It's that time of year again, folks... Time to pretend that we're going to change our ways and improve ourselves for the new year! Of course, we're going to focus on gaming in this thread, since that's what DP is for.
What are your 'gaming resolutions' for 2009?
Mine are:
1) Finish more than ten percent of the games I buy
2) Reach an all-time Remixed rank of 1000 or better on HD Remix
3) Finally acquire a Wii(for retail price, not a dollar more)
4) Beat Singe at HD Remix so badly that he not only dies a little bit on the inside, but refuses to touch a PS3 controller ever again lest he get the shakes and start to cry.
5) Sell off the consoles I don't use anymore
6) Start playing games other than fighting games online
Hows about you?

1600x1200.
oh wait the other kind. well i already did my good deed of pre-oredering and prepaying for both onechanbara games and retro game master, so I suppose my main one will be to finish those three games.
i'd kind of like to get a psp sometime next year. and maybe hit 20k gamerscore. we'll see.

I resolve to master the fine art of buzz. In related news Psyvariar 2 is kicking my ass! LOL
Other gaming related resolutions;
-Finish my US cart collection for SMS, NES, GEN, SNES, TG16 and N64.
-Figure out how to navigate yahoo japan well enough and score a proxy so I can start pulling down some imports at good prices.
-Play more games... if I buy it I must play it within a few weeks or sell it. Unless I purchased it to sell/trade sooner or later.
-Set up game room. This is going on third year of stagnation... I will not be stymied like this any longer!
-If I can find the time, build a MAME custom cocktail for said game room. One set of controls on the short side for verts and another on the long side for horis. Shmups, fighters, beat em ups and classics. Joy!

Gaming is a chore for me. Alot of games I used to love in the past I actually dislike now. I love gaming, but I love talking about it more than playing them.
Anyways. Gaming resolutions for me? Start replaying through every game I own and atleast beat 200 of them in 2009. This will be hard since I don't play much anymore and most are RPGs.

1: Modernize my game setup. (HDTV, PS3, etc.)
2: Play current-gen games on my current-gen systems. For the past two years, I have used my PSP for little more than NES/SNES/TG-16 emulation. My Wii titles are gathering dust while I use my Wii to play through Earthbound for the first time. I'm too easily drawn back to retro gaming. Either I genuinely do not enjoy modern gamage, or I too quickly return to familiarity when I reach a frustrating stage in a modern title.

Finish all of the excellent games that I'm hovering around 80-90% completion.
Notably:
Metal Gear Solid 4
Bionic Commando Re-Armed
Mega Man 9
Gears of War
Twilight Princess
With the standard post-holiday gaming "drought" of the next few months, this is definitely the time to do it!

I hope to play my games more.
I would guess I have played games two-five hours a week on average over the past few months. I also probably spend spend 5-10 hours on the internet for every hour spent gaming. I need to play more.
I already bought a nice new 2600 controller, and I ordered 2 rebuilt 5200 controllers last night. Hopefully those will be incentive to get me started.
Another one would be to further trim my collection, but at this point there is very little I can even consider selling. I already sold my rarely played NES and SNES systems last year, maybe this year I can sell my 3DO and Jaguar.
I also should play my Odyssey 2. I have all but ten games for the system, yet I've never played it. :embarrassed:

- drastically increase the size of my Dreamcast collection.
- get boxes and manuals for the remaining Genesis/SNES/N64 games that need them.
- Finally take my games/systems out of storage and set up my room the way I pictured it.
that's about it, these things should last me the whole year, I'm mainly focusing on the last one. That's my end of the year goal that I'm actually gonna stick to.

I resolve to redo the wiring behind my entertainment center so it doesn't look like a section of the New York power grid. Fourteen consoles on one TV makes for a LOT of wires.
I also resolve to increase my Saturn and N64 collection.

I resolve to beat the games I got LAST Christmas (Halo 3-playing now, Bioshock-unopened, Phantom Hourglass-was playing but lost interest, Assassin's Creed-hmm, maybe except for Assassin's Creed!)
I resolve to get back to updating my games website on regular intervals.
I resolve to beat more games than I buy.

I would like to:
Finish the games I have that are still sealed (Orange Box I'm looking in your direction).
Finish my US Resident Evil collection.
Get a less haphazard method of collecting & organize my collection better.
Fix my consolized MVS and have the Unibios updated.
Clean and refurbish my Colecovision & controllers (maybe put an A/V mod on it too).
Have inserts printed for the rest of the Shockboxes on my MVS games.
Become proficient on expert guitar & hard drums at Rock Band.

1.play the games that i get, instead of just putting them to one side for sometimes up to a couple of weeks
2. try to stick to a game to try and complete it, instead of going off to play other games and not coming back to the original one

My one big gaming resolution for 2009...
Making sure the new house we buy this year has ample space for a game room. I want to have all my games displayed on shelves...similar to a "library" style. My wife and I currently rent a small 2-bedroom house and there's simply no room for my 30 years of accumulated gaming stuff. I'm sick of going down to the basement and digging through Rubbermaid storage containers to find a particular game.
Having the ability to have all my consoles actually hooked up and ready to play sounds nice too. Like my games, I'm sick of searching through containers to find my Genesis or NES when I feel the retro gaming urge.

Get 1000 points in Left 4 Dead
Get 1000 in GTA IV
Increase 360 collection
Be able to at least 4 star all songs on expert drums in RB and GT: World Tour
EDIT: BEAT SUPER PAPER MARIO, SUPER MARIO GALAXY AND METROID PRIME 3(there is no reason it should have taken this long)!

all I want is the time to play (more!) and to have fun. Nice easy goals for the most part. maybe some more income to fund the habit to

My resolutions are:
-Finish games I started
-Increase Saturn, DC, and SNES collection
-Finally get a copy of Melty Blood: Act Cadneza(sp?) and Guilty Gear: Accent Core. I'm tired of having a GG Arcade Stick and not having a use for it.

Play through more RPGs. Notably on the hit list this year:
Tales of the Abyss (playing it now)
Tales of Vesperia (picking it up in a few months)
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (buying it on day 1!)
Brave Story
Persona 3 FES
Knights of the Old Republic 2 (after the patch is released)
Jade Empire
I'm really shooting for beating fewer, but longer games this year. Really looking forward to cleaning up the RPG backlog a good bit. Honestly, I'll be surprised if I beat 30 games this year with dividing my time between RPGs and trying to spend more time playing multiplayer titles (Left 4 Dead, Resistance 2 Co Op, etc).
With any luck, I'd also like to play through the remaining Call of Duty games that I've yet to beat (NGage, PSP, 4 on DS and all three versions of World at War). That NGage one is going to be a bitch, but I'm really looking forward to the different versions of World at War.

In 2009 my gaming resolutions would be:
-Play more. I would say I average 3 hours a day, but it could be significantly more if I didn't spend so much time on the Internet and doing nothing. My "goal" is to beat one game a week on average.
-Rely less on walkthroughs when playing games. I'm generally able to resist the urge to peek on GameFAQs when I get stuck, but occasionally I get lazy and impatient and will look up the answer. Unfortunately, this often opens the floodgates, and I find myself following the walkthrough for the rest of the game. I beat most of Tomb Raider Anniversary while following a walkthrough, and deeply regret it.
-Finally get around to buying and playing the later two installments of the Sands of Time trilogy. I played the first game a while back and loved it, but sill have yet to play the sequels.

1. Buy a PSP
2. Buy an Xbox 360
3. Buy Rock Band 2
4. Try to lower my backlog of games (which is quite a long list)
5. Try to get into the habit of finishing a game before starting another one

1:Sell all of my extra games and systems I don't plan on ever playing again.
2:Play more 360 games ! I have close to 50 and half have yet to even enter my console.
3:Get more promo stuff
Mine is simply to get an Adventurevision.

I've never been big on making resolutions, so mainly all I want to do is finish the games I started in 2008 and have been ignoring the last couple months and clean up my collection since the shelves are getting dusty.
For a more general goal which I've been trying to improve on for some time, I want to organize my time better. I need to get into a consistent sleeping pattern, even when school starts back up, and stop wasting so much time. I too often get so worn out and stressed out that it just sort of paralyzes me, and I can't bring myself to play games because I'm too busy thinking about the things I should be doing (so I end up spending hours on the computer essentially doing nothing). If I can keep up with my school work better, which should be easier with linear algebra no longer tormenting me, then I can play games more, which will reduce my stress and allow me to be a happier person.

1. Reach 500 RPGs (like 42 left to go... the answer to everything, that's got to be a good sign)
2. Finish/Build a review site and write some reviews.
3. Ummm... I'm good.

Some things I wish to accomplish in the new year...
1) Buy a PSP (and finally enter the current-gen)
2) Sell/Clearout gaming items I don't use or don't really need (read: lots and lots of "to repair" consoles and controllers)
3) Beat that damn GBA Fire Emblem game (first one) that I've had since it came out, so I can move on with my strat/rpg life

My main goal would be to stop paying full retail for any new overhyped game. Star Wars Unleashed will go down as the last game that I preordered and paid full price for. With the abundance of people who buy new games and trade them back to GS within the first week of release, it isn't that hard to find them. Better yet, I currently wait about a month and usually find them going on sale or clearance somewhere.
So, continue to buy and play, but pay much less to do so.

Mine is very simple. Buy less games. I'd like to say a number like no more then 12 a month but even then that's simply too many. Maybe I'd settle for 4 a month. That's still 48 games a year and far more then I'll ever get around to playing.

1.) Buy a 360 to go with the 120 gig hard drive, hdmi cables, extra wireless controller and 12 games I already have for it
2.) Complete my US Xbox demo collection
3.) Start a website for the above collection
4.) Continue to make my blog the greatest video game blog on the net
5.) Convince Joe to add blogs to Digital Press so I can leave atariage for good
6.) Finish atleast 1 game a month
7.) Keep posting quote of the year material in every post
8.) Try to play thru more of the 300+ factory sealed games I have from atleast 4 different generations
9.) Sell off a small part of my collection to finance a new car
10.) Acknowledge the fact that I won't accomplish all of these resolutions
Thats ten and I'm out.

Wow, after reading everyone's resolutions, I believe the majority of us buy a crapload of games that we never get to play. I'm on this list as well, so here are my realistic gaming resolutions:
-I'm going to continue to get sweet deals here on DP for games, accessories, and random trinkets that I honestly will probably never need/play/finish/use. I will spend most of my child's tuition money doing so.
-I'm going to hit on Punkoffgirl, get banned, comeback as a new user, and most likely get banned again.
-I will spend entirely way too much time playing Mortal Kombat 2 online pwnig suckas since it's only 4.99 on the PSN.
-I'll play & beat Mario Galaxy.
Right after I beat Twilight Princess, Dino Crisis 2, Clock Towers 1 & 3, Mister Mosquito, Mega Man 9, Viewtiful Joes 1 & 2, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 1 Remake on GC, some random tea drinking game I accidentally downloaded for an NES emulator, Shenmue, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry 3, Blast Chamber, Nightmare Creatures, Bushido Blade, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIII, Beyond Good & Evil, Burnout Paradise, Silent Hill 4, and Dead Space. On Impossible Mode.
-I'll release a demo that shoots me into superstardom. After gaining worldwide notoriety, I will return here and have long chat sessions with my fans/haters. I'll also give ridiculously generous DP Secret Santa packages, packed with things like expensive Belgium chocolates, $50 gift cards for Bed Bath & Beyond, and Ed Hardy apparel.
-I will have these things done by 11:59 PM on December 2009. Upon 12 midnite, I will sprout wings and fly into a magical place only gods & fairies can see.

My resolutions are pretty humble:
1. Find an Amiga 500 og 1200 in working condition
2. Find a disk drive for the C64
3. Get my FamiClone and Sega Mega Drive II working
4. Try to get my NES collection up to a WHOPPING 10 games! LOL (I only have three)
5. Get my game room organized in some way
Should be managable...
Oh, and like most other people, I should really try to finish some of the games I have started playing.

Stuff Deadman said.
I'm adding this to my list, too.
I've already done this for most games as of this generation. I did pick Soul Calibur 4 up for ful price and regretted it though. Fighting games aren't worth picking up full price unless it's games like Dissidia FF, DBZ games, or, even though I dislike the Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl(there are other games though, but not this gen.)
Every other game I've picked up as soon as they were released I really haven't regretted it. Maybe Persona 3 since FES came out only a year later, but I was happy with playing Persona 3, so not much of a regret.

my biggest goal is to get more sega st-v games and actually play them (either supergun or cabinet).
Continue with the success of LAST year's resolution.....which was to not EVER buy a current gen title at release unless it is on my AAA list, and not very many are. I've been doing VERY well with sticking to sub-$10 last-gen shopping. This is the reason why I haven't added a 360 yet (although I had 2 when they first came out and dumped them quick when the 360 deaths started becoming common). I would then have to support another current gen console, and I find my PS3 to be enough, as well as it doubling as my Bluray player.
The only change that I am making THIS year is that I am going to buy software for my up until now, largely unused PSP.

Spend a lot more time playing my games.

My resolutions are simple, since i'm know I buy more than I can hope to play, already own more than I can play with a few years off i've moved beyond getting another x games for x systems. So saying i'm going to beat more before I buy is just silly.
*Reunite the halves of the collection*
This is easily achieved with the purchase of a house. That is something being seriously worked on and something we hope to get done before the end of June.
*Catch up with the 360*
360Voice got me to crack open a big chunk of games that had sat sealed last year, my stack has gotten big again. Time to not worry 'quite' as much about achievement points and get back into playing the games.
*PlayStation*
My primary collection that has been neglected for far too long (save for the last 2 years of Secret Santa gifts) and it needs a jump start.

I just made the resolution not to buy a single game until May 1st; actually, it's more of a bet with my cousin, really. I've been buying like a drunken sailor for the last few months, and we're talking new releases. Not only is my impatience costing a fortune, but I don't have time for all of these games. Buying new games for full price is a waste of money if you aren't going to play it for years, so this is my attempt at getting control.
The stakes are high; if I lose the bet, my cousin gets to cherry pick a game from my collection.

1. Spend a ton less on games. I have a ton that I haven't even touched (or opened) that should give me plenty to play.
2. Get cases for and print out cover art for my SNES/N64/NES/GB games.
3. Finally beat Disgaea (and I don't care which platform as I've played bunch on both the PS2 & DS versions and have never quite gotten around to beating them).
4. Beat at least one game a month.
5. Add more photos and details to the gaming sections of my website.
