The fourth and final of Microsoft's weekly Xbox Live Marketplace holiday deals (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xblm-holiday-deal-of-the-week) is none other than the original Halo: Combat Evolved (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved). Major Nelson has announced (http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/12/22/this-weeks-deal-halo-combat-evolved.aspx) that the franchise-launching, system-selling FPS will be available for 600http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif ($7.50) starting tomorrow, Wednesday, December 23 for Xbox Live Gold members. Its usual going price is 1200http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif ($15).

When the history of video games eventually becomes mainstream college curriculum, Halo will the "required playing" equivalent of War and Peace. You can get ahead of the curve - or make sure you're as hip as those young whippersnappers - for one week only. Last week's deal, Bomberman Live (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bomberman-live), is available until midnight tonight at the half-price sum of 600http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif ($7.50).

Will they add the online component from the PC is my main question, don't see why they wouldn't.

I used to play Halo on the original Xbox through GameSpy Tunnel back in the day and lemme tell ya, Halo 1 was great online! PC version be damned, i'm talking on the console with a controller. Was much better online game than 2 or 3 imo, oh yeah, offline too. :D

I have a question for these old xbox games you can download to the 360..did microsoft add achievements to these games or something?

No to the first question, and no to the second.

Nope, they're just like the original disc equivalents.

Nope, it's just the original data from the original disc running through the same backwards compatibility layer that you normally use to play the physical game. They also haven't added in any achievements and they have no plans to ever do so. Their reasoning is kind of bullshit (they don't want to dilute the original gameplay experience by addingin achievements); it's pretty obvious the only reason why they don't add them in is because it wouldn't pay off enough to matter.

It's nice that they're offering up the service, at least. There's a good number of Xbox cult classics available on it, so you can tell that at least someone in the selection process is in touch with the community (as opposed to, say, the people in charge of the PS1 selection on the US PSN). The pricing scheme is just a little wonky ($15 for Halo, Fable and Fusion Frenzy when they've previously been $10 Best of Platinum Hits releases?), but it's still a neat little component to XBL.

But hey, $7.50 for Halo? Neat for people that haven't played it before. Total impulse buy price point there.

I once discovered i owned 8 copies of halo 1 for the xbox... That was a sad realization.

Generally every xbox i bought off of ebay came with a copy.

Did the thread get moved? I didn't even know we had this subsection in this forum until I became puzzled where this thread went.

Too bad, now hardly anyone will even see it probably.

Or maybe I saw it listed as the latest post on the forum index, and found my way to it that way.

It belongs here, so I hope I didn't sound like I was complaining too badly. I just wonder how many visit here?

I should start checking this out now that I know its here, in case any good deals pop up...
