Over the holiday I was able to make a trip to Atari's old HQ. Here are some pictures: http://www.atariprotos.com/other/sunnyvale/sunnyvale.htm

That looks like a cool adventure!

I know what you mean about the history. Even though just the buildings still remain, you can use your imagination to feel the history, the same way we do when we play Atari games!

As far as looking in unoccupied buildings during the weekend, I can only image what the police blotters will look like in the upcoming days! LOL

I say someone oughtta buy 1265 Borregas and turn it into the classic video game museum. Whether or not you could get any of the guys who actually used to work there to set foot in the place again, well...just install an animatronic Tod Frye "walking the walls" upstairs.

Did you get a chance to make a trip to the San Jose Flea Market? I have found a ton of good stuff there. I have not been there for 4-5 years, but I always loved making that trip.

That would be quite the investment, but it would be great.

Amazing, I thought the exact same thing when I looked at the pictures. Those buildings are a lot nicer than I imagined too.

I'd personally like to see someone go to the Hawthorne, CA location where Mattel Electronics used to set up shop. Take a few pictures, and a few more at the pizza joint the programmers used to hang around in and where they hold their yearly reunions.

That looks like the perfect place for a Video Game Museum, if that was in England it would have a Blue Plack by now!

No unfortunately. I never did make it into San Jose, just a quick trip to Sunnyvale.

I agree that 1265 Borregas should be purchased and turned into a museum. And given the Atari alumni participation at CGE, I'm sure you could get more than a few to appear at the opening of this mythical shrine to gaming.

Very nice trip and thank you for sharing the photos!

Is it just me or do the buildings look surprisingly modern? I wonder if they have been considerably refurbished or if they truly looked so 'fresh' in their design back then.... fascinating.

It never occured to me, but yes they do. Probably because Silcon Valley was always sort of cutting edge.

start taking donations and ask rich people to put up an investment towards the video game museum. Contact the owner of EA or something and tell them to open the game museum, I'm sure they have plenty of money kicking around. Then all of us DP members (who are willing) can donate our rare games to put on display. I know in the baseball hall of fame, somebody donated a Honus Wagner card (priciest card for those who don't know.... .5 mil) and the plaque at the bottom said "donated by so and so". Or we could all just hound Joe to make the investment. Just do it.

For the official record, Todd's wall walking stints and pseudo lobotomy were in 275 Gibraltar Sunnyvale Bldg about a block away.

1265 Borregas housed the CEO and his cronies, executive dining room and the only other redeeming item the corporate game room "arcade" open to all employees.

In fact 1265 was not beloved in any way by Atari employee's.
