Specifically, I'm wondering about the differences between the Mega CD, 32X and Jaguar version.

I will say, that the Jaguar and 32X edition look and feel identical. The Mega CD edition has a very superb quality soundtrack, but looks just like the Genesis version.

If I remember correctly, the locations/ability to play the 2600 version are in different locations or the code to play it are different.

As far as difference in levels, I don't know of any, but I am sure there are, at least, some minor ones.

I know the OP didn't ask about the GBA port, but IIRC, that version doesn't include the first Pitfall! game as a bonus (it probably has something to do with the fact that it was published by Majesco).

Wikipedia says that the Sega and Windows ports have "extra" levels...??

My brother and I once tested the Jaguar and Sega CD versions side by side... the CD actually loaded the levels quicker than the Jag cart. We were baffled.

The PC version (and presumably the SNES version) have a lot more colors than the Mega CD version. I can't say whether the 32X or Jag versions look the same, though. (The PC version also has the same audio tracks as the Mega CD version, of course.)

The Mega CD version also features the obligatory, blurry, and entirely superfluous FMV intro.

Well, the 32X version has a zipline level not in any other version, I can tell you that.

thanks...

using emulators, it seems like the level backgrounds for the 32x and jaguar versions are slightly different, and the jaguar music instruments sound a bit better to me.

The Jag definitely has better sound than the Genesis or 32X. The Jag can also display a lot more colors on screen than the 32X. Although it would be hard to tell much of a difference.

On that note, I find this game to be pretty hard and annoying.
