Does anyone know for certain if Activision was the publisher and developer of Cyborg Hunter for the Master System? The packaging for the game and numerous websites I have consulted have conflicting information. Some say that Activision only distributed the game while others give credit to Activision and/or Sega for publishing and/or developing the game.

Thanks!

Activision only published it in the US.

I just checked the title screen of the Japanese version, Chou-on Senshi Borgman. It lists the copyright holders of the original anime series the game was based on (NTV and Toho), and Sega. Given that, I think it's safe to say that Sega developed it.

The Japanese Bomberman similarly credits Sega, while Activision released it in the USA. If you look at the Euro releases for those two, as well as Rampage and Galaxy Force (again both Activision in the USA), the packaging also only mentions SEGA for both.

This the copy I just had on ebay,it didn't sell as I figured it would of as it always seemed unusual to me with it's packaging ..
Seems noone wants them as I figured they would.

Actually, I would have bought it if it was listed several years ago when I was building up my collection of games I did not buy when the SMS was still in production.

I've seen this question asked several times at different places. I don't know why this game is such a mystery to everyone. It says right in the manual, "Cyborg Hunter was developed by Sega Enterprises, Ltd." It's certainly not the only Sega-developed game to have been published by a different publisher in the US.

Now, as to whether Activision "published" it in the US or merely "distributed" it, I couldn't tell you, as I'm not really sure what the distinction is.

Activision was pretty much the publisher. Former Activision producer Tom Sloper talked about this when I interviewed him (http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Interview:Tom_Sloper). Releasing these games was basically part of a deal hatched between Sega and Activision to try and break Nintendo's stranglehold on third parties.
