View Full Version : Turn your NES Zapper into a snooze button for your alarm

Sorry, I do not know how to do it. But the newest issue (with Olga from 007 on the cover) of Maxim shows you how to do it in four steps. Basically when you pull the trigger on the zapper it turns snooze on our clock. I saw it in the supermarket today and thought I would pass it along.

Interesting.
Anyone have that issue?

An even better idea...Have the alarm clock on wheels so it runs away from you and tries to hide and you have to shoot it with the zapper(lets say 3 times) to make it stop. Have it play the Duck Hunt dog laughing sound when you miss. Now that might actually get me out of bed. Hmmm...I might have just gotten the idea for my next project:D

Get a Clocky first. http://www.bestofferbuy.com/Toy-Clocky-Robotic-Wheeled-LCD-Alarm-Clock-Yellow-p-3064.html?currency=USD&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=gbase
It rolls off the desk and doesn't stop until it's turned off. A few quick solders on both the gun and the Clocky, replace the voice chip, put a sensor on the clock, maybe a gray/red paint job, and you've got yourself a Zapper Clock. :wink 2:

That's what I was thinking of when jb143 mentioned the alarm clock that runs away.

Hey, that's pretty much what I was envisioning...a clock with 2 wheels on both ends. I pictured it being smart enough to not get stuck on wires on the floor though. I still think it would be fun(and somewhat satisfying) to shoot the clock though. Hmmm...I just got a shipment of electronics parts in, including a new microcontroller. Anyone want to invest? ;)
I also have an idea for a clock to help people who run late...especially those that set their clocks fast but end up adapting to the new time so they end up being late anyways. I never got around to making it though.

From a few months ago, this is another take on the light gun clock...using a SMS gun this time.
Make magazine is amazing by the way.

A few weeks ago I saw somewhere, but don't recall where, an alarm clock that shoots into the air some sort of rotary-winged something-or-other when the alarm goes off. The text about the item wasn't clear, but my understanding was that the alarm could not be turned off until the rotor had been found, retrieved, and placed back into the top of the alarm clock.
Seemed pretty clever to me.

Google 'flying alarm clock' for a whole bunch of hits on this thing.

Those are all pretty neat ideas...untill you have to get up. Then they're going to the most annoying thing in the world. I guess that's the point though so my new idea of an alarm clock is a super heavy duty one that the only way to shut it off is to pound on it with the included caveman style club.

I find it really annoying that a lot of the interesting new clocks that come out nowadays are LCD based, and have fairly small numbers on them. I have to have a large display so I can see the numbers without putting my glasses on.
Here's an idea... modify a Zapper and put a 9-volt battery inside the pistolgrip to power the device, and a sensor on your alarm clock wired to the snooze button. When you want to turn it off, you grab the Zapper and fire it at the alarm clock. A direct hit means you get to snooze a while longer. Get a clock that can accept MP3 files, and have it play Duck Hunt sound effects.
