Help me think of a DS game for my son!

He's young (turning 5 soon), but reads VERY well. He's had education "minigame" collections like SmartBoys, Storybook Interactive, and some Crayola thing too.

What I'm really looking for is something that progresses from a start to a finish, so that he can accomplish something bigger instead of just solving little 30 second puzzles over and over. He struggles some with reflexes/fine motor control (he can't really do two things at once, so anything with jumping control is pretty much out).

He likes playing Paper Mario on GC, but is limited because of some of the more mid-level platforming parts. I was thinking something a little more like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

Any thoughts?

How about Animal Crossing: Wild World? While it's not a game with a clearly defined ending, there are lots of interim accomplishments to achieve that don't necessarily feel like mini-games. It meets your other criteria at any rate. My daughter is 8, and has been playing it for well over a year now.

You could get him the GBA version of "Legend of Zelda". I almost beat the game when I was six. So it should be a good choice for very young children. And gets him into the classics.

Get him the GBA remake of Pokemon red or blue (er...green). those were the first games I ever played, and I still have fond memories...Unforunately the games kind of suck now...

Try Yoshi's Island, or New Super Mario Brothers.

I found NSMB to be a bit too easy honestly. I'm sure a five year old would find it challenging but not too hard to beat.

Yoshi's Island is one I just picked up recently and I love it. It's also quite easy but the mechanics (egg throwing, the need to switch babies, etc) might be a bit too overwhelming for someone so young.

You could always go with one of the most recent pokemon games, They're pretty easy but have ALOT to do compared with the older ones. They have a linear progression so you get that sense of accomplishment making some progress each night. Or the remake of chrono trigger which is a pretty easy rpg not to mention its one of the greats, the story is pretty cool as it involves time travel which kids love and it has a bunch of humorous moments too. Other than that the nes classics series on the GBA has some good candidates like the two zelda games, or the original super mario series.

Yoshi's Island is amazing but would be probably way too hard for him(he'd beat game with 100% completion when he's in his mid twenties lol),
new super mario is a cakewalk from start to finish though so that might be great fit.
I'd recommend Kirby games and Princess Peach.

I would recommend New Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Island, whatever the new Kirby game is and maybe Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. These are the types of games my little brother liked when he was 5. He didn't think that Yoshi's Island was very hard or confusing, then again he is The Wizard.
