View Full Version : Blue Sega Box?

I was just looking in the back of the manual for 5200 Buck Rogers and it had an advertisement for Congo Bong. In the add the box had a blue stripe on it (on the sides), what system is this for? I know the Atari systems had a red stripe and the Intellivision had an orange one, but I've never seen a blue one. C-64 maybe?

probably 5200 itself, as Atari's side stripe for 5200 titles were blue also

Nope the 5200 boxes have red stripes like the 2600 ones. I think all the Atari systems had red stripes.

ah ha I knew it. Buck Rogers was aimed towards pot smokers, I didn't know Sega made pipes though. Sorry, I had to.

Sega titles for the Atari 8-bits had the blue stripe. C-64 had a brown/maroon stripe and the VIC-20 titles had green, IIRC.

Ahh ok. That's odd though because my Atari 8-bit Zaxxon box has a red stripe on it. Too bad it's the only 8-bit sega box I have so I can't check others.

Ahh ok. That's odd though because my Atari 8-bit Zaxxon box has a red stripe on it. Too bad it's the only 8-bit sega box I have so I can't check others.
My mistake...it's the 2600 titles that had the blue stripe. The 5200 and 8-bits had the red (I think). The Commodore titles should be as I stated earlier though.

Nope, 2600 is green (at least on Tac-Scan which is my only 2600 Sega box).
2600 - Green
5200/8-Bit - Red
C-64 - Brown/maroon?
Vic 20 - ?
Intellivision - Orange?

Nope, 2600 is green (at least on Tac-Scan which is my only 2600 Sega box).
You've been deceived. Tac-Scan is an oddball box...all the other 2600 boxes (in that style) have blue.

Probably the same reason Tac-Scan has a gatefold box and the others don't - Sega changed their minds later on.

My 8-bit Zaxxon box must be another one off then because it's got a red stripe. I wonder how many other inconsistencies there are?
EDIT: Ok apparently there are two different 8-bit boxes for Zaxxon. I just went and confirmed that mine is red, but Atarimania has a picture of the yellow one: http://www.atarimania.com/zoom_frame.php?TYPE_IMG=CART&ID=6092&MENU=8&NUM_IMAGE=0. They look exactly the same except mine is red where this one is yellow (and no it's not a 5200 box).
So we have:
2600 - Blue (Tac-Scan green)
5200 - Red
8-bit - Yellow (Zaxxon came in red as well)
C-64 - Brown
Vic 20 - Green
Intellivision - Orange

Haha, yeah. I think Zaxxon was the first Sega / Atari 8-bit release, so like Tac-Scan, it's the exception that doesn't match the color scheme they rolled out after they went ahead and picked one. :)
And then they changed things up again when they went with the white boxes for the later releases like Tapper, Up-N-Down, etc.
