I was cleaning out floppies when I came across a copy of Commander Keen: Aliens ate my Babysitter. It is loose and I was just wondering if it was worth anything besides being pretty cool to earn. I don't know if it is a complete version as it says it only has 3 levels and calls itself a demo. Of course this just may be what they call shareware.

And if anyone was wondering, I actually do have one computer with a floppy drive, but uses XP. I'd still keep the Disc for the coolness factor.

Pretty cool find if you have the official disk, but as it's the demo, probably not worth much.

Checking at the Gamefaqs guide, it does look like it is just a demo. It is an official demo so it has a pretty nifty demo. Of course I can't find a complete guide to verify this. It doesn't look like Commander Keen 6 was shareware anyway.

Keen 6 was a retail release that had a 3 level demo released for it:

(Stolen from the 3D Realms web site)

"Keen 6 was called "Aliens Ate My Babysitter". Keen 6 was sold by FormGen in retail, and since it was in retail, FormGen convinced the id guys to put in some off disk copy protection for the game. The fact that Keen 6 was broken off into it's own game, and the addition of the copy protection kind of made the "vibe" not the same as the original, but Keens 4-6 are awesome games, even if it's not a trilogy.

One last note about Keen 6. At the moment, there is no legal way to obtain the game - it was a retail game by FormGen that Apogee merely resold the title. As FormGen doesn't exist anymore, the game has been discontinued, and for now, there is no legal way to obtain Keen 6 (save for the 3 level demo which was created to promote Keen 6)."

I must say it was a really fun demo, too. I remember playing it many times when it was put out.

Now it makes me think, hm, did I ever finish the other Keens? May have to break out my book of id and see...

I think I have this same demo stored away somewhere, fully boxed. If I recall correctly, I actually paid $5 at the time, thinking it was a full release. It'd be nice to hear it's worth something! Of course, I really doubt it is.

There seems to be a distinct lack of Commander Keen items on eBay AND Amazon.

I'm pretty sure the full version of this is going to be worth quite a pretty penny... but this floppy, probably not. You can still get the shareware version on the internet. :\

I also don't see Commander Keen in the wild, how odd right? It's always been something interesting. Either way, the Keen series is a wonderful one.

Well, episodes 1 through 5 are available on Steam for five bucks. All of 'em.

If only FormGen was still around... I wish they'd release part six there, just to have the entire set. :p

i would reccomend the id Anthology.

If you mean this (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/440/), it doesn't include Keen 6.

I think he means this (http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Id_Anthology). This also does not include Keen 6, but it's a whole lot cheaper and not Steam-powered.

Both disk seems to be working... I'll be installing Dosbox tomorrow to test the game.
