Sucks they won't release another. BoF2, 3, and 4 are better than all FF titles but 5 and 6. BoF5 is an amazing game, though I like FF1, 5, 6, 7, and 9 better. However, I think the main reason the game got as low sales as it did was due to how the graphics look, and being that, while they do look good, they look kindof repetitive from the pictures we've seen. Another reason is how Capcom promoted the game. About keeping party exp so if you die, you have the choice of returning to the last save point with all of it or to the very beginning of the game. Also finishing the game more than once will give more of the storyline. I think these factors turned people from the game.

However, the game can be beaten without restarting. Your dragon form is pretty much required to do it and to only be used on bosses late in the game.

BoF5 along with SO:TTEOT were the biggest deception of the PS2 for me. And I'm a huge fan of those two series =/

If they were to make another BoF in the same vein as BoF5, they better off ending the series.

Apperently I'm the only one who enjoyed BoF5. Its right behind BoF3, but I liked it more than the others.

I'm really looking forward to playing Breath of Fire 5. I wasn't too huge into the first two games so I completely avoided the rest, but 5 sounds really, really neat (and fresh!). It's actually on my list of stuff to play this year (finally).

Xander: given that I adored Till the End of Time, I think we just might have completely opposite opinions and thus may totally dig BoF5 :p

I bought BoF3 (PSP) during that small window of time when Best Buy was selling DS and PSP imports. I have the PS1 version too, but it's sealed. Is it generally agreed upon as the best of the series? From reading this thread it seems so. I've only played BoF1 and 2 to completion (both the GBA releases).

The graphics look like a 5 year old's game. All that cell shaded crap really turns me off gaming. I just can't get into it. We have the technology to make realistic looking characters, so let's stop with the lazy Saturday morning cartoon look!

I actually like it best out of what I've played of the series. I really kind of got annoyed with BoF3 after a while. I thought the things introduced in Dragon Quarter were fresh and interesting, although other people might find them annoying.

Dragon Quarter is definitely my favorite in the series. Heck, it's probably my favorite PS2 RPG (although I haven't played many PS2 RPGs).

I would like to see another BoF like the earlier ones though.

You are all crazy people. If I were to list my top ten games of all time, Breath of Fire 5 would probably be on it.

You people probably didn't like Dead Rising, either.

Or unlike of the rest of us You havent played enough games so that crap fest compared to the other 4.

To the person who blasted 1 and 2 the graphics arent that bad besides it's the storyline that matters if you really want to complain about graphics then look no further to the overhyped piece of trash that is FF7

I don't see anyone bashing 1 & 2 based on its graphics Chainsaw_Charlie. But anyway I think BoF2 for the SNES had fairly awesome graphic at its time. Just look at the combat animation, made all the combat so much better imo.

And yeah lots of people like the 5. Usually they aren't huge RPG fans. It has new elements that you won't see in many RPGs, so indeed it's fresh. But having to re-do the game multiple time as part of the gameplay.. to me it's just being a lazy programmer. You don't need to make as much content, the player will have to replay the same area multiple time anyway, extending the game lifespan. And from start to end, BoF5 is indeed a short game. I see the same pattern in modern platformers, with big incentive placed on collecting items for a score and such. To me it's just a cheap way to increase the lifespan of a game by forcing the player to re-do content for pointless marks.

But BoF5 has other issues. The game do look like crap. The story is uninteresting and the characters are dull. The story it's somewhat original, the context at least, but originality doesn't equal to a good scenario.

The 3 is often proclaimed the best but I think it was not as good as the 4 (which usually isn't liked too much) or the 2, but that's another debate.

The first two Breath of Fire games are so inane and tedious that they made me ignore 3 and 4 entirely. It should be hard to make a boring RPG where you can combine party members, turn into a dragon, and recruit a bossy snake-woman sorceress, but the Breath of Fire series did it at least twice.

I enjoyed Dragon Quarter, though.

If that's all that matters, then Breath of Fire 1 is a very bad game.

The second BoF wasn't a grind like the original. The storyline parts were all good, the gameplay was updated quite a bit to not really be a grinder like the original game, though early in the game it does offer a little bit of grinding. Aside from great graphics, likable characters, and a decent storyline, though, the first BoF sucks in my opinion.

There's the third one which is easily my favorite. The characters on BoF3 are some of my all time favorite characters in an RPG, as they're very likable and also very diverse in their stats/abilities, with Rei being my favorite character. BoF3 also introduced the gene system which is the best dragon system.

The ability system in BoF3 owned all as it basically added to the system that BoF2 brushed up on and then added so much more to it, to the point that you could learn special abilities from masters as well as learn abilities by examining monsters. All the abilities that aren't character specific abilities could also be placed on any other charcter, though no duplicate abilities can be acquired unless it's an ability a character learns on his/her own.

Breath of Fire 3 also carries my favorite mini games of all time. The faerie village on BoF3 is the best town system in my opinion, allowing you to fully build the town and then fully build up what shops you want in there. After getting to the end of the game you won't need shops so much, but rather a casino, gift areas, copy places, etc, etc, etc. Then there's the fishing which is far better than pretty much any fishing game, with mutiple types of fish in specific areas, going all the way up to types like Sharks. There's a record book that includes the best weight and score for all the fish and adds up your entire score giving you a rating on it. The only fishing game that has a system as good is BoF4 and that's only because it's pretty much exactly the same, except you can actually use a special PSX fishing controller(http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/66/65982/psx-a_fishing_controller_bass_landing_1.jpg.)

Dragon Quarter is more of a dungeon crawler, so if you're not into that type you're probably not going to like it. It had alot of great elements for its gameplay which is why it's so good, and if you ask me, the storyline is the best in the series. Not the best game in the series, but definitely a high up game in my favorites category.

Might have been why I liked it.

funny how everyones' opinions are so varied. I loved 1 & 2. In fact 2 is one of my fav games for SNES. What's not to like?

1) Awesome story with a hint of truth about Christianity
2) Fun, varied characters that can be spiced up at the end with shamans
3) Custom personal town
4) Secret Island where you can get crazy experience by fighting oversized monsters
5) 2-3 different endings

Anyways, I had started BoF3 in college but never made it all the way through. I can't remember why the stop though. Either I lost interest or something academic got in the way. I have never tried 4, although from reading other people's posts it seems to be the least liked. Why is that? I would be very open to a new BoF that went back to it's roots and had good, non cell-shaded graphics.

For as many games I have played and beaten Nes to DS I have the right to say that

I liked part 4 (you have to get pass the first couple hours then it gets a lot better) its right behind part 3 as my fav.
