2. Special Lists

A. Deluxe Sets With Extra Content

01) Fallout 3. Collector’s Edition. Comes in a metal lunch box with a plastic slip cover. Included are a bobblehead figurine, a hardcover art book, and a making-of-DVD in a special slip cover. Available in standard and two special editions. The game in the collector’s edition is identical with the standard version.

02) Fallout 3. Survival Edition. This was an exclusive release from the retailer Amazon. Comes in its own special packaging in an oversized cardboard box resembling a shipping box with the console logo, title, graphics, developer and publisher printed on it. It contains the Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition (see 01) and a life-size replica of the ‘Pip-Boy 3000’ with a standee, a wrist-mounted device from the game. Available in standard and two special editions.The game in the survival edition is identical with the standard version.

There we go...a RPG list for the PS3. Looks meager compared to the 360, but since I had it anyway on file, why not post it? ... and it's good to get an overview which games are multiplatform.

Square Enix has no RPG for the PS3 so far but exclusives on the 360, and the The Last Remnant will be the first Square Enix game around April. So far no word on Infinite Undiscovery or Namcos Tales of Vesperia. At least Eternal Sonata was ported from the 360, and Atlus showed some PS3-love with the exclusive Disgaea 3.

However, the exclusives Folklore and Valkyria Chronicles shouldn't be missed! In particular Folklore is an underappreciated game and one of the best action RPGs I have played!


For the following I need your help although I followed the RPGs for the PS3 pretty closely:

Are there games which should be included or removed??

Are there other RPGs available as downloads only from the PS Network? (With this I really need your help!)

Are there MMO RPGs?

Are there games which come in regular cases with some kind of extra content? (soundtrack CDs, cards, DVDs, lions, tigers and bears?)

Are there more deluxe sets/special editions?

Are there more games released as Greatest Hits?

White Knight Chronicles (developed by Level-5, published by Sony) comes out in Japan on December 25th. Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi (Aqua Plus) came out in Japan on July 18th, but probably won't ever come out over here. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a PS3 exclusive, but most likely won't be coming out anytime soon.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.* Infinite Interactive, D3 Publisher, 10/9/08.

A borderline case for sure; a puzzle/RPG hybrid, but in order to be inclusionary and as a download only certainly justified to be added.

As an upcoming title I added Dragon Age: Origins from Bioware (published by EA) which is scheduled for November 2009.

You don't have to worry about Infinite Undiscovery; it'll never get a PS3 release. The development was funded by Microsoft, and they were actually planning on publishing it themselves but late into the project they figured it would help sales to bring Square Enix on board since they have so much RPG cred'.

FF XIII release update: Sony plans to get the game out in Japan for the holiday season 2009, which means a likely release in America in the summer or late fall 2010.

If you count portable releases then we do get at least one a year. A full-fledged console FF per year would suck in my opinion.

Japan's getting it in 2009, though it's highly unlikely that the rest of the world will. I'm going to be importing it since I'd rather not wait the 6 months or so that it'll most likely take for them to release it over here.

How is this an RPG? It's a mediocre God of War rip off. The fact that you "level up" makes this an RPG?

The RPG elements in Rise of the Argonauts are indeed weak. Probably I'll put the title in the borderline category.

Demon's Souls needs to be added to the list. It's an Action RPG developed by From Software and published by Sony. The game is only out in Japan and Asia, but the Asian and Korean versions are 100% in English, including voice acting. I imported a copy last month and it's a great game, though very difficult.

Does anyone know if this list will be updated? I love the PSX/PSP/PS2 ones to death, it'd be awesome to be able to frequently refer to this one, especially given the amount of new/upcoming PS3 RPGs as of late.

The last i spoke to lendelin, and he was over in europe, he lives in the usa, that was over 6 months ago or more. I think he got stuck over there, thats my quess. Hope he makes it back someday.

Absolutely it is. And so are many other games released since April 9, 2009. I'm going to get Star Ocean Last Hope International as soon as my credit card is paid off.
