Cave Story WiiWare

Anyone else excited for this? I still haven't heard an official launch date but it'll be a day 1 purchase for me. I've been playing it on my modded xbox and it's awesome. It'll be great to play it without slowdowns and with upgraded graphics on the Wii. Not to mention supporting a really nice indie developer :)

I have Cave Story on my PSP and could redownload it for the PC if I wanted. I wouldn't ever buy it for Wiiware because I won't pay for a game that's free to begin with, not to mention it's nothing more than data with "slightly" upgraded graphics(Is the music remixed as well? I don't remember what else is really different.)

I don't mind throwin' in a bit of money. A good game is worth good money. If they add some Wii specific extras, controls, etc then it will be doubly worth the points.

I played the hell out of Alien Hominid for free on Newgrounds... Didn't keep me from buying the Gamecube version... still hunting for the euro GBA version too. You can play nethack and rogue for free... people still buy roguelikes that get commercial release. Oh yeah, that's right. A lot of those are Atlus titles these days, now I get it. :p

Yup, looks great. Hard to believe they are taking that kind of care for this game. Pixel has been known as a developer that actually listens to player feedback. This being released on WiiWare couldn't have happened to a nicer developer.

I do agree that pixel does deserve something for his work, but I also don't pay for data. Especially when I'd also have to buy a Wii which the VC is the only good thing about it, with items that I'd rather have hard copies of over roms. Another thing is. Cave Story is free. It's not like I'm pirating it in any way at all. If it was release on disc, regardless of format, then yes I'd pay for 39.99-49.99 easily(price of new game last gen, not on portable, however I wouldn't mind supporting a portable price of 39.99.)

I'd possibly send something through Paypal or some other way to Pixel, but I can't read anything on his official site to find where I'd send a donation.

A: Yes, the WiiWare version of Cave Story is Pixel-approved. It can’t be approved if he’s not involved, right?

A: Pixel, or Daisuke Amaya, is responsible for Cave Story and we wouldn’t dare make a WiiWare version without his direct involvement in the whole process. He’s as involved with the WiiWare version of Cave Story as anyone else on the development team.

Q: You’ve change the graphics, I want the old artwork.
A: How 8-bit of you, go ahead. The final version of Cave Story on WiiWare will feature a switch that will allow you to choose the old graphics.

Q: Oh yeah, I want the old music, too.
A: You’re quite the picky one. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it, too. The original audio will also be included and that too will feature a switch.You can even mix-and-match.

I'm not sure about the DS or PSP, but if you happen to have a PSX/PS2 controller laying around, you can buy a controller converter at Radio Shack for $10 that will let you use it on the PC.

For those who haven't played it, the game would be best compared to the Metroid series, being about as good as Super Metroid.

I've played through most of it on my PC and am looking forward to downloading the WiiWare version. If you just want to play it on PC, good PC controllers can be had for $10.

I agree that it is easily worth $12, but I HATE how the nintendo point cards work. I really wish you could just buy the game you wanted, without getting stuck with 800 extra points (in my case). It really is a pretty crappy system imo.

I don't mind the points, I just don't like that they can only be bought in specific amounts. It was one of the reasons I bought the MM9 DLC (not the only one, though. I love the music in that time attack level).

I might get Cave Story eventually. I love the PC version.

At least Nintendo's Wii points equate to U.S. dollars ($1 = 100 points) and you can use them all and be done with them. Supposedly, Microsoft's points system is designed in such a way that you always have a few points left over and therefore must continually keep buying more.

I'm really enjoying it. I've never bothered with the PC version though despite my love for Metroid and Castlevania. I just, hate sitting in my computer chair for too long, hurts my back. Gaming with my Wii though is perfectly comfortable.
