I recently aqquired all three Super Star Wars games of the Super Nintendo and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how often they find them in the wild. The only way I could finish getting all three games was to utilize eBay as the last time I had seen Empire or Return of the Jedi was about 10 years ago at a local video game rental store. I hadnt seen them at all since. Not at a thrift store or flea market and believe me, I looked.
Another thing I wanted to ask the community is if Im the only one that thinks these games are absolutely ridiculously hard at all times. I almost put my fist through the wall early on in Super Star Wars. Just the darned mode7 jawa killing stage was a pain in the butt.

#1. None of them are scarce by any means. The first is probably the most common, with the last being the least common of the 3, but still common enough by overall standards. Unless things have changed since 2006
#2. You're not alone at all. All 3 games are very tough and are well known for their difficulty.

The only one that gives me any real trouble (difficulty wise) is the first, the other 2 I managed to beat plenty of times over my childhood. They werent easy, but with a bit of practice, like many games of the time, they were no issue :P

They're a pretty common sight among SNES games. I'd say Super Star Wars shows up the most among the three, but you'll see the other two almost as often. However, you'll probably see the Majesco rereleases of Empire and Return of the Jedi (the sticker on the back of the cart has been replaced with text stamped into the plastic) a little more often than the original copies.
Super Star Wars not only became a Player's Choice title, but was later rereleased by Majesco, and is the only SNES title with both variants.

The second stage on Super Star Wars isn't hard(mode 7 part) It's not until you get to the part where you're supposed to board the Sandcrawler that I get pissed off(right after the mode 7 part,) since any missed jump you have to start all the way over redo the entire thing.
I think Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is the hardest one. First stage is a pretty difficult mode 7 part, the stages themselves are quite a bit difficult too.

I still have nightmares about this part.

The first game is the one I used to see most often at gamestop, Funco, etc back during the used SNES eras. The other 2 not as often, maybe once in awhile, sometimes if lucky all 3 or more then one copy of them

Return of the Jedi was one of the first SNES games I picked up when I started collecting SNES this year ($5 at the flea market). And I agree, very challenging.

Very common. Jedi and Empire were at first released by JVC, with color manuals, like Super Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Later, they were released by THQ with black and white manuals. Not sure if SSW got the same treatment. Very good games. I think I got all three in one ebay auction for $10.

The games are tough to beat for sure and I share the frustration of the Sandcrawler level in Super Star Wars. I tried playing that stage about a month ago, and ended up turning off the console in anger. I remember being a lot better at them when I was a kid. But that could have been me using tons of cheats to beat them.
These games are probably my 3 favorite games for the SNES. So it's a good thing that they were pretty cheap on eBay when I went to rebuy them a few years ago.
I think the one I enjoy most is Empire. Which makes sense, as it's my favorite Star Wars film. Fuck George Lucas. That is all.

I actually found SSW and SROJ multiple times at garage sales last summer. Never did find SESB though. I just sold a SSW and SROJ on ebay, and I can definitely tell you they don't command the prices of rare games.

You can usually find these factory sealed for under $20 each(I constantly see Super Star Wars for around $10 factory sealed on ebay).

I checked the Empire and Return of the Jedi game cartridges, Empire has the stamped plastic back and Return of the Jedi has the typical Super Nintendo label.
I agree with what you people have said of the sandcrawler stage on the first Super Star Wars. Just thinking of it makes me want to retch. One miscalculated jump and *BOOM*, back to the beginning with all of the enemies along the way regenerated. Now that's a classic case of 2D video game frustration which has probably ended up with the typical controller-thrown-against-the-wall more than just a few times.

All this has been said here already, but....
I see Super Star Wars around half of the time that I go game hunting. I see Empire and Jedi less, but not any less than once every 4 or 5 times I'm out.
And, on a lighter note- f*ck these games. Everyone says things about battletoads, etc. But I can't stand the star wars series. I bought two at once last summer, played 5 minutes of each- got pissed as HELL and shut off the system... I didn't play SNES for a week afterward just because of the taste it left in my mouth.
REVIEW-
Kind of hard to find all three all the time, difficult to a fault- it takes away from the game's enjoyment and in turn my enjoyment of the movies and franchise in general. Thank god for KOTR and battlefront, otherwise the Star Wars license really upset me growing up.

This was about four or five years ago, but I somehow managed to find Return of the Jedi with its box (though the manual was photocopied), and... I forget how much I paid for it, but it was a pleasant surprise. I imagine their rarity today is somewhere in the middle of common and scarce, perhaps tilting more to the common side.

If it wasnt for games like KOTR and battlefront I would be pretty scared of picking up any Star Wars game. These Super nintendo ones are made of nightmares at times.

Just thought I'd mention that Majesco rereleases had black and white manuals, just in case that's what you recieved.
If you think its photocopied since its in black and white, unlike the colored manuals everyones used to on the SuperNes, its just a Majesco title.

THQ versions had black and white manuals, JVC had color. What did Majesco release?

LOL you guys weren't kidding about the difficulty... That damned sand crawler platform jumping section is annoying as hell... And then once you get in the sand crawler, it gets even harder! LOL... It's a cool game, just too damned hard...

Huh... never knew that. However, the paper of the manual feels different from how manuals typically feel, so I'm certain it's a copy of the original manual. Oh well, a manual's a manual. And... I have used "manual" too much in this paragraph.

The difficulty of the trilogy is highly exaggerated, I think. I finished each one within a day or two after initially buying them, and I'm only an average player.
I do want to note that, for the record, Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures blows the trilogy away. There's just something about it that's more fun.

I find the Star Wars SNES games very frequently. On a recent PnT run I found about 5 copies of IV, 4 copies of V, and 2 of VI. All priced at $4.99, 20% off (10% member disc. + 10% holiday coupon) and B2G1. All three would cost just under $9 including tax.

I know these three games are ridiculously hard but they also all have debug codes. I thought that these cheat codes made them easier. Of course, I can't try them out because my three copies are all still factory sealed.

I beat all three recently in a fairly short amount of time. If you google for hints and faqs, there are several tips for beating the hard parts without too much trouble. The key is the weapon power-ups. When you get them, you can destroy the enemies. I found the most difficult level to be the one in Jedi, where you are high above Endor, and having to jump all over the place.
Also, yes, Indiana Jones was the better game. You got all three movies in one game, the Mode 7 boards were awesome, and the music was top notch. But remember, the Star Wars games were developed by Sculptured Software, while Indy was done by Factor 5, the group that went on to do Rogue Squadron and the N64 Indiana Jones. Sculptured became a division of Acclaim.
