I bought an older IMac computer for my little girl to play her games on, its an older one with like no hard drive. BUT the mouse doesnt work really well. I tried to hook up a spare mouse that I had, but it didnt work. Does it have to be an IMac mouse to work?
Anyway, does anyone here have an IMac mouse or one that would work?

Any USB based mouse will work on an iMac. Before they got rid of the single-button design (well even after), the first thing I ever did was swap out the pack-in mouse with something decent.

I hooked up an non usb mouse, but used an adapter to make it into a usb and it didnt work. Would that adapter make it not work?

possibly... I have an actual mac USB mouse if you're interested, but I agree - any usb mouse should work.

I can see an older iMac having problems detecting the ps2/usb adapter mouse. So try to use any USB only mouse, you can find a cheapo at Staples or Best Buy. Another thing to make sure of is that you plug it into the iMac directly and not into the keyboard. Non-Apple brand mice sometimes don't get enough power through the keyboard usb port.

What macintosh are we talking about?
Imac g4 with OSX on it?
or
Imac g3 with OS9/OSX on it?
The OS (maybe the computer itself) could make a difference here...
