The Mega/Sega CD RPG is now available on the iPhone and properly adapted to the wide touch screen interface.

I've only just downloaded it, but I'll give further impressions when I've had a chance to sit down and have a good crack on it.

I also got Hero of Sparta as that's been receiving glowing reviews. Unfortunately, I Love Katama and Brothers in Arms are lacking at the moment. I'll consider them if they are improved with updates.

Wow, how bizarre. Of all the games to port to the iPhone...

Thats what I was thinking. This is certainly from out of nowhere although it's cool to hear. I always liked Vay. It wasn't a great RPG but it was solid and had it's charming moments.

Kroll is a good game. They handled the controls well. It's kind of an old-school game, a throwback to the early '90s in that it's a two-dimensional beat-'em-up but this one's presented in full 3D. You have a linear path to move on, so all you have to worry about is moving forward and backward, and attacking. As an added bonus, it looks far better than any other app on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Auto Mangle is another favorite of mine, but that's because I've always loved vehicular combat games. You've got a demolition derby mode and a race track mode.

On the classic side, there's a port of Adventure but with movement handled by the accelerometer (which I think was a mistake - it gets too difficult to control) and LED Football, which is a nice recreation of the old Mattel Football handhelds.

I've had a short crack on Vay and it's pretty cool. I've gone through the cave, found Otto and recruited Pottle. The controls are a little odd; they've decided not to got for a virtual-dpad, and made it a full touch interface. For close distances, you touch the screen where you want to go and matey wanders over. Touch a chest and you open it, touch a character and you wander over and chat. If you double tap a direction you run in that direction until you touch the screen again. It can be a little fiddly but it's ok.

It'd be interesting if someone who's played the Mega CD original could give an opinion on the quality of the conversion.

I've actually spent most of my time on Hero of Sparta. This is absolutely awesome and a must buy for iPhone/iPod Touch owners. It's a fully 3D run around hack n' slash set in Ancient Greece. As the bad-ass warrior Argos you run around killing Minotaurs, scorpions, centaurs and other mythical beasties.

There's a virtual-analogue stick and buttons for block and attack on the screen. The stick actually works really well and attacking is absolutely bang-on; you can pull off pretty cool combos. There's also special attacks available that involve tapping icons on the screen and you pull off a pre-set special move that viciously slaughters the shit out of a Minotaur.

The game looks the absolute shit. The in-game graphics are really very good and the cut scenes are very cool. I'm continually impressed by what the iPhone can do. I honestly didn't expect to buy many games when I got it. But so far Crash Bandicoot Kart, MotoChaser, Vay, Monkey Ball and HoS have proven to be well worth the money.

What an odd game to port to the iphone. I've had Vay sitting on my shelf for years now and never got around to playing it because I heard that it was hard and not very good. Then again, I've got a looong trip coming up over Christmas. I think I'll be getting this one...

Vay is pretty solid, you should give it a spin if you've got the time. I think people just tend to compare it to Lunar and Popful Mail because those were the other games in Working Designs' catalog at the time, and those are just stone cold classics that are freakishly good. I preferred Vay to Dark Wizard and Cosmic Fantasy 2 at the time.

Just got this on my iPhone today. I'm hoping it turns out to be good.
