View Full Version : PSP 3000 screen, thoughts, now the hype has died down?
ok, so now all of the bad hype has died down and people have had chance to get some extended use from their new PSP's, how would you say that the screen issues are?
Are they really as bad in 'normal' use as opposed to the super magnified pixel structure pictures that were fuelling the bad publicilty a few months ago? is it something you've now got used to and are willing to accept in a tradeoff for the more vibrant screen?
Or do you still hate it and have maybe decided to trade it in?
basically, i'm still running with a Phat, based on the whole package would you go for a 2000 or 3000?
many thanks.

Go with the 2000. The screen issues on the 3000 are pretty noticeable, even if you're not looking for them. Very distracting/annoying and it's a shame that they let it out the door like that.

Seconded. I love the screen on my 2000...

Generally speaking, I think if you've never had a PSP 1000/2000 the nuances of the 3000 screen will not likely be a problem.
If you've clocked countless hours on the 1000/2000 models you will likely be distracted by the tearing effects.
Since you have a 1000 ... if you can still find a 2000, I'd reccomend it over the 3000.

Does anyone know whether they're planning a re-release of the 3000 which will fix the screen issues or a PSP-4000?

I've used my 1000 a lot, and love the PSP 3000. The interlacing, while noticeable, doesn't bother me at all. The improved colors, decreased blurring, and other improvements on the system (Such as the d-pad, so much better than the one on my original) make it worthwhile in my opinion.
I never owned the 2000 model, so I can't speak for which one is the way to go.

never owned a 1000 or 2000, but I've yet to notice said issues. I do wish, however they put more effort into improving the battery life.

Is the problem with the screen itself, or with the fact that the older screens were blurry enough to hide these artifacts?

it's a physically different type of LCD screen used on the 3000 - vertical vs. horizontal pixel structure.

Does the PSP2000 screen still give you motion blur? I've got a 1000 and the thing I don't like most about it (besides the mushy d-pad) is the blur I get when I play fast action games on the emulators.
Guess I'm looking for an excuse to upgrade.

Yeah, I suppose about as much blur as the 1000.

The 3000's screen blurs too, just not as much. Its easy to notice when emulating 2d games. You just have to put up with it. All portable screens have motion blur to a certain extent, even the DS Lite's screen does.

its a lot worse on the 1000. the blurring on teh 2k is about the same as 3k. the only real difference between the 2k and 3k is the 3k has a built in mic, better colors/brightness and the interlacing problem. also arguably about 30min less battery life. so its up to you which is worhty of your cash.
i prefer my 2k to the 3k my friend has.

2000s are easier to mod though, so you can pull in a hell of a lot more battery life more easily than you could on a 3000. Good lord do I love the battery life on my 2000 now. Been meaning to pick up one of those new blue batteries "just in case". Never know when it might come in handy (such as if my PSP gets broken, lost or stolen and has to be replaced by a 3000).

You can recoup the lacking battery life and then some with the stamina battery+battery door cover...of course if you do that you won't be able to use any PSP 2000 accessories like charge cradles or docking video output stations.etc.
Still I highly recommend the stamina battery.

Let's just say I feel very fortunate to have found one of the last remaining GoW 2000 units in my area.
