Having just watched a video of Jumpman being played on a c64 on youtube I have developed an interest in the game. I'd like to play it myself but I don't know which system to play on, so I would like to know people's opinions on the best port of Jumpman and Jr. I think it came out on the 64, atari 8 bit and the Apple II.

Also, if possible what are people's favorite single screen platformers (apart from the Donkey Kong series) on the c64 and atari 8 bit systems.

Thank you

I have Jumpman on the C64 and love it. It's pure gaming bliss.

I have not played it on other computers so I can't say how it stacks up against those versions. However, the C64 version is so perfect already, I can't imagine other versions being drasticly better.

As for other single screen platformers... you can't get much better than Montezuma's Revenge!!! It's a blast and is excellent on the C64 as well, but I believe the 8-bit Atari version is supposed to be even better.

Ahh! Jumpman! You know, I was playing dozens of games on my 800XL & Sio2PC USB setup today and I didn't even think to boot this one up. Will do tomorrow! Great game!

As soon as the C64TPC box arrives I'll be able to do a side by side comparison too :)

I suggest you look into "Wizard" and "Ultimate Wizard" on the C64. I dare say it out-does Jumpman at it's own game!

They're both basically the same, though Ultimate Wizard has a level editor I believe.

In terms of newer games, N+ always makes me think of Jumpman. I know it isn't single screen, but it is almost the exact same gameplay.

Ultimate Wizard and its level editor are amazing. One of the most overlooked games ever.

If you have a 360, PSP, or DS you need to get N+. Now.

Jumpman on the C64 is my favorite game of all time. The playability for game that came out so long ago is amazing, and it holds very well today. The Colecovision version of Jumpman Jr. is a decent port as well though I'd avoid the Apple II conversation at all costs.. it's teh awful.

A8 of Jumpman rocks too, maybe Loderunner and Championship Loderunner are simular.
A British game (for English standards, quite a good game) is Chuckie Egg on A8 or C64, a very decent platform title.
also good, Bounty Bob and some of the Frank Cohen platformers.

I played the Apple II Jumpman back in the day. N+ is a worth successor.

Looks like Jumpman has a bit of a following. After I recover from a damn hard drive crash on my PC I'm going to get right into it.

Montezuma's Revenge, one of the best Atari 8-bit titles of any genre.
