I figured this would be a fun thread to start for all of us dedicated Left 4 Deaders. Basically I thought it could be a good way for us to share strategies and tips on how to get certain achievements or get past certain parts, and also for us to post what ones we need to get that way we could set up gaming meets and scenarios in game to help us get specific achievements.

That said, I think I've started to notice a pattern on the finale levels (during the rescue vehicle fights) where you can hid in certain spots that allow you to take little to no damage when fighting the Tank. I've been playing with people and found such spots on both Death Toll and Dead Air, so I'm starting to wonder if such things exist in the other two.

I'm really looking right now for a group that wants to get (or help me get) the do no disturb one, as it seems people always want to just kill her.

I've found that on the final level, you can kneel in the corner where the weapon closet is and keep firing at the tank with the shotty to kill him. Sometimes, the tank wont be able to hit you.

Do you have the pc version or the 360 version?

General tips:

- The best (only?) way to kill a tank in expert is to set him on fire and run like hell until he's dead from the flames. Always have at least one person with a molotov, preferably two in case the first one can't toss a grenade properly. Never go back for people the tank knocks down, just rescue them from the closets.

- Speaking of closets, if more than one person has died, don't immediately open the door for the first one that spawns. If you wait a few seconds, the other person will spawn and you won't have to pick them up later on.

- Always close doors behind you so that you'll at least have a few seconds to prepare for an attack from the rear when you hear enemies beating the door down.

- The first good spot are two adjacent rooms underneath the room right in the center (with the satellite dish). Toss a gas can (if available) outside and bring extras in the rooms, with two players occupying each room. The crossfire will eliminate most if not all of the horde, and the only time you'll have trouble is in dealing with the tanks when the horde dies down (though you'll likely need to go out for a restock of ammo during this time anyway).

- The other good location is the room just above these rooms, right underneath the satellite dish. It's not a door you can open, but once the horde bursts through it, you can enter and go largely unchallenged by any enemies, as they have trouble entering the room. Apparently if you crouch, the horde won't bother you at all, and you can wait on the chopper in relative peace. Of course, I didn't get to experience this thanks to a teammate who decided I would work best as kindle and promptly threw a molotov on me before the first horde rush.

I saw 2 people hide under the ramp leading up to the helicopter pad on the No Mercy campaign. Worked well until the tank came and walked right in there. I have not tried it against the CPU yet to see if it smart enough to send the tank in there. Some of the common infected came in but I didn't see any boomers, smokers or hunters attempt to go in there.

There are my achievements. Not too many tips on how to get them, though here are some general tips:

- Melee hunters. If a hunter jumps on a buddy or is in sight, just melee the crap out of him. It'll take 4-5 hits for him to die, and each hit stuns him so no risk of him doing damage.

- Tanks attack whoever has done the most damage to him recently. If you're in a big area, you can make him run back and forth between people if you coordinate it well enough. True, molotovs are the best way to kill a tank, but this way has worked for me on several occasions.

- Save medkits. Once you are in red HP don't immediately heal up. Wait unitl you are on your last legs to heal, unless you feel it absolutely nessesary to do otherwise.

- To avoid friendly fire, have the people in the front of the group crouch. That way the people in back can shoot over them without having to shoot around.

- No Mercy strategy #1 is to hide in the closet in the room with the radio. Hold there and when the tank comes, run out. Light him on fire then evade until he dies, at which point you get back in the closet. This closet strategy should be used whenever possible in any level. If a horde comes, get into the nearest room with one entrance and hold there until it's over.

- Close doors! Close them behind you and close them in front of you. Zombies can't open doors; they have to break them apart. You can shoot through doors (and thin walls/objects) so use that to your advantage.

A friend of mine has all but two of the achievements. He doesn't have "53,595 kills" and the one where you can't let any party members take damage from a special infected. FWIW, he claims it's impossible to get that achievement with the AI.

yeah, L4D is very addicting...I only have 4 achievements left that I need to get.

Here's another tip:

- The Tank runs faster if he is on fire. If you have nowhere to go, just run and gun.

Meleeing the Tank forces him to stop pounding on a teammate

I tested with last night in a versus battle and it does not work well if you are by yourself. The common infected did run right in.

yeah, tried that in an advanced match with human players, doesn't really work all that well, as the tank does go in there. I read another strategy that suggests going onto the roof of the building with the radio, then jumping on to the barbed wire ledge in the back. Supposedly you can go out far enough that you won't fall off, and the infected can't hit you, and, if all 4 survivors are huddled together, the Tank will just sit right below you trying to climb up, but not be able to.

there's a great spot in death toll, it's on top of a rock all the way to the right of the dock (player facing water) at the edge of the map. It's a little tricky to get up there, but once you do, if all 4 stay huddled and you have on person to pick off smokers and hunters in the water, you're pretty much invincible.

try running through the levels with the commentary. it stops the game at times and kills off some of the specials for you or spawns them to get you a few extra chances that you might not get again at getting achievments without playing through untill it gets boring.
