It's in HD, supports up to six player online races and it looks pretty nice. I liked the music in the video. I have got to get my Xbox connected to Live.

It does sadden me that OutRun has been relegated to a download and there's no physical product, though.

Hell yes!
Outrun is one of the properties that Sega rebooted in recent years with much technical success IMO.
Though I'm not sure what Luke Plunkett is talking about ... it looks pretty much exactly like Sumo Digitals renditions of the game on home consoles/portables.
Whatever the case may be, I'll be picking this one up for sures.

Thanks for posting, I can't wait to download this. :)
Between this, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, and House of the Dead Overkill, will be a decent year to be a Sega fan.

Amen!
Throw in Daytona 2 and the original Daytona, ala the Sega Rally 1995 disc for PS2, and you have a real winner. Sega really just needs to do an arcade racing compilation. We need good home versions of OutRunners & Turbo OutRun as well. A man can dream...
Back to the topic, maybe people with actually buy OutRun 2 this time. Sales for the surprisingly good looking PS2 version were relatively brisk, but the game generally doesn't get anywhere near the respect it deserves. The XBox version of C2C is awesome, as is the original release (mostly for the emulated original).

Saw this earlier, can't wait. C2C on the Xbox was excellent so I'm hoping this is just as good.
Go on Sega, bring Daytona, Rally and Scud Race to PSN. Hell, how about a bit of Crazy Taxi while you're at it...

Anyone know whats included? That link says its a remake of the arcade original in what appears to be the Outrun 2 engine.
At the same time, that video appears in that link to include some Outrun 2 and Outrun 2 SP stages, which would surprise me since we'd be looking at a game more in line as far as file size goes to a Xbox Original than a XBLA arcade or PSN release. Hopefully they don't have any file size limitations to work within, and they include all Outrun2/2006 content with their new remake of the arcade original.

Original game rebuilt in the new engine + all of the bonus stuff from Outrun 2 and C2C, from what I understand.
Hopefully that includes the Scud Race course. *swoon*

Do you mean DX or SDX? Its my understanding that there weren't any new tracks in it, its just running on new hardware with the addition of linked cooperative play.
If there was a new set of tracks created for it, I want those too. :)

This will be nice. As it currently stands the only version I have is on that iffy Sega Ages comp disc for PS2...actually, though, Outrun is one of the better games on it.
Still, this will kick ass. Simple arcade-style racing. I'm stoked.

A producer at Sumo that has posted at GameFaqs since the days before Outrun 2 was released on the Xbox confirms that Outrun 2 tracks won't be included due to size constraints, but hinted they might be considered for DLC.
Sounds like we're just getting the Outrun 2 SP tracks, but I haven't seen that spelled out. Besides that Kotaku link, I've seen no mentions of the original Outrun tracks being remade in the Outrun 2 engine, which would've been cool.
So don't go selling your Outrun 2/Outrun 2006 disc just yet. :)
The Sega Ages remake of Outrun was pretty nice. Far inferior to the arcade original or the Outrun 2 titles, but it was still a pleasant experience. Made buying that disc worthwhile. :)

SDX, I think.
I remember reading about it when it was new to the arcades, and it reportedly had new tracks. Perhaps the article I read was referring to the SP tracks, though, and I just misunderstood.

No new tracks in SP DX, I'm afraid, unless they're REALLY hidden, and I didn't find them the times I played it. :)

It would seem that Outrun Online Arcade is going to be exclusively for Xbox owners in the USA. It's still coming to the European PlayStation Network and everywhere else, just not the USA.

I love me some Outrun as I already have both of the XBOX versions, but I'm still conflicted as to whether I want to get this or not. It seems that the only thing thats gonna be different from what I already have is the online multiplayer. If they give me some new tracks, new play modes, or anything else besides that I'll be in for sure.

I have a feeling the XBLA exclusivity is just a misunderstanding because there is no logical reason for it.
Of course, this is Sega we're dealing with, so who knows.
Leo_A
01-21-2009, 01:52 AM
No misunderstanding, a Sumo Digital employee has said its likely.
Not releasing it on PSN in the US is a pretty stupid decision. Why pass up on an opportunity for more sales? It's not like they'll be out a lot of money if it doesn't sell well, since it's not a retail release.

He wasn't able to elaborate, I agree that it doesn't make any sense. I was hoping to get both versions and see how well each version turned out. Guess we'll have to try to buy it off the UK PSN store.
It was DarthSol at the GameFaqs Xbox Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast forum that passed along the information, if anyone is curious. He's well known as a employee of Sumo Digital and has been passing along information since Outrun 2.
Its about the only GameFaqs forum worth visiting thanks to him occasionally dropping by and giving fans whatever information he's able to.

...they had C2C/2006 on the Xbox?? I have never seen a copy in the wild; only for the ps2/psp. If I had ever seen it, I would've bought it for sure since I played the hell out of OutRun 2 for my Xbox! It's honestly probably my fave Xbox 1 game. Yeah its pretty rare, but I was lucky and managed to find it for the cool price of only $10 at Gamespot recently. Awesome game too as I was worried it would be too similar to Outrun 2, but it has all new tracks and new game modes. The two together give me all the Outrun my heart desires.

It was basically a online exclusive, I've only seen one used copy at a GameStop.
I ordered mine from Wal-Mart when it was first released.
You do realize the 15 Outrun 2 tracks are on Coast 2 Coast? Its not all new tracks, only the 15 tracks from Outrun 2 SP are new, the 15 outrun 2 tracks are included as well. You have to press a button to switch to them when your in arcade mode I believe (Some people never realized this...). You only need Outrun 2 for the original arcade game and the Daytona/Scud Race bonus tracks, and I suppose the missions were unique (Something I never ventured too deep into for either game, I stuck to just running the arcade modes over and over :)).
Not sure if its been mentioned, but have any of you given GTI Club+ a try on PSN? Sumo Digital did a excellent job giving that classic Konami arcade a racer a modern redo on the PS3.

There's already a thread this, but it's a regional thing. Outrun 2006 C2C (xbox) is much more common in my area that it seems to be in the states. I had no problem finding my copy and I went to EB Games tonight and they had a copy in their used section.
Wow, just found out about this. When's it coming to PSN?

The PS3 version supposedly isn't being released in the US for some reason. I'd rather not buy it for 360, since I refuse to pay for Xbox Live, so I'll just do without it unless I decide to bother buying it from the UK or Hong Kong PSN.

Outrun 2006 basically included all the tracks from both the Outrun 2 arcade game and the Outrun 2 SP arcade game and then Sumo created a load of new Flagman and heart attack challenges and included a ton of unlockables. This new DLC version is more of a straight port of Outrun 2 SP. So there wont be the flagman challenges, as many songs. I think the 15-stage continuous mode is still in there though.

Is that because you think you have to have live to buy it, or you're just generally indisposed towards avoiding XBLA games because you hate the Live in general kind of thing?
(Every 360 has, by default, silver membership on XBL. As such you can download stuff without paying a dime to MS. That's how they inflate their Live numbers - they never mention how many people pay for the right to play others on the network, they simply tout how many 360s have been connected to the internet basically...)

I have several XBLA titles, I'm well aware of the free Silver membership. I meant that I don't want to buy it for 360 because if I wanted to play it online, I wouldn't be able to. This is one of the reasons I buy multiplatform games on PS3, aside from preferring the controller.

What I did was make an account and pick Hong Kong as your country. This way everything is still in English and they have PSN cards unlike Europe. Then grab a PSN card off eBay. You may want to wait until after it is released. I bought a Hong Kong PSN card but I am not 100% positive its going to be at Hong Kong PSN store, just assuming.

Its a stupid review.
Its just a HD release of Outrun 2 SP (No Outrun 2 tracks), so of course graphics aren't really going to be updated or there isn't going to be much new content. The arcade title ran on what was basically Xbox hardware with more ram, so we're just getting a version that's rendering at a higher resolution. Its going to look like what we already had since they were basically porting what we already had. Its not a new entry in the series, its just bringing what already existed to a new platform. The review should've been focusing on the accuracy of the port and the fun factor of the title, imo.
Its for the fans that loved the Outrun 2 titles and wanted a hd port of it that runs on their current generation consoles and for people new to the series, its not for people that had their fill of Outrun 2 with the past two releases and are going into this one wanting something more from the game. And if you never played any of the Outrun 2 titles, you'd love it I'd say. You'll only be experiencing half of the tracks in the series, but its not flawed and it never looked better, its running at a higher res than it did in the arcade even. If anything, I bet you like it so well that you'll want to track down copies of Outrun 2 and Outrun Coast 2 Coast for the Xbox afterwards to experience the other half of the tracks and do the different missions each has (Plus the two bonus courses that were unlockables in Outrun 2).
Its a port of Outrun 2 SP, its not Outrun 3. His review makes about as much sense if you want a analagy to it as a reviewer criticizing a rerelease of Robotron 2084 because new enemies weren't added or that Geometry Wars is prettier. He wasn't using the correct criteria to grade the title if you ask me.

just play the original games on the 360 the emulation is good and its up scaled and rendered at 720p.
This is a better deal for ps3 owners since it would be the best ver to play on a sony system.
you have the psp and ps2 ports but they never looked or ran as good as on the 360.
The ps3 scaler can not even compare to the 360 rendering every thing at a true 720p.

So it's finally out on XBLA today. Anyone get it yet? I've heard a few people on GameFAQs complain about the frame rate dropping in certain parts but it doesn't sound like a deal breaker to me.
Also, anyone know if Outrun is compatible with the wheel controller?
Leo_A
04-15-2009, 10:03 PM
I have it, and its fully compatible with the MS wireless wheel.
I've also read and posted in those GameFaqs threads, and every issue mentioned is either not noticeable (Such as slow loading of the scenery for the Milky Way stage, seemed to load normally), multiplayer issues like invisible scenery (played multiple matches that went without a single hitch), and a smooth frame rate.
I noticed the occasional hiccup in the frame rate that I think would be unnoticeable enough where I wouldn't of even picked up on it if I hadn't been looking for it. I think some of the issues like the failure to load scenery might be a sign a few of those forum members have a RROD coming up soon for their consoles, imo.
I think its worthy of the 800 points. I'd of loved a more comprehensive release collecting every track, mission, music track, and so on from Outrun 2 and its Xbox bonus content and Outrun Coast 2 Coast (As I recall, each of the three releases had some exclusive content).
So basically my only complaint is that I wished we had got all the content so far that's been created for Outrun 2. Maybe in DLC...

I've played it for a little bit and like it so far. Feels basically like a stripped down version of Outrun 2 but I don't mind because it was only 800 points and it's in 720p.
Didn't notice any frame rate issues but the online portion seems real half assed. Every lobby I joined I was waiting in for at least 5 minutes waiting for the game to start. When the race finally started, I was stuck at the starting line for about 15 seconds because the 2 cars in front of me would not move and I had to slowly plow thru them.
Another strange thing that happened to me in an online race is that when I made my first turn at one of the forks, the game completely glitched and the road disappeared. I don't know if this was because we were supposed to race a certain route but if so, why weren't the other paths blocked off??
