Anybody planning on picking this up when it comes out in six months? I hear tell you'll be able to buy it either with the controller or without. It's looking a little rough at this point, but here's some screenshots at ign: Click Me (http://mediaviewer.ign.com/ignMediaPage.jsp?channel_id=73&object_id=566714&adtag=network=ign&site=xbox&pagetype=medialist&page_title=Steel+Battalion%3A+Line+of+Contact)
By the way, I just passed the 40 hour mark on SB according to my Xbox.

My guesses would be Murder, Death, Kill, and Homicide.

I've read that it'll have team deathmatch with five players on each team, as well as some other ill-defined objective-based modes.
And duck-duck-goose.

I tried this game out at E3, and it seems fine. It was running on a widescreen tv at (I suspect) 1080i, so it was a little chunky, but it looked great, with all the same special effects I have come to expect from the series.

I'm going to pick it up..(just the game)
Honestly though, I don't know anything about it yet..But if it's anything new for Steel Battalion..I want it..
I need to read up on it..
I payed a lot of money for the two that I have..So I'm hoping that they make something else for this cool ass controller..
I have yet to sign up to XBox live and PS2online..the set-up kits are still sitting on my shelf.. :/
I don't have the time..to play online...

Steel Battalion 2 XBX - Looking good as always. I'm a little worried though, I don't know if I'm going to fit in with all the rich people I'll be playing against, being a poor college student with messed up financial priorities and all.
I'm outta school, but with all the loans I'm paying, I sure don't feel rich.
But you raise a good point. I'm sure that a sizable portion of the players will be dedicated robot-worshippers. But as for the rest, I'm wondering whether it will be mostly wealthy adults or their spoiled children playing. But I see some potential for hilarity here. You can be the crazy shouting guy:
<cannon shell whistles past>
<b000m!>
Nate (using "Jerky Boys" voice): "Gotchyer 401(k)-SB right here, beeeyotch!!1!"
<plasma torch screech>
Nate: "TAAAXXXX CUUUUUT!!1!"
<Richie Rich's VT explodes>
@_@ @_@ @_@
Me, I'm gonna have to work on my Nelson "HA-HA" and fake British accent, like Cameron in Ferris Beuhler's Day Off.

I'm totally buying it, but mainly because the release volume will be so low.
And add that to the fact that I've played a total of about 15 minutes of the game. I couldn't figure out the objectives. I was seriously confused, and those mechs move mighty slow. I have to admit that the fast action of Mechwarrior worked better for me, although further on through the game it sucked to hack through 10 minutes of a level only to die and have to repeat it.

The objectives for the first three missions (numbered 0, 1, and 2) are "blow up all the mean robots". In the fourth (mission 3) it's "get to the back of the map" and in the fifth (mission 4) it's "sink the battleship".
This web site has some nice walkthroughs for the first ten missions if you're having any trouble: http://members.shaw.ca/tekki/index.html
Also, the game moves slow and the shots move slow at first so that the beginner's slow maggot brain has a chance to avoid getting spread on the pavement. My brother-in-law tried it for the first time a couple of days ago, and each time after he would lock onto the enemy, he would confuse his "fire" and "lock-on buttons" and end up (1) losing the lock, (2) firing his cannon at the hangar ceiling, and (3) getting blown up by the mean robots.
Things speed up later, although it never quite gets to the level of Virtual On...
Plus, if you examine the nine green buttons on the controller center block, you will notice the one in the center is marked "override", which you can interpret as "nitrous". If you can sink the battleship in mission 4 (heh, heh), you get access to the sexy new second generation VTs that can actually use the override. That's when the fun really starts.
Ubersaurus, you will be "crushedasaurus" by the end of the year.
Achika, yer goin' down, too.[/trashtalk]

This is the code I use..It allows you to play the game in free mission mode.
This makes the game so much better because now you can use the faster stronger full screened VT's in 98% of the missions..but only in free mission mode.
You still can play the missions through..this just allows you to see all the missions..practice them and then try to go through the mission mode..
Using the required VT to practice.
Or..if you are stuck on a mission like the BattleShip you can go through that mission and sink that sucker with a better VT..just for the satisfaction of seeing it sink..(it still is hard though)..
Or you can play the other levels..to check them out..Some of them are bad ass..
To really go through this game correctly you still have to play it through mission mode to see the story ..
Using this code does not give you any Cheats to use..so you still are going to be playing the game with the same difficulty..
Even using the better VT's I find some of the missions are still very hard..
but I can do them over and over now without restarting from the begining.
Seriously for me this code has made the game so much better..I enjoy it more..
Once you put this code in it stays in..and is an option in the menu.
I included a picture of the numbers I added to one of my controllers..(from VCR tapes).
This made putting in the code very easy...I couldn't get it to work the first time I tried it.
.................................................. .................................................. .......
code..
This code has been tested to work on both SB and Tekki, if it doesnft work try again.
At the title screen, move the tuner to the following positions and keep it there for one second each position.
1-9-7-9-0-9-0-6
The numbers above are the positions, like a clock, except this clock starts on the right where the printed numbers start.
(i.e. 9 o'clock on a normal clock is 0 in the code.
12 o'clock on a normal clock is 4 in the code.
Etc.)
When you complete the code you will hear a sound effect then you will be able to use all VT's and play any mission on any difficulty in free mission mode.

There is actually a way to pause the game when you are on a mission. All you need to do is unplug the Steel Battalion Controller and the game will pause and have a warning notice saying that the controller is disconnected. To unpause, plug the Steel Battalion Controller back in the first port and press the Start button to resume the game.

While your posting of the dial code and picture is a great public service, VGD, I'm gonna stubbornly do this game the hard way. Losing two pilots to the battleship has made me ornery. I'm only on mission 9 right now, but I like to go back sometimes and see if I can sink the battleship with a Falchion (no, I can't).

"Losing two pilots to the battleship has made me ornery"
:) It made me very ornery..I was ready to box the controller back up..
And that's a first for me..I'm pretty patient with games.

Yeah, and mission 7 made me pretty salty. But after typing in yesterday's post I fired up free mission and sank the battleship with a falchion (normal difficulty). So I guess things are coming along.
Do you guys play Steel Battalion with shoes on, or without? I prefer no shoes, myself.

I play with shoes on...better grip..we'll for me..
My feet kept slipping off the pedals with only socks on..and one day I got a cramp in my foot while playing in socks..
I was trying too hard to keep my feet on the pedals with the socks on..
I wouldn't play bare footed in fear that I might get pinched by the pedals..that would really hurt.
I did it once and man did it hurt..
I even play with shoes when I use the Logitech car racing steering wheel..

Maybe I missed this info..but can anyone tell me if this game will be "linkable"..?

From what I read somewhere (about what was shown at E3), it appears that right now the plan is to only have Xbox Live connectivity, and not to have link or LAN connectivity. But who knows? Release is six months away, so I suppose that could change.

The E3 demo of SB:LoC was via LAN, not Live, according to the Capcom peeps I asked at the show.

Hey, let us know how it goes when you get to Mission 4! Heh, heh. :devilish:
The basic story is that the guy is an acquaintance of mine and friend of bizounce...I was over there one day, saw he had the game, and he said that he hated it and was looking to get rid of it. I asked him how much, and he said 100 bucks sounds good, and I told him I'd buy it. Today I finally got it, but I haven't been able to play it-he forgot the supplementary manual on how to use the controller, said he'd drop it off later tonight.
I don't like that foreboding comment on mission 4 O_O
