My friend has a US BIOS v2.4 with Hang On and Safari Hunt (1988) Master System and as far input and the onboard games (pardon Snail Maze which I haven't tried) works fine. However, I recently found Choplifter which shows to be a US game based on the cartridge and case/documentation but the software error message reads when inserted into the machine.

I tried the cleaning methods on the cartridge slot on the machine described here: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89391 and I cleaned the cartridge with isopropyl alcohol as well. Much to my chagrin it did not work after this either. As of now I have not yet tried Choplifter on another system to see if the problem is software related and unfortunately my friend has no other SMS games on hand to test either.

Is there any advice on perhaps replacing the cartridge slot on the machine or any fixes to this issue? Thanks.

Take apart the cart and clean with an eraser, like a Lion eraser, until it looks super shiny.

Try again.

I have a copy of Pro Wrestling for the SMS that often gives me a software error message. I've cleaned that cartridge dozens of times and still get the error message, although I can occasionally get it to work. No other game, however, has given me that problem. Try a different game before looking too hard into replacing the cartridge slot.

I had that happen with my Phantasy Star when I fired up my SMS after like... 9 years of non-use. (I got an AV cable for my Genesis 1 that works with it!)

Freaked me out because I had never seen it before. Reseated it and it's all good.

And that's my courageous story.

Ok, I tried my recently recovered and last recalled working copy of Thunder Blade for SMS and booted it on the Power Base. After cleaning of cartridge and slot again the software error came up. Any ideas or possible solutions?

Copper polish + Q-Tip fixes about 95% of my non-functioning games.

I've tested these games on another Master System and they boot fine so it's not a software problem directly. Thanks for that advice though, I'll try that in the future. In the meantime does anyone have a solution for this particular error on SMS and if it can be resolved?
