Finals are over! Cramming, late-nights, and examination hell comes to a close. Celebrations are in order.
Continuing the long standing tradition cramming to the one subject I love most: video games. With a pre-ordered Persona 4 in hand, tore off the wrapping and popped this baby for a spin...or so I thought. Just as soon I sat down, the screen turn red and says to put a Playstation2 or Playstation format disc. WTH? was my immediate thought and a good reset was in order. But the same damn red screen appears again. Third time's a charm, right? I turned everything off and back on again. Placed the accursed disc back into my PS2 and....the red screen returns. :(
I don't get it. The game is fresh new. Any P4 owners on here experience these same problems?

I don't own a PS2, but is this symptom indicative of a laser being out of alignment, or is this what a PS2 does when a burn, or scratched disc is inserted?

I have an Amplitude disc that does the same on my fat PS2. Only that one game does that, as all my other games work perfectly with it. It isn't a dud either, since my recently bought PSTwo doesn't have problems reading it.
I don't mind it a lot since I have a lot of games left to play and by the time the fat PS2 bits the dust, the PSTwo will be replacing it. Try it on another PS2 first.

My disc works perfectly fine on a PS3 (HDTV) and on the PS2 (standard TV).
If you never experienced a problem like this with other discs then it's probably the disc.

You got a bad burn.
Take it back and get another one. That should solve your problem.

Gotta be the disc if others work fine. I've never had this happen with a retail game, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

This is a known issue with older PS2's. There were a few threads on the P4 GameFAQs board of people who've exchanged multiple copies of the game with the same results. One interesting thing is that they all said P4 was the only game that was giving them trouble. Most of them were using the older "fat" PS2's. IMO, the most likely scenario is a finicky laser...old PS2 or not.

Believe it or not, but there are bad copies of P4 floating around. It's not just you. ;)
Just go switch it for a new one.

Persona 4 is more than a game ... it's like the PEYOTE, he chooses to play with you, not the other way :D
It seems that Persona 4 does not want to play with you, sorry man :(

My P4 copy works fine too. You probably just had bad luck.
