlfriend plays as much games as I do. ^_^

As far as games I can get my NON-gamer friends to play, though, that would have to be Wii Sports. It's silly, but for some reason, I've never met anyone who doesn't like it.

My sister has never played games at all, either, but she just goes nuts over "Urbz: Sims in the City."

A very good friend of mine, who I would by no means consider a gamer, has a weakness for some NES classics, namely Jackal, 1943 and Castlevania III. He also enjoys the Gran Turismo games, but then, he is a car guy.

My wife, besides liking games like Ms. Pac-Man and Tetris, got hooked on R-Type and U.N. Squadron a while ago thanks to me. As it turns out, she's also a Streets of Rage fan from way back.

My female downstairs neighbor is absolutely addicted to Bioshock and Hexic HD. I have two other female friends who come over every Tuesday night and want to play Timesplitters 3 and Halo 2. My neighbor, however, absolutely DETESTS these two games. Girls=confusing as ever.

The ladies love the 2600. Co-op Space Invaders has got them going on more than one occasion, if you get my drift.

They really like to play with a joystick of another kind, if you follow me.

Some definite co-op play goes down later that night, if you know what I'm saying.

My 2600 isn't the only Heavy Sixer in the room getting workout, if you catch what I mean.

... say no more ...
Does anybody have any idea what he is talking about?!?

My wife's a casual gamer. DDR, Animal Crossing, anything Mario or Final Fantasy. She actually prefers to watch me play games than play herself. She'll watch me play just about anything.

I have a very good friend of mine who comes over to play:

Baseball Stars 2 on the Neo Geo AES. Then when SNK collection came out for PS2, I told him to pick it up (14.99 at Game crazy at the time) so he could practice. I picked it up for myself too.

Well, on this collection, Neo Turf Masters (golf) is on there and now all we do is play match game every week.

I have another good friend of mine, he enjoys Grand Theft Autos and Gran Turismo. He already say that when GT5 come out, he WILL get a PS3. We will play this game for many days straight and talk on telephone for hours talking about tricks and strategies. We are car guys so that is part of the appeal for us too.

And my final non gaming friend, we will play Nintendo Wii - Wii Sports, Carinval Games, and Wii Play.

My wife, well, she plays many games just as I do. Video games is a family interest in my home.

Everyone loves Puzzle Bobble and Spin Masters and I usually leave them on when people are over.
Neo Bomberman, Super Dodgeball, Aero Fighters, Neo Turfmasters, Shock Troopers, Blazing Star and Sengoku 3 will get some play if they happen to be in the cab.

Most of my friends don't give a rats ass about my old consoles. The gf will play some NES SMB games and Dr. Mario now and then, thats about it.

I hear ya TurboGenesis, just grab some stools and beers, relax and play 18.
My bud Mike is in his mid 50's and he is pretty damn good, he can finish most
courses at -12 to -14.

When I was younger, my stepdad liked to play Tetris and Galaga on the NES. It was actually the only two games he'd play.

An aunt of mine would only play Tetris. My uncle plays Backgammon and Poker on pogo.com(it's not a video game, but it is a flash version of those games you play against other people.) My cousin used to play games but doesn't anymore, though there are times he'll rarely play the Settlers games, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Age of Mythology.

My father used to play Adventure and other text-based games, I think he might have played Zork but he doesn't really remember.

My one friend claims he doesn't play videogames, which is kind of weird as we used to play all the time when we were younger (N64 mostly), but I got him to sit down with Typing of the Dead and he thought it was hilarious, asking for his own copy.

My girlfriend has pretty good taste, she just got into ActRaiser for the SNES, and has been a big pokemon fan (but only of the red/blue genre...a traditionalist like myself and others). She played Deus Ex, even showing me something I had never tried (going into the interrogation with Simons), but she usually doesn't finish games (she wants to borrow Symphony of the Night without finishing FF7. :?)

The one thing I'm semi-proud of is that both she and a male friend of mine like to watch me play certain videogames. For my friend, my frustrations are usually entertaining and for the girlfriend, she enjoys watching a good story...which is kinda shitty as nowadays I'm playing mainly RPGs and Fighting Games; RPGs turn into a day-job of grinding for me ('cept for Mario RPG, which we've played together several times), and fighting games are just...fighting games.

So I try to mix it up a bit to make everyone happy because as a gamer I just don't stop gaming, unless a good movie is on or I physically can't play games (i.e. I'm operating heavy machinery)...On that note I'm going to meet a friend downstairs to play Mario Party (the first one).

Well Tetris is obvious but I also got some non-gaming friends to give Bust -A-Groove a try simply because they liked dancing. Too bad their coordination didn't translate too well in the video game worldLOL

My non-gaming friends will usually do Mario Party (several of the 64 titles) and Mario Tennis (n64). Otherwise, all of my friends are into sports titles of leagues that they follow (NBA 2K?, Madden, MLB: The Show etc.) on the newer consoles. Also we get down on Kirby's Avalanche and Kirby's Dreamcourse (both SNES) casually.

If I was good at Guitar Hero then I'd probably play that the majority of the time because it's really fun. I suck at Guitar Hero though. Never owned it, but I can't get past Medium as going from Medium to Hard is hard as hell.

Guitar Hero 3 is also the only one I've played and I can atleast finish every Medium song except Through the Fire and the Flames.

My friend's wife is a non-gamer but she'll occasionally play Bejeweled on her husband's XB360. I brought over a bunch of backwards compatible Xbox games one day and one of them was Ultra Bust-A-Move. She really enjoyed that one to the point where they borrowed my copy till her hubby was able to track down a copy of the game for themselves. :D

I remember having a conversation with a friend at work a few years back who is a non-gamer and she talked about how her family had a NES when she was younger and some of the games they played. A particular favorite of hers was Mickey Mouscapades. :)

I had a manager at Gamestop for a few years who was a non-gamer. It never made much sense to me how he lasted as long as he did and didn't play any games of any kind. @_@

My Fiancee' sort of is a gamer...she's played since she was a little kid, but now she just sort of seems to play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Zelda: Twilight Princess over and over and over. She's for sure cleared 100% on those two multiple times. She also beat the fuck out of Heavenly Sword, and seems to think that game is the best thing since sliced bread.

She also really enjoyed Donkey Kong Country, Mario Bros., and seemed to like watching Bioshock.

She expressed interest in God of War after hearing about the similarity to Heavenly Sword, so I bought her GoW 1 and 2. They've sat on the coffee table, shrinkwrapped for a month. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at them myself, but they're her present. She needs to open them first.

PC solitaire. Know a whole lot of folks, Larry the Cable Guy included, who ended up buying themselves a $1000 deck of cards.

My non gamer friends love Smash Bros. and Soul Calibur. I can't get by being at home for more than 10 minutes without them asking to play Soul Calibur. Wii fit and sports have been a hit as well. Some do like older games like Sonic and Mario but not too many though. Guitar Hero is loved by some, some not so much.

Here's hoping for a gamer boyfriend.

I got an Amiga 500 for xmas when I was about 12, and my mother, who had never played a video game before or since, got hooked on Arkanoid. Similarly, my oldest brother, who hadn't played games for years started playing a golf game called Mean 18.

If anyone ever asks me to play Wii Tennis again I'll scream.

If I ever have to deal with someone's fascination with Wii Sports Boxing again, I'll scream.

Warning, rant ahead:

I have friends who are older (late 30s and early 40s) who still profess amazement at Wii Yoga. Honestly, I don't get why you would want to simulate these things on your fucking Wii and not just go to the gym. I spend a lot of time in front of the TV but even I realize I have to get off my ass and experience daily life every once in awhile.

I had "friends" growing up who were not really gamers the way think of gamers here, but they were into sports to an unhealthy degree. (To this day they don't own one piece of clothing that doesn't have some Seahawks logo on it or something, and they're 30) who spent tons of money gathering sports games for all the 16-bit consoles. I really didn't get it. They had, like, 30 football games. And really, with that genre every game is essentially identical on some level (note I said "on some level") because they have to pertain to the rules of the sport they are based on. It's not like the similarities between Mario and Sonic. At their core, these sports games are all fundamentally identical.

Then again, everybody's got their thing, and even I compare different console versions of the same game out of interest. I guess my thinking was always "gee, if you need to be involved in sports/skateboarding/Gran Turismo-ing bad enough to spend all this money simulating it, why don't you just go out and do it?"

/End rant. Back on topic.

Simple party games (i.e. 4-player fests like Bomberman) and puzzle games (i.e. Puzzle Fighter, Bust-A-Move) are always guaranteed hits with my non-gamer buddies. They're simple to understand and get into, and competitive.

Fighting games never go well with non-gamers because they don't know any of the special moves. Beat 'em ups are fine though, it's quite fun working your way through one with a non gamer bud. Just tell 'em to punch anything that moves!

From time to time my girlfriend spends a couple of hours playing Professor Layton or Cooking Mama on the DS or Guitar Hero III on the Wii.

I do remember, though, that my mom was crazy about Oil's Well and Kikstart on the Commodore 64 when I was a kid. We played those damn games for hours on end. I kind of miss those days.. Now she plays Bowling Buddies on Facebook instead LOL

The problem with fighting games is that people seem to think that special moves are everything you need to know.
Whenever I introduce someone to 2D fighters, I always get frustrated because all they want to know is how to throw fireballs. They don't seem to understand that it's more important to know how to block, throw, 2in1, etc.
3D fighters are a much easier sell, though, because of the amount of universal techniques and the generally masher-friendly gameplay. Anyone can have fun with DOA once they understand how to counter, and Soul Calibur practically favors random mashing over mid-level skill.

Thats why smash bros is so great. Its easy to learn, and its obvious that each move is intended for certain situations. I brought it to school and I had people playing acceptably in 15 minutes. great game.
