View Full Version : Zelda Hacks advice
I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice
on any of the popular Zelda Hacks.
Outland
Ganon's revenge
fall of the moon.
I found the original Zelda to be a little too difficult
for me. I was hoping one of these a a little easier.
any advice?

I've been wondering how these are myself as i always see repros of them but don't want to shell out a bunch of cash and wind up with a bunch of crappy repros.

I have all three, but I've only played through the first quest of Zelda Outlands
Other than a few little bugs, the game is excellent, and hard. Harder than the first Zelda.
I'm guessing the other two are just as hard, if not harder. Taking a break before I jump into one of them.

I'd like to know, also. I'd like to pick one up but I'm not sure which would be the best. Was Outlands made first? That's the one I hear the most about.

Does anyone bother with Zelda Classic anymore? I thought some folks were doing some nifty stuff with that. Perhaps I was mistaken.

There were a lot of nifty things the last I looked at it....
Now that we have BS Zelda Broadcast videos, I ponder going to them and seeing if that will inspire a new BS Zelda-type project...

kinda off topic, but are there any zelda hacks/mods/game transformers for the SNES or gameboy zeldas?
i really loath the NES zelda, but would loooooove another snes adventure!

There's a couple, apparently. I have no idea if they're much good, though.

Cool!! I've never seen these. Do they play as well as the real thing? Are they "official" quality?

Yeah, i would prefer a SNES version too.
The reason i asked about the NES games is because they are
available in cartridge form and as far as i can tell the SNES hacks
are only for use on computer with emulators.

My copy of Zelda 2 - The Shadow of Link arrived yesterday
This makes the original Zelda 2 look like a cakewalk, though you do have a bunch of extra lives to start out each time

I tried that one for a bit, and it's not bad. It's ridiculously hard though, so I recommend playing through the original before you start if you haven't played it in a while.
To give an idea of the difficulty: The first 45 min or so you have to get through a whole dungeon full of enemies and traps without even a sword. After getting through that you won't know where to go, every path seems blocked and there's no "hub" part to heal up and get tips.
so it will test both patience and skll, maybe you'll love it but I gave up pretty soon.
I hope the creators can re-envision those 8-bit hacks for the snes or gameboy Zelda because the 8-bit game engines are crap in comparison.

When I read the title I automatically thought of....
about 7years ago my older cousin was looking for his "copy of zelda" as he had beaten the game in such a way that made his game worth 300$.... but my little cousins deleted his save lol

huh?
The Satellaview was not even around during the Famicom era. If that's what you were referring to, you're probably confused.

Outlands IIRC is a fan-produced hack. The BS Zeldas are not related to it.

he's right dude, you're mistaken on this one.
Also, how can a Zelda save file make a cart worth $300?

Anyways, to anyone curious about Ganon's Revenge
Not a whole lot is changed in the first quest from the original Zelda, after a few hours of playing, I've already beaten level five and have all the items you can get in the overworld. Nowhere near as in depth a hack as Outlands. Mostly just paths to places and items have changed, with a few exceptions.
