Neat, but why does it exclude Playstation and Saturn?

I believe it is using a Sega Saturn controller as the "Sega CD" controller.

No, that's the six-button Genesis controller.

The Sega Saturn controller is the most comfortable of all time, IMO.

Rename Sega CD to Sega Saturn and should include informations:
1 Dpad
6 Buttons
2 Shoulders
1 Options
Insert between Saturn and N64, Sony PlayStation:
1 Dpad
4 Buttons
4 Shoulders
2 Options
and also include Neo Geo :D

I remember seeing a photographic controller family tree somewhere before that pretty cool. It showed what designs "gave birth" to others.

Had to go back a ways in my bookmarks, but I think this may be the one you're referring to:

The linked image does not say that it is the "evolution of the controller", the original poster said that. So I wouldn't get too bent out of shape that something is missing.
Also why is the Wii classic controller at the bottom of both of these graphics (original link and "Family Tree" link)? If anything is should be somewhere tween SNES and GameCube. Yes, No?
I got the the title from the blog post. It's clearly not very accurate, but I wasn't sure when I posted. Sorry about that.

Style-wise it should be between there. But a family tree is meant to show progression of time, so since it was designed last, it should be at the bottom.

Where's the Power Glove and U Force? I think those were pretty revolutionary in the evolutionary scheme of game controllers, even if they didn't work perfectly.

Jaguar?
There wasn't anything evolutionary about that controller, other than you could kill a yak with it if you swung it around your head a few times and threw it. ;)
