As per the topic, can you use American XBLA/Wii point cards on a Canadian xbox 360?

No, you can't. I have an American registered console and I can't use Canadian points on it, though I live in Canada :(

No, you can't.

And they won't refund them to you or transfer them in any way to your console.

I wasted $20 on one in the US this summer. The MS support line told me to flip the card on ebay.

Hmmm... damnit.

Well, can I switch the region of my console from Canada to the USA?

While I'm not sure about the 360, you CAN switch the region for the Wii, but it still won't matter. To connect to a regions version, you have to physically be in that region.

The only way to flip your console from Canada to the US is to create a new username for Live and mark it as a US one. You cannot change your current handle to US if it's registered Canadian.

I tried this because I linked my Xbox in Canada to my Hotmail account and it still had my old US info on it...and it permanently linked my username to a US registration. This was well after I'd had my Xbox for a while and I wasn't about to give up my handle. There's no way around it at all. You can always sell the code to someone like me who has a US registered Xbox in Canada or like someone said, on eBay or something.

What if there was someone in the USA that you trusted (hard to believe... but let's pretend), could you send them the code and get them to buy the games and gift them to you?

first of all, most people have friends they trust, sorry you do not.

secondly, no, you cannot.

sell the damn code and get a new one. jeez.

whoa whoa whoa calm down a minute, it was just a joke.

... sensitive ...

Anyway, the only reason I'd rather use the USA one is that its a 1600 point card and we only get 1400 point cards here and they're slightly more expensive.

Sell the card and buy points on XBLA, you'll have a better range of points that way ($20 + $50).

Hey, that's not nice to folks in the US. Just cuz we all want to bomb Canada doesn't mean we are all untrustworthy.

my friend has a Japanese 360 tag that he signs on as every once in awhile. He uses it to download demos for games exclusive to Japan.

Based on that, try making a US tag and see if you can put those points on.

this could actually work. since any gamertag can play any game associated with said console.

I think you should play Sega Saturn imports instead.

This is what I would do.

Make a silver US account with a US address. You can use any address and phone number to do it.

Then load the points on that account. Download the games that you want.

As long as the games you downloaded are on the console you have (barring RRoD) you can just play them with your main account. If you have the RRoD or some other problem you can still play them, you just have to be signed in with both accounts.

Thats how I'm able to get Japanese and Mexican versions of the XBLA games, as well as region specific gamerpics (though that doesnt matter anymore).

What about those freebie XBLA codes like Uno and Joust? Are those region specific too or can someone from the US use a code that someone from Canada originally received?
