View Full Version : UK RetroGamer #59- anyone in the USA get it yet?
Maybe I'm just being impatient but but it seems more than a month since I got my last issue...have any US subscribers got #59 yet? It has BattleZone on the cover.
Im pretty sure no US bookstores have it yet, as IIRC they get issues a month or more late. As a subscriber I get it in my mailbox soon after it appears in the UK.
I resubscribed as a gift for Xmas so maybe I'll miss #59 between subscriptions :(
NO ONE has received this in the US yet?

Issue #58 should be on book shelves any day now, in the USA. The RetroGamer magazines sold in USA bookstores are always one month behind the UK release.

Issue #57 just came in to my local Barnes & Noble two weeks ago. They have typically been receiving new issues on the third week of each month which of course are still a month old.

Yeah the US is just about getting #59 now. It won't appear in shops until early next month I figure.

yeah me too. I usually don't get it until the middle of the month, so I was pleasantly surprised that it came early.

Why don't you guys just get a subscription. You don't have to worry about having to track it down. Plus, it's a little cheaper.

Got mine as well.... then again, I do have a subscription. What is it, like $150/yr? It's a lot, but still cheaper than buying them singly.

The price at BN is $11.99 per issue, which is $11.68 after the BN discount and tax. SUbscriptions are for 13 issues, so the total at BN would be $151.84.
Not sure how 80 pounds converts, but it's probably $140 or so. So for the extra $10, I make sure that mine is in good condition, which since I collect for keeps, is important to me.

If you prefer to get it at BN, that's cool, it doesn't matter to me, but just FYI, 80 GBP = $121.87 USD, so it's an extra 30 bucks. Plus, it's nice not having to hunt it down and/or miss an issue.
Mine that come by mail are always in good condition.

I'd love to subscribe, but I've never had any magazine that I've subscribed to arrive at my house in decent condition reliably. Game Informer, Stuff, Car magazines, sports magazines all typically come mailed in crappy plastic wrap and are often stuffed into my mailbox by the idiot postman at some odd angle that destroys the cover, or at least rips it a bit.
I didn't really do the conversion this time, but back this time last year, I was going to subscribe but it was almost $150 US because of the crappy economic state. I guess now that we're all admitting that the US is in a recession, the dollar bounced back a little.

I guess it depends on your mailman.
RG comes in thick plastic wrap and has a paper cover inside with your shipping info. Unfortunately I've already thrown it out for this month, but maybe another subscriber could snap a pic if they still have it.
The only problem I have is that the magazines often get folded in half to fit in my mailbox, but this is easily solved just by sitting it on it's folded side, so the weight of the magazine presses down and removes the slight fold. After a day you can't even tell.

Went to BN this afternoon to pick up 58 and they still have 57 (Level 9 cover) on the shelf. I did pick up GamesTM #77 though (Halo Recon cover), so it wasn't a wasted trip.

And if you use a B&N credit card, you get an additional 5% off when you get your statement.

I think the exchange rate is much better than when I first looked into subscribing. At one point, it was actually cheaper to just buy them at B&N. I may have to look into subscribing now, and give it a try.

It seems that the B&Ns in my area have stopped stocking RetroGamer, so now I must subscribe if I want it.
Unfortunately, this is usually the kiss-of-death for magazines. It seems like every time I subscribe to a magazine, it goes out of business. Hopefully, that won't happen here... :)

Man, do me a favour and don't subscribe to RG. It's the only magazine I really like!

Well, I was finally able to score #58 at BN this weekend. Up until Friday, they still had 57 on the shelf. I can't wait to read the "timely" cover story "10 Games you HAVE to play this Holiday Season
