So, I went back (if anyone cares about my trials and tribulations) and the 7800 turned out not to work at all, since every copy of Ms. Pacman did the same thing, and it would refuse all 2600 carts. So... the credit was returned to me plus some and I decided hey... there's a Master System... so here's what I got instead:

SMS 1 with Hang-on/Safari Hunt built in.
Ghost House (hucard, boxed no instructions)
My Hero (hucard, boxed no instructions)
Miracle Warriors (complete)
Reggie Jackson Baseball (complete, I LOVE this game, and it's baseball season)
SpellCaster (complete, sort of a 'meh' game)
and of course Double Dragons complete.

Plus he threw in a loose Immortal for NES since my fiancee loves it. heh.

They all work like a beaut, but it's a shame because I REALLY want a working 7800 someday. Maybe in the future...

I think Sylentwulf mentioned that he can hook you up with a good deal on a 7800. You definitely need to play the 7800 port of Food Fight. :)

already asked him and he's currently out, but hopefully he'll remember me if he gets another in ;)

Too bad, I must've bought his last "good" 7800 last week...heh. IMO I would've saved a bunch of money and bought a Power Base Converter instead. Even his was "only" $20.

A little steep, but if you really want a 7800 and a bunch of stuff:

Heh, dumb as this sounds I have no Genesis.

However if anyone can point me towards some original SMS controllers (I only got one and it's the "Good for some but not all games" Joystick) I'd be grateful

C'mon, you should be able to easily find a complete Genesis either online or in the wild for $15 or less.

True, but there's something about having the system itself, even though the store I was at had one, I can't help wanting each of the Sega systems. Even though one of the selling points of the 7800 was it could play 2600 games, I'd probably still get a 2600 later down the road too. I eventually want -every- system as that's my first goal of collecting. Then... maybe I'll focus on just one to get complete. Heh.

Give Spellcaster some time, I'd put money down that you will eventually realise this was the best game you got with that package.

I honestly think you will do better with the SMS, in terms of finding good quality games, as compared to the 7800. Go after the Wonderboy games, pretty much everyone seems to like them, or atleast, I haven't really seen any negativity towards that series.

Also, I know you wanted a 7800 because it played 2600 games, but don't forget, the 5200 has that capability as well, with the addition of an adaptor. The 5200 will offer you better arcade ports than the 7800. You said the 5200 trackball caught your attention, well that thing is IMHO the best aftermarket controller ever produced, and makes games like Centipede, and Missile Command nothing less than perfect games to play. Well, I don't wanna turn this thread into a 5200 vs. 7800 debate, just know that I believe the 5200 will ultimately offer more enjoyment than the subpar 7800. You may want to look into it.

I'll disagree about the 5200 being better then the 7800...
the most obvious complaint about the 5200 is the controllers-specifically, they break down alot and aren't too special to begin with. Although the 5200 has ports of alot of games that didn't see life on the 7800, if the game was on both platforms, chances are the 7800 version was superior(although Centipede could be argued, the 2 player simultaneous mode on the 7800 is too sweet to ignore). Plus the 7800 has games you don't see on the 5200 as well. having to buy an adaptor to play 2600 games can be a pain, since you'll be shelling out extra money and may not be able to find one easily, or as low priced as one would prefer.

Of course, this is just me talking, the 5200 has quite a few damn games not seen on the 7800 (such as a beautiful Star Raiders),but overall I just enjoyed my 7800 more.

Anyhow, SMS. I suggest looking for the Zillion games, Power Strike, Astro Warrior, Double Dragon..there's quite a few quality titles on the system. Don't forget it plays UK titles without any trouble (most of em).

I did get Double Dragon, but missed Fantasy Zone!!! What an idiot I am... I'm going back saturday so if they have it again, for $6 complete... I gotta grab it.

Yeah the SMS was more popular in the UK, and thus you can find alot of games that either didn't come out here or are really rare here. A noteable example includes Sonic 1, 2, and Chaos.
