Ok, basically in mame when i try to play games at their native resolution a lot of the CPS2 games SF2 etc etc, play in a nearly 'widescreen' mode.
However i seem to remember in the arcade these games were on a monitor that looked closer to a standard 4:3 monitor.
I can force it to play in a 640 x 480 mode through Finalburn alpha and it looks better but i was simply wondering if all the native resolutions in mame are the 'correct' resolution to play the games at or were they made with those resolutions with a view to being 'squashed' into a 4:3 ratio screen?
R-type is another game that when playe natively is a lot more letterboxd then i remembered.
I'm no expert and hope i've got accross what i mean, and i'm not looking for how to configure the emuators i have, more a tutorial on why the older games were made in the resolutions they were and what way to play them is most acurate to what i would have been playing down the arcade. Thanks.
