I recently did this mod for svideo for multiple sega systems or possably others and it works great. im sure i saved a bundle of money or headaches if i would have sent all the systems in or did the internal mods myself.
items i needed at minimum
- Y PLUS RGB to svideo converter (around $25-$35)
http://www.arcademvs.com/ARCADE_ACESSERIOR.htm
or ebay
or Jrok converter also but more expensive (i have not tried these converters)
- 8-15vdc power adapter for converter (i use 9v 300ma rating)
spec sheet says 8-15v 1.5 watt max and internet site says 8-5v and im sure its a type error. i will go with the spec sheet they provide.
- 8 pin male din plug (262 degree) for genesis model 1 (spare 32x to gen 1 cable recommended) with all connecting pins
- 9 pin mini male din plug for 32x and genesis model 2 (spare 32x to gen 2 cable, apple, or the commonly available recommended) with all connecing pins
- soldering iron for din plugs
- electrical tape
note that cables with wires already attached is so much easier and more reliable.
you can option putting your own socket on the consule if you have them available.
other items needed if you want go further with a proper setup
- plastic box or something to house the converter
- rgb scart male to female cable (i ordered f-m and m-m for Genesis 1, 32X, master system and converter) with all connecting pins.
i started by finding the pinouts online.take special care of what pinouts your looking at whether its pinout looking into the consule or looking at the cable itself. i wrote the pinouts on a piece of paper with female and male pinouts.
my converter came with power cable end and rgb connecter cables. the rgb cables are just the connectors with wires for connecting strait to a cable end or the prefered scart female socket that i used. the converter comes with 2 different rgb sockets that i tested. i ended up using the smaller socket that has (VS) VERTICLE SYNC, (HS) HORIZONTAL SYNC, GROUND, RED, GREEN, BLUE. this may or may not be the best way to hook it up and i will explain why in the next thread. i just went with my first good results and left it at that.i cut the spare 32x link cable (for 32x or gen 2) for an end and used a gen 1 din plug (not recommended and hard to solder those as cut cable much easier) for other genesis model 1.
my connections
SYNC - HORIZONTAL SYNC ON CONVERTER
GROUND - GROUND
RED - RED
GREEN - GREEN
BLUE - BLUE
the ending results are fantastic and is a great project that is not so hard on the wallet. i have multiple systems that include genesis with cd and 32x,genesis with multi game hunter copier, sega master system and others.this device gives svideo for all without having to mod all.
if anyone want's to give it a try have at it. i won't take any responsibility if you damage anything. remember there is a 5volt out on the genesis so be careful, always check your connections more than once. if you have a multimeter you can check continuity of your connections
this first thread is to simplify things (for those who want to give it a try) and i will create a new thread to give more details.
