I picked up a VHS promoting Diddy Kong Racing for N64 at a pawn shop, If I were at home I'd post a pic, but I was just wondering if you guys had heard/seen it before, and if it's at all rare...?

I'd like to piggy-back this question by asking the same thing about the Majora's Mask/Banjo Tooie VHS that came in the mail from Toys R Us. I assume it's not rare, of course, but does anyone know anymore than I remember about it (which is near nothing)?

The only N64 promotional VHS I remember is the first one, where the guy is like torturing Mario, and the kids are like nooo, and they show Super Mario 64 in Action.

In the past I have sold these on the forums for $2-$3 with the outer sleeve. I'm not sure if they go for more though.

I think you are remembering the one for Star Fox 64. That video is a must-watch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBF3X3ZaS2Q).

They arn't worth but a few bucks tops.
Also don't bump your thread in here like you did. It's on the first page, still at the top of that page and you felt the need to bump it three times in 30 minutes?

Like most of the N64 promo tapes, they can be amusing to watch, but not worth much - I'd say $1-3 tops. They were sent to Nintendo Power subscribers and you could also rent them at Blockbuster for free. There's some more info on the Diddy Kong Racing tape here (http://www.platypuscomix.net/interactive/nvideos3.html).
Also, if you thought some of the Wii advertising has been tacky, take a look at this:

I agree with Digital Space: these usually sell for $1-3 (I got my Majora's Mask one for $3 a few months ago). If you ever see someone selling these for more than $5 than you should probably pass on them because they aren't worth that much(you can actually find people selling them on ebay for $20-40 each....and they stay with that seller for years at those prices).

lol hey chad i was just going to say that i sold mine for like 3 bucks but looks like you started the process for me. Hope you had fun watching that tape if your lucky i had it rewound for you lol. They seem to be a weird little unwanted collectible but only time will tell there. does anyone know how many were made for the 64 and if there are older ones for other systems.

I sold one that was full of commercials for the Atari Jaguar over the summer so yes--older ones exist. It's basically like this: before there were kiosk disc(which all next gen systems have now) companys used vhs tapes to display their game footage. This started somewhere around the Atari 2600 days(maybe earlier) and ended with the 32 bit PS1/Saturn/N64/Jaguar days. So the 32 bit gen is the last gen you will regularly find vhs tapes for. There might have been a few after that but not many.

I got the Diddy Kong one and the Banjo one. They are funny. One is funnier than the other. I just don't remember wich. I got them for a dollar. Total. I saw them a long time ago but did not pick them up. I was kicking myself until I picked these 2 up. I'd like the Majora one and any others. I'm sure I'll find it someday.

Sega sent me a vhs tape for the Saturn before it came out. I recently sold that on ebay around May of this year. I kind of regret that now:(

I'm somewhat of a collector of the Nintendo tapes. I was always really excited to find one in my mail box, and I picked up a few more years later. They may not be worth much in terms of cash, but they're worth watching. Generally, the older the are, the better, I'd say. The Donkey Kong Country tape is one of my favorites. Really got me hyped up for the game and was the sole factor in my launch day purchase. Love laughing at how corny it is these days. Star Fox 64 is another "classic". By the time they got to Diddy Kong Racing, they were getting more stupid than funny, and later ones abandoned the humor and acting all together. I was really disappointed in the Majora's Mask tape. It's extremely short and pretty boring.

Since we're kinda on the subject, how about the one for Final Fantasy VII? It's called Square Soft Collector's something or other and has interviews w/ people that worked on the game, four US commercials for it and some demo shots of other Squaresoft games that came out around then (SaGa Frontier, FFT and some others I think).

I think "The 1 2 P" is selling that vhs in his sale thread. He has a picture of it, so you could check that out to see if it is the same and maybe that'd give you an idea, since I think he has it priced.

The oldest one I have seen is for street fighter 2 turbo, its a purple vhs tape, I've not seen too many of them, but it was pretty neat for its time. I still have mine from when they sent it to me, but I don't beleive I have the sleve it came in.
