Just wondering if you guys buy a huge amount of games like I do.

I've already bought 5 this week, and about 40 last week because of a huge lot.

It's an addiction. >_>

I usually stick to a dollar amount when I go shopping rather than a number of games. I haven't gone out in a while, but when I did I usually stuck to around $25 dollars, and I would go out every other week.

Add up how many I get during the year and divide by 52, about 3 a week. It really depends on my luck during garage sale season. New game wise, about 10 a year.

Depends, really.

I have a budget every month on gaming stuff. Sometimes that money gets blown in a single day of ebay shopping. Other times it drags on. Now, within the last week I've probably bought 10 games or so. :P

It varies every week. But fellow DP member DigitalSpace buys like 4-8 games a day, so I'm sure that gets rounded up to like a thousand a week.

I have weeks that I don't buy a game.

Maybe 1/2 a game a week? 1/4 of a game when things are tight :)

That really depends. Sometimes I'm saving up for a rare game and I can't buy anything for a month or two... while others I'll run into a lot of 20 games on ebay or a yard sale for 20 bucks, and I'll pick it up without thinking twice. The real question is how much money is spent (as there's a huge difference in quality/quantity when it comes to games) (IE, you can buy 50 copies of the legend of zelda for nes for 10 dollars a cart, or you can "buy it now" one of the sealed 500 dollar copies)

Money spent when i have it is about 10-25 a week.

No set ammount. It's different every week.

I go based on the deals I find and the budget I have. I normally get around 5-10 a week on average I guess.

If my DB averages are correct, then it's roughly 6 per week.

It depends on how much the stores I go to have. Sometimes I get nothing.

I just can't control myself when i see a game that i like :S

I usually acquire 1-2 games per week. I could easily find a lot more but I don't like having a bunch of games around that I never play. As a result, I try to trade in 1-2 games per week at one place or another to help balance things. This prevents my collection from becoming too bloated.

Example:

During a recent week, I acquired:
-NCAA Football 2004 for PS2
-MLB 2006 for PS2

To offset the addition of the above titles, during the same week I traded in:
-NBA Jam TE (Genesis)
-MLB 2004 (Playstation 2)

NBA Jam TE is fun as hell but bottom line is that each hour I spend playing that is one less hour I get to spend playing like 40 other games I could be spending time with. Only so many hours in a day. And I sure as heck can't bring myself to let NBA Jam TE sit around collecting dust since the game is too addicting. So I traded it into our local used game store.

All that means, though, is that I will end up buying and playing a different copy of NBA Jam TE which I am surely going to see in Goodwill or Salvation Army sooner or later anyway. So it isn't like I am saying goodbye forever. And when I find that next copy, I'll just trade in something else to make room for another copy of NBA Jam TE for a few months until I trade it in again.

It all depends on what I find while thrift store shopping, and what machine they're for. I'm not a Nintendo fan, so unless it's a really unusual game, I'll leave it be. If I come across Atari games, I have to find something I don't already have, which tends to be difficult. Anything from the 16-bit era onward, I only find sports games. And I don't trust buying PS1 games that are scotch-taped up anymore, since I've been burned a few times when I open the jewel case and find something other than what's supposed to be in there (and once, no disc in the case but with a thick manual making it feel full).

I'd buy more stuff if I could come across it in the wild, but there's so many eBay douchebags who scoop up anything classic game related just to flip online, it's getting pretty damn difficult to locate anything anymore.

Depends if money is tight one game for the month that's it.Now if i'm doing ok 3 to 4 games or more when i find good deals for it.

Many, if I buy in bulk (bought a big Super Famicom lot this week, 100+ games, cheap). Few, if I buy singly.

If I stay off the auction sites, I buy maybe 1-2 games a week on average. With the bulk deals, um...

I used to be that way...doubt that I ever bought something every week but I did used to buy an awful lot, getting them in bunches sometimes. Now I sometimes go a few months without buying any.

As you put it yourself, if I come across a lot, the amount of games per week increases dramatically. But generally speaking I don't pick up a lot (1-2 games) a week, as I rarely buy new games. I only pick up new ones if something nice from a series I collect comes out (Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc).

snes_collector
12-27-2008, 07:44 AM
It used to be 1 or 2 a week. Now it's like one or two every couple of months.

I don't know how you guys even find 6-7 games week unless you buy them from ebay or gamestores. I haven't seen hardly any games at the thrifts this year, let alone ones worth buying.

Like others have said, it varies. I collect Atari so I only buy atari or other classics if I know I can flip them in a trade. I've gotten a couple hundred in the last few months but that should drop off dramatically because I'm almost at the point of where I want to be with my collection but will pick up a game here or there if its a good deal.

It greatly depends, usually on how much money I got. Since I am only 15 and don't have a license, I can't drive to any thrift stores to find games, but during Garage Sale season I go with a relative and find tons of games. The number can range from 0 to 100, but during the off season the number is 1 or 2 a week. New games are extremely rare, and I have only gotten 3 or 4 this year.

I used to be crazy. One time I picked up something like 60+ PS1 games for $15 - $20 total.

Now, I'm lucky if I get 20 games in an entire year.

DVD / HD-DVD / Blu-Ray / Laserdisc purchases, now that is another story..... I have spent $1,500 + in 2008 on movies.

I have aquired a large game collection of 6500 titles, and used to buy 100s of games at a time becasue I just walked into several deals. I was at the right place at the right time. Now that I have a family, my budget is limited and set at $40 a month. I use that money to buy at thrifts to flip on ebay when I have a chance, but usually I am only buying 2-5 games a month. With Christmas and my Birthday, I get additional money to either mod a system or buy some rare stuff. In the end, I am adding about 100 selective games to my library this past year. I plan on documenting in detail what I spend, sell and buy this next year

I used to buy games like crazy, I've slowed down to one every so many weeks or months now. Why? I'm not as into games as I once was, Plus goodwill hasn't been so hot lately. I think the last game I bought was Left 4 Dead and that was perhaps 3 weeks ago.

Most weeks? Probably none. If you average out what I get over the course of an entire year, then it's probably 1 a week, or 2 tops. I doubt I've had many years in which I added much more than a hundred games to my collection.

I'll buy MAYBE two to four games per month that I would classify as a real purchase. I wouldn't count anything under, say $8, since I usually have a few bucks in my pocket. I haven't hit the thrifts in a month, but my average find costs $2, and I'm lucky to find one or two per trip.

I find myself being in a dry season for new game purchases quite often, then a few things come out that actually interest me. When I'm hitting the thrifts on a schedule, I'm getting at least one game each week. Ultimately, it depends on whether I'm in a mood to spend money, and whether it's $2 or $20. I had a week back in August I believe, where I found one game a day for 6 days in a row. After that, things slowed down. Once my classes start up this next semester, I'll be passing these two thrifts every day, so I'm sure I'll be going for high-quantity low-cost finds.

Music, on the other hand, I can go crazy with. After discovering the joys of $1/album vinyl, I've been jumping at every chance I get. I know a thrift that absolutely BLOWS for games (they have a stack of $70 PS2s sitting there), but they have a whole wall of vinyl, and I always find some good dance/new-wave stuff.

I would buy around 20-30 a week.

Unfortunately, this has stopped due to recent economic restraints. And I am pretty sure I will not buy any games for months...I fear maybe for at least a year. :(

I have discovered the wonderful world of cheap last-gen gaming. Sub-$10 (Canadian) Cube, Xbox and PS2 games, with the majority of them going for under $5. One of our local used shops had a massive last-gen Christmas sale for Nov and Dec with PS2 going for $3 and Xbox going for half price. All in all, I bought about 60 games across all consoles. On boxing day another store had select PS3, 360 and PSP games 2 for $20. Yep....two for twenty bux. I had to ask the staff if I was reading the sign correctly. It was late in the day but I picked up the last 6 decent games and left the sports games for everyone else!

You don't come across these prices everyday. My usual habits are 4 or 5 cheap games a month. Current gen doesn't get bought unless it's either AAA or a good used copy.

For me, it varies on what is available at the time. Maybe about 7-8 months out of the year I'm traveling and I don't buy many games around then. But when I'm home, it's open season. So I'm probably averaging about 1-2 a week.

Gunface
12-31-2008, 02:38 PM
I also do the same thing jdc does. Last gen gaming is awesome because it's in that small window of time where few people care about the games and they're readily available. It's funny how a game will drop in price during that time, only to sky rocket years later.

It used to range from two to three games a week. Now it's 0 games a week aside from certain times when a game I've been waiting for comes out.

However, there are sometimes like a month ago where I end up going on a spree and buying a bunch of games that I don't have that I was interested in getting but not interested enough to pay full price for. Most games I've bought in a week was around 20.

Agreed. I pretty much gave up collecting and starting ebaying off a lot of my stuff. Then I noticed how cheap GameCube, PS2 and XBOX games and hardware are, and the collecting bug bit me again. I'm trying to snap up all the really fun titles for cheap before the secondary market absorbs them and their prices stabilize or rise slowly. The fact that the economy sucks right now helps hasten the process of most people getting rid of their last-gen stuff, too. I got an Xbox with 18 complete games off ebay for $55! Granted, they're mostly the crappy movie licensed games....
