I purchased this game new years ago at a failing toy store. They had stacks of them for 0.40$ each. In retrospect I should have picked up more for trading purposes, but whatever.

Well, I never paid much attention to this game because I never got into it. I've only played the game about three or four times in total so I never noticed anything out of the ordinary about the cart.

Recently I got a random urge to take a look at the cart without explanation to myself. Upon doing so I noticed something new. Black tape on the back.

Being the curious person I am I peeled the tape off to reveil this:

From the information I got and what I knew already, I am sure this game was manufactured by Sega. Thusly, they should have Sega embossed in the back of the cart.

Why does it have Acclaim embossed? All I can figure out is they ran out of cart backs for the run and had to substitute it.

Still, it does not answer why they had Acclaim cart backs to begin with..

Any ideas guys?

I'm assuming that's a Majesco rerelease, and that they acquired the carts from Acclaim.

That is correct. I came upon many of these throughout the years.

Hmm, I guess it's not as big of a mystery as I thought.

Somewhat disappointing, but oh well.

Wow, does this go for all Genesis games packaged in paper boxes instead of hard plastic? To be honest I have never checked the back of those carts. Interesting to find out that Majesco releassed these instead of Sega.

OMG! You just ruined the rarity of that game by removing the sticker. didn't you know the ration of games with the sticker intact is getting really low, compared to the ones removed!

I kid, I don't know any stats.

Sega started using boxes late in the Genesis run, so the later Genesis releases are actually on Sega-published Genesis carts.

I picked up Vectorman 2 at Toys R Us many years after they stopped selling new Genesis games. I too only played the game a couple of times. But I don't know if I saw the sticker or not, but it seem like I did and decided to leave it there for posterity's sake.

Next time I do some reorganizing, I will have to check and see if the sticker is there (I'm guessing it is). It is part of history and I guess somewhat of a conversation piece. "Look what those cheap game companies did back in my day..." :)

Is it only Majesco carts that have the tape? I'm pretty sure I came across others that had tape, either Aladdin or The Lion King(the tape said Virgin on it).

Hmm, My "Mega Hit Series" Vectorman cart has the Sega embossed backing with "Assembled in the USA"
