Does anyone have the launch version of Final Fantasy VII? If you do could you look and see if it has the misprint of "Masterpiece" on the back of the game. I want to know if it was the first print run of the game that has the misprint or if it was a later run.

Lol, you are right. On my case the "i" is miss-printed above the "er" in masterpiece, and a blank spot between "p e" where the "i" should go. Haha.

That's the one I want! You didn't even know you had it! That's cool that you have that version :fist: and I don't!

My version has that error. I got it for christmas '97, so I think it's from the original print run.

Hey I just checked Dangerboy's site: http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/releasedgames/final_fantasy_vii/index.html
He says that the misprint was in the second printing of the game, so I have the first run. Now I have to hunt down the misprinted one!

Just be prepared to pay a hefty sum-- the misprints usually sell for an unnecessary amount more, especially considering that it's only a small portion that's out-of-whack. I'd love to have any black-label FF7, but for some godbeknownst reason, they've doubled in price sometime in the last year. It's just plain silly.

To be honest the misprint version doesn't give a big price boost as you'd expect. Most people don't even know of the misprint and its fairly easy to com across so you wont be paying more for it than you would a standard CIB black label FF7.

Really? See, I only looked for it once, and the only one I found was really expensive. However, I was also searching under the assumption that it would be listed as "misprint" instead of looking for someone who failed to notice. Point taken, though: most folks wouldn't realize that they had it. I just happened upon someone who did, and who was trying to capitalize on that fact.
Good luck with your search, anyway.

Didn't know these were misprinted but I just checked mine and I've got the one where the airship picture is replaced by Sephiroth. Weird.
Oh great.......something else to keep an eye out for! LOL

I'd think they'd be worth less since they're not "first edition" but maybe the error overcomes that fact and boosts it on up. I looked this up when I found out my friend had the misprint and I had the regular one, and we had to know whose was better. We settled on mine :P

Whoah.. do they really go for a hundred bucks or something? I know I got 2 original FF 7's because I bought one at launch, and then my girlfriend at the time bought me another as a gift thinking I didn't have it. So it aint even opened. Hmmmmmm.....

The misprint ones are easy enough to find on ebay. If you type in "Final Fantasy VII Black" it'll bring up all the black lable (original) copies, and every other one seems to have that misprint.

Why does it matter if you have the misprint or not? It's not even like anybody but yourself would notice. Maybe it's just me but that seems pointless.

You do know a large focus of this site is about collecting don't you?
Often, some of the most pointless things turn out to be nicely collectible :p

I'm also a collector but that just seems OCD. I like my collection to have a nice visual appearance but this goes beyond visual appearance. My brain just can't figure out why that would matter. That's like when people scrub their toilet because they swear that they see dirt but to everybody else there is nothing there. Or people who constantly wash their hands to the point of their skin cracking from them being so dry just because they think that the germs will kill them. I guess that means that I am in the majority on this site but it's still my opinion on the matter. I could see why somebody would want the black label over the Greatest hits because that has a visual appearance but nobody will notice the misprint. Hell people on this site didn't even notice it and they owned it.

FYI, clean toliets are a good thing.

Aren't there like 4 or 5 different misprint versions of FF7?

They sure are. That's why I make sure to buy a new toilet once a month to replace the old dirty one. I just can't seem to scrub all of the killer germs off so I just destroy their base of operations and replace it with a new one. That only lasts until the new germs grow enough germ soldiers and start plotting my demise.
PS: I was just going through my PS1 games after reading this to see what case I had and it wasn't the misprint. I was hoping that it would have been so that I could have sold it for 2x the ammount. I did happen to find my copy of FF8 that I thought that I sold. I did put it back in with my collection even though that game will never be played again.

The reason it holds more value are conversations like this. It's a silly misprint, that only exists on one of the most sought after games in the world (Final Fantasy VII in it's original black lable) something that has sold for over 500 dollars on ebay sealed... without misprint. Now you ask yourself, which would you rather have, the rare game with the misprint, or the rare game without the misprint. Most people would take the silly misprint. Because of this, and how well known the misprint is, the misprinted copy becomes worth more. Some people soley collect misprints (which is beyond me, but it takes all kinds :) )But in this case, if someone is paying 200 dollars for the game, they'll throw in an extra 50 to make it a conversation peice as well, to collectors (who know of the misprint) as well as your every day joe/jane.

Well if I had the misprint one then I would gladely trade it to somebody for one that doesn't have it and have them tack on some extra cash. It would be free money. In the case of the two I would rather have the non misprint since it would be cheaper and look just as nice in my collection.

Does anyone know how rare the GH version with the double Sephiroth pic. is? Maybe Papastu or Dangerboy could tell me :wink 2:
