I'm not talking about minigames (which are common), and I'm not talking about game compilations, or games in which you can unlock another game and select it from a menu. I'm talking about games that, in the course of playing the game, you can play another game. I can think of a few examples. Probably the most famous one is Shenmue (and its sequel), where you can go into the arcade and play Hang-On or Space Harrier. In Day of the Tentacle, you can find a computer with Maniac Mansion on it, and play it. In Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, you can play the original Pitfall. In Pac-Man 2, you can go to an arcade and play Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man (SNES) or Pac-Jr. (Genesis).
Anything else like these? It doesn't necessarily have to have been a pre-existing game, but I guess it has to be optional (otherwise it's not really a separate game, it's just part of the game), and it shouldn't be a minigame, although I guess there are borderline cases and there's not a concrete definition of "minigame". But, yeah.

The arcade games in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas come to mind (though they're short and repetitive enough that they feel like minigames).
Donkey Kong 64 - with the original arcade DK - also came to mind, but I can't remember if you can play the original DK in-game, or if you just unlock it.
In PGR2 or 3 you can play Geometry Wars.

Not sure if it counts, but Adventures of Willy Beamish (Sega CD version) has a Quarth-like game you play on his Nintari system.

If you count Home as a 'game', there are various places you can walk up to, be it a arcade or property and play a full fledged game, usually puzzle. Once you have the Namco Museum Home edition, you'll be able to earn arcade machines for your home, and really play it.
Granted it was hidden, but anytime on the ship in Final Fantasy I you could open up a slider puzzle game. Completing the game in the PSX version gave you bonus items depending on the quickness of it.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention Animal Crossing. You can collect NES systems and play classic games.
There's also Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, there's a tv you can interact with to play a pong clone. You can also play a root beer tapper mini game, but it's not the same thing because you don't interact with any sort of in game arcade. It's just Larry running around delivering beers.
I also want to say that Prey had an interactive arcade machine at the beginning of the game when you're in your grandfather's bar.
Little Computer People has 'poker (well, it's more of a mini-game really)
Spycraft The Great Game has Shanghai (Activision)
Space Rogue has an arcade machine you can play (forgot the games name)
Lynx game Electro Cop has some accessable games

Death Tank Zwei is great, but doesn't really fit the bill for this thread as it is an unlockable game that you select from a menu rather than a game that you play within the main game. Same is true of Death Tank.
Surprised no-one has mentioned Final Fantasy VII yet, where there's a whole bunch of games you can play in the arcade. Can't remember them all, but one of them was a Road Rash clone.

The Warriors has it's own arcade game within. The Gottlieb and Namco PSX collections let you walk around a virtual arcade. Wario Ware series has all kinds of unlockable games.
The NFL and NBA 2K series have Cribs that you can purchase different games for.

The Mystical Ninja series on the SNES had arcade machines to play such as Gradius.
Within Iridis Alpha for the C64 by Jeff Minter, pausing the game brought up another game called Deflex. Pause THAT and you got another game of sorts! :p

Yup, it had the arcade version of donkey kong that could play in the factory level or in a selection on the menu. Early Rare game Jetpac was also in DK64.
I personally think people are still listing a lot of minigames :hmm: ... Virtua Fighter and Tekken would have unlockable older versions of themselves in later games, but they weren't true emulations

It might just be considered a minigame, but I just remembered Beetle Mania in Super Mario RPG, which you can play after you purchase a portable unit (it's been a long time since I last played SMRPG, so I can't remember if it's a Game Boy or not).

Xenosaga, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy 9 had card game mini games within the games. XenoCard, Triple Triad, and Tetra Master. All three games are large enough to be their own games that you could end up spending alot of time on. XenoCard being 2 player made it so much better.
Xenosaga 3 has a puzzle based game with a ton of levels to complete. I think it even has a creator in which you can create your own puzzle based stages(I'm not entirely sure, haven't played it in awhile.)
Dracula X Chronicles has where you can unlock Symphony of the Night, Rondo of Blood, and Akumajou Dracula Peke(Rondo of Blood but without the upgrade on the PCE to play it.) The PSP version of SotN is also the best version, so definitely worth getting.
Mega Man ZX Advent has a new classic style Mega Man game in it.
Contra 4 has Contra and Super C.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon, while being a terrible game like every MK game after MKTrilogy, has a few games depending on the version. If you have the special edition it comes with MK3, action/adventure game, and a racing game, while the normal version comes with the action/adventure and racing games. All of them, including the main game, incomplete games except for MK3.
A ton of games have video poker or slots in them, like Legend of Legaia, Dragon Warrior 7, Dragion Quest 8, Xenosaga, Breath of Fire3, etc. Revelations Persona has pretty much a full set of Casino games(it's like playing Super Caesar's Palace minus a few games on Persona.)
One of my favorite series and forgot so I'm editing. The entire Breath of Fire series aside from BoF Dragon Quarter has some sortof fishing game in it. Whether it's the original game which you just find a spot and a random number generator tells you whether you get it, or the second game where you can actually see the fish there. But then there's Breath of Fire 3 and 4. These two games have actual full fishing games, and not just something you'd brush off like the Legend of Legaia fishing game. It also keeps note of every single fish you've caught, the weight, and the score for the fish, so getting the very best of each kindof fish, all the way up to fishing for Sharks(a little unbelievable yes,) can net you quite a high ranking. Don't forget to trade those rare and hard to get fish with Manillo for some great items(and just like in BoF2, you also have to fish and catch him too.)

No, it had one round of Galaxian. Tekken had one round of Galaga and Ridge Racer Revolution had a bonus round of Galaga '89.

Blob Ball is amusing. I recommend finding something with a timer on it and having a little contest between a friend or two to see who can keep the ball away from the spikes for the longest amount of time.

-I thought so, too  Weren't you supposed to win like 200 times in a row in versus mode?
-Don't forget Super Mario Bros 3 on NES. It contained Mario Bros when you selected the same space as your plumber brother.

The glitched areas that you needed the sword brothers attack to get are actually removed from the PSP version. In addition, the PSP version has re-casted voice acting and the script is re-worked. It's a little more believable now, but damn if I don't miss "What is a man but a pathetic pile of secrets? But enough talk. Have at you!" In fact, I think it was better before.
People are really quick to say it's the best version because you can play as Maria, but it's NOT the Saturn version. It's the Japanese PS1 version with a few tweaks and perks. My fiancee' is the absolute goddess queen of SotN and knows every nook and cranny of it--she states that the PSP version has changes in the frequency and types of items dropped by enemies. All items in the shop are also open to you from the moment you start the game (ie-you needn't save $10,000 just to see the duplicator in the menu-it's there from the time you start the game).
I think a lot of the reasoning for these differences is that the game was tweaked a lot for content and difficulty before the original U.S. release in '98, so the PSP version reflects what Japanese gamers have been experiencing for 10 years already.

The Saturn version blows to be honest(not really blows, but in comparison to the all the other versions.) Maria on the PSP version is actually like her Rondo version and not some sortof Ninja Mega Man. That's just one thing better about it.
Also, while I do miss the opening translation from SotN(doesn't everyone,) the entire overall translation of SotN PSP is much better. Listen to the Alucard/Succubus scene and then the scene off the PSP version, that right there already makes the voice acting infinitely times better than the PSX version.

Oh...that trick! We've heard about that but have never been able to complete it. The sword brothers trick is what you use to get 230%. You use it in certain parts of the chapel and you can get outside the walls. You start filling in map area with white squares and your clear % increases. You don't really get anything for it, but it's a neat trick. That for sure didn't work when we tried it on the PSP.

No.
He is talking about as soon as the gate closes, you can dash back as Alucard or run back as Richter (I have no clue on Maria) and you will fall through the gate that is one the ground into a underground passageway that contains only a savepoint. Also, as Richter, if you immediately slide to the left as the gate closes, you can make it out and go explore the forest and outside gate area... with some really amusing glitches.

Ok, you made me dig into my filing cabinet of cheats ripped from mags. I found it in an old EGM2 issue (not sure which issue, but it was part one of their SOTN strategy guide...page 98, if it matters). It reads as follows:
"There is evidence that a level from the game may have been cut from the final release. When starting the game as Richter, press back as soon as the game starts. You should fall through the gate. The screen will flash, but you can get things back to normal by doing special moves. What's strange is that it leads to three new rooms, including a save point. Even more interesting is that the grate opens..."
So, I had the trick slightly wrong, as I thought it was done with Alucard by running very fast to the left or something. But anyway, yeah, that's how you get there. I've always wondered if these hidden rooms looked the same in the Saturn version where they have that extra level there (I think that's where it is).

Dark Savior for the Saturn has a really cool space craft game that the main character can play if you walk up to the toy set in the kid's room at the start of the game. Basically you fly around collecting orbs, trying not to hit the walls (otherwise you are forced to restart from the beginning). The game has over 20 levels and a savable high score, so it's more than just a mini-game. It's just one of the many quirks that makes Dark Savior one of the best RPGs on the Saturn.

Animal crossing had many an NES game in it (at least the GCN version did).
Star wars Rouge Squadron 3 contained all of the RS 2 levels (sort of counts, right?)
Shenmue had some arcade games in it.
Metroid Prime contains teh original Metroid (as did Metroid Zero Mission).
E.T. contained Pong...I think...
all I can think of for now.

Includes the original Rampage, plus Rampage: World Tour.
Is the original Rampage also on the ps2 version of this game?, or did the wii version get special treatment? Just wondering, as i might want to pick this game up then. :)
Timesplitters 2 had Anaconda, AstroLander, and RetroRacer.
Where these from other game systems? Noob question i know, fill me in. :)
Tekken 5 on ps2 includes the arcade versions of the first three tekken games. Also the ps1 version of tekken has galaga in it.

Too bad the music & voices were changed in those games.
An arcade perfect port would have made playing through that turd "Battle Nexus" worth the effort.
