I bought an HD DVD Player for the Xbox 360 for my sister. It seems to play fine for a while and then shuts itself off (in the middle of a movie). I checked google and don't see a history of this type of problem. I bought it used and tested it out and it seemed fine to me before I sent it. So now I feel bad that I sent her this gift which does not seem to work consistently.
Anyone have any idea what might cause this? or a solution besides look for a new Xbox 360 HD DVD Player?

I have 2 units...and knock on wood... mine doesnt do this. Do you have it in a spot where it might be getting overheated? Are they known to shut themselves off after overheating? Try a different outlet? Is it on all disks or just one? Just some thoughts.
Good luck but I havent heard of any issues with them powering off.

I asked her if it was in a well ventilated area and she said yes. It shut itself off while watching 2 different movies. I asked her to try a few more. I was thinking the power cord may be shorting it out. But where would/could I find a replacement. She seems to think she could walk into Gamestop and find a replacement power supply for it. I am thinking it may be overheating or something like that because it seems to work for a while and then shut itself off.

To me it sounds like its overheating/shutting itself off. Did she install the software before hooking it up? I know the new NXE lets you plug and play with the HD DVD player, or atleast my new arcade unit did but I havent got around to watching a whole DVD.
It could possibly be the power cord. As for finding it at gamestop... Its possible but I havent seen an HD DVD player in my local gamestop in awhile. She might be better off taking the cord with her and trying a few and seeing if they have one in the back. She may also have luck at an electronics store(Assuming you want her to get the power cord, not the power brick).
Let me know if I can help anymore. More than willing to pull my HD DVD player out and take photos or get specs on my stuff.
