Only two more days to go! Then I'll finally be able to get my hands on this highly anticipated fighter. Anyone else planning to pick this game up, despite it being region locked?

I can't wait to play it.. Is this being released in arcades overseas or is it strictly a console release?

I think I'll wait a while and see if Capcom has any plans for a North American version. Seems unlikely at this point, but I'd hate to put the effort and money into importing it if they did.

I've been wanting to update my Wii to the latest firmware, but that'll mean I can't play any import Wii games...how have you been able to bypass this? The Twilight hack?

yeah, there's an arcade version using modified Wii hardware. There have also been some location tests here and there in the US, nothing big. They had some cabs set up at AEX and ComicCon.

highly unlikely we'll see a US release since most of the Tatsunoko characters and their properties are held by different companies across the US.

I think like 22.
I'm getting this. It's not hard to beat the region lock on the Wii if you have an SD card and a copy of Zelda, in all honesty.

I got a pretty good deal, got it for $60 with free shipping on ebay...play-asia has it for $69.90, and I have a $8 coupon if anyone needs it...oh, and they also have the stick too if you want to get that. I was pretty disappointed with the lack of sanwa parts in it though.

Hey Markman, how does the stick compare to the older Wii Hori that came out over here? If my stick doesn't work with the adapter I ordered I'm probably gonna pick one of those Horis up.

Played this for a bit a few hours ago, it's a fun game...I'm no good at the VS. series games, but I enjoy most Capcom games and this seemed to be simpler than MvC2...I was the only one really interested in using Gold Lightan and PTX-40A, though. They can be a lot of fun.
Also for release issues and character counts...Honestly, Wikipedia.
The one thing I can't find very easily on the 'net is a comprehensive moves list. All the universals have been figured out (Variable, Baroque, Delayed, etc), but for supers, it's a guessing game for some, though they're pretty easy. There's a jpg out there detailing some moves, but it was put out during an early version so not all characters are included...I guess I'm getting at "How the hell do I do more than a stupid foot stomp with Gold Lightan?"

Well, here's the bottom-of-the-arcade-bezel style moves list (http://www.capcom.co.jp/tatsucap/images/commandPOP.zip), for whatever that's worth. I can't read Japanese, so I have no idea how helpful this is(n't).

Thank you very much, this is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully someone else will make one that includes the console-exclusive characters, but this is much better than the old list I had.
If you want any help on translations (when it comes to the commands, anyway) I can tell you...On the names of the moves I'm not as good.

wow, this game's a blast to play and yeah, for some reason it does feel a bit simpler to play than MvC2. It's a nice little distraction that should keep me occupied until SF4 and Tekken 6 comes out.

Played this game a hell of a lot last week. Pretty awesome.
I can't compete against competitive fighting game players, but I am a little better than most casual players.
I like the combat in this a lot more than in the Marvel VS games. Baroque seems pretty nifty, and I think the two giant characters are fun, but really though to play.
The biggest flaw with this game is the very small cast of characters. Hopefully this will follow the path of previous VS games, and we'll get more.

Crap. I'm not happy that I'll have to go through the damn import process, but... I hear it's not too bad compared to other systems. I'll still wait a bit to foolishly hear of any American announcement... but I do really want to play this game, so if it fails, I'll spring for it however I can.

What's in it? Stock Hori?
If it were me, I'd swap it out for some Seimitsu parts - but then you won't see me playing this game, just shooters with it most likely.
Why? Because word over at Shmups Forum is this game is no good (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=26187).
Don't bother putting it on anything more than a 480p screen, it seems. Definitely not on 1080 widescreen.
TonyTheTiger
05-17-2009, 11:48 AM
The game is good. The presentation just has a few little quirks. It's A) 480p only because it's a Wii game and B) doing some weird pseudo widescreen thing that makes certain wall combos only work in 4:3 mode. Other than that, after spending a lot of time with the game I can't say that I've noticed anything detrimentally wrong with it.
And just the fact that Capcom put forth the mad effort to get the licensing issues worked out (which never would have happened even 4 or 5 years ago) is pretty awesome. The only thing I'm worried about is that this game is pretty old now and anybody who wanted to play it on a domestic Wii very well has been this whole time. That being the case, I'm afraid the ship has sailed and this release is going to get ignored. And I'd hate to think that Capcom is going to interpret it as a message that the company should have done what it would have a few years back and said "screw it, you ain't getting it here." In order to generate more interest they don't have much of a choice but to try to add good online play, which on the Wii is probably easier said than done.

TvC is a lot of fun. Maybe a little broken, but pretty much all the Capcom vs games were like that, so, it's not like this is anything new :P
Shmups forum guys should stick to shmups. Shoryuken people seem to think the game is fun if nothing else, and I happen to agree.

Yeah, the game isn't deep or anything, but it is pretty fun. And from what I've played, I thought the graphics were very well done.
If the rumor is true, I'll be picking it up. I wonder if Capcom pushed this through to make up for them not releasing MvC2 on the Wii.

On one hand this is great news for those who didn't bother to import it, and for those who did import it, this too little too late. Unless they add some sort of incentive like new characters or online, there's no reason to buy this again.

It's pretty much inferred. He's not in any of the trailers or press releases so far, and he wasn't mentioned in the Nintendo Power article about the game coming stateside, whereas everyone else is pretty much accounted for through those. They haven't come right out and said Big Al is the dropped character, but it looks pretty obvious.
Not that it's a big loss. He's fun to play, but he's absolutely terrible. In a game where combos and range are important, he has neither.

Considering Capcom guys said a while back that they were not putting in anyone from Speed Racer or Samurai Pizza Cats it's not really surprising. Speed Racer I'm willing to bet was pure licensing issues. I mean, consider who IS in the game. Mostly characters that haven't been seen outside of Asia since the 70s, and Karas. Hakushon Daimao was licensed in Europe, and they couldn't work out an agreement to get him in the international release of the game. Now consider Speed Racer, who has an old show, a new show, comics, a movie, etc. that's a nightmare.
I mean if you want to skip out on the game because it doesn't have one goddamn character, then you're definitely missing out. It's fantastic.

I've played the game in an arcade around here, and I think it's very good. But I didn't know any of the Tatsunoko characters. Samurai Pizza Cats and Speed Racer probably wouldn't have been that hard to license, since the movie, TV show, comics, etc. for Speed Racer would have had to gotten the same license from whoever owns the rights to Speed in the states.
"Samurai Pizza Cats, they're so bad!"
