The 21st Century DP Generator of Apocalyptic Reckoning (tm) has chosen Demolition Man - specifically the Sega CD version but since I doubt there's more than a handful of people who have played ANY version, let's open it up to the Genesis, 3DO and SNES versions as well.

I haven't played the SNES version, but the Genesis and Sega CD games are similar but both of those are different than the 3DO game. The Sega console versions are more side-scrolling shoot'em ups like Contra (and much closer to Robocop vs. Terminator) while the 3DO game is more of a first person light-gun style game like Lethal Enforcers.

Ever play them? What did you think? Post your mini-review here. If you haven't played the games, feel free to comment on the movie :)

DP Guide sez:

If I remember right, the 3DO version had several different genres in it. A fighting game, a FPS, a driving game, a shooting game (ala Virtua Cop). It didn't do any of them especially well, but it was a nice variety taking you through the movie.

What does stand out in my mind was the extra footage and voices recorded by Sylvester Stallone. One of them is on the difficulty selection screen. If you set the difficulty to easy, Sly pops up on the screen and says "You suck !". (or something like that)

I personally love this game.

Bungee jumping out of a helicopter as the very first part of the game was so cool (for 16-bit anyways) and then running out of the building as it was blowing up. It was intense.
I also really loved the movie though, so that might have something to do with it.

I'm talking about Genesis, by the way,

You are absolutely right, Fred. The shooting part is the bit I remember the most, but I do remember that crappy fight engine and vaguely remember the driving sequences. I'll have to break it out again. It's been the Genesis version for me all the way though - as Brandon stated, the game was very cool for 16-bit and is often overlooked as "another movie license that flopped". The game may have flopped in sales but it's a damn fine game anyway.

As I vaguely recall, Stallone's participation in the 3DO version, with the game-specific footage and voiceovers, was unprecedented for an A-list celeb. (Okay, Sly was arguably B-list even a decade ago, but he broke new ground nonetheless.)

I also vaguely recall a code that allowed you to romp through Virgin's offices in the FPS segment, shooting a digitized Tommy Tallarico (who directed the video segments AND did the sound and music).

Shooting a digitized Tommy Tallarico? Sign me up!
Is there any truth to the rumor that you can find revealing pictures of Sandra Bullock in the 3DO version of Demolition Man? That's what I've heard, anyway.

Here are some answers regarding those cheats.

They're both real but I don't think there's anything revealing in the Sandra Bullock code, other than what she SAYS.

I own the 3DO version and have played it a fair bit.

In addition to the levels already mentioned it has doomy/fps type sections where you are chasing Wesley Snipes through a load of corridors. There is a cheat that gives you the chance to wander around Virgin interactive(I think it was) shooting programmers and the like....cool! :D

I think the game as a whole hangs to gether pretty well...Its got good atmosphere and is quite immersive.....none of the individual elements are that great, but it somehow is a better game overall than its individual bits a nd pieces.

I had a good time with this game.

Good in some parts, BADLY dated today. It was cool that during the shooting scenes you could shoot background elements that could affect the gunfight. I always got trapped in the DOOM part of this game though; I would just be chasing Simon around forever, and I could never get anywhere. I think I got to the driving sequence once.

The fighting parts are absolutely terrible.

The footage w/ Stallone is pretty cool. If you set the game to easy he says "You suck!"
