The industry loves to take two genres, or two unique games, mesh them together in some way, and create what they believe is a totally unique game on its own.
It's YOUR turn.
Pick two games that you like and give the "merged" game a new title. Describe how the game would play out. It can be serious or it can be silly.
Who's first?

I love racing games, so naturally I tried to combine that with something else:
Racing/Fighting: Kinda done already with Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero and the life bars each racer has. Plus, there has been at least one fighting game with a car as a fighter (Fighting Vipers, perhaps?).
Racing/RPG: Racing Lagoon. I do wish that would have come out here in the states. Pro Race Driver fits here too.
Damn. There go my two ideas.
How about a 1st person shooter/Dating sim? That might be interesting.

Resident Evil/GTA. Is it so wrong that I want to hit a zombie with my car? I like the RE games, but seriously, if a zombie apocolypse happens, i'm not hoofin' it.

Good idea. As you shoot your way through hordes of gun-toting enemies and mechanized missile launchers, your character can pick up pieces of love letters that have placed on the battlefield by a number of women. The more difficult the enemy, the bigger the piece of love letter you are awarded. Kill a soldier, you get her phone number. Destroy a tank, you get her address. When you earn all the pieces of a certain woman's love letter you get civilian leave time and head to the city to meet her. If it doesn't work out, back to the battlefield you go to find more love letters!
We'll call it... Halo: Heartthrobs of Destiny

hmmm, the Res Evil/GTA idea intrigues me. how about making it a light gun game and steering wheel compatable. imagine trying to drive with one hand and shoot with the other. the bodies of the zombies you just shot bouncing off your car as you attempt to steer around them or run over the ones you missed. that could be a challenge.

@Oobgarm - Try Road Trip for the PS2 if you want a Racing / RPG like game... :)
As for mine...Resident Evil meets Tiger Woods game...Zombie Golf!!
Hit the ball, and then fight your way through hordes of zombies to try to get to your ball!!

Well by combining House of the dead with a typing tutor, you get the typing of the dead....so why not combine the typing of the dead with another unique controller: The Samba of the Dead or The Fishing of the Dead how about The Taxi of the Dead?

I've always wanted to see a racing game with light gun support. Of course you'd have to use a steering wheel controller for the driving bit. Still, I think it could work, maybe...
How about a real RPG/Fighting crossover? Not having played the Sam Sho RPG, I dunno what that's about, but the Virtua Fighter RPG idea always appealed to me. I'm not talking something like Shenmue tho. Something where you level up and have a story, but the fighting system is taken from a fighting game, not turn based. That could be cool.
Oh, and another Racing/RPG, you might check out Final Lap Twin on the TG16. It has a story mode that's RPG-ish.

I know this has kinda been done before with Actraiser... but I'd like to see another mixing of a SIM and RPG.
@Raedon: The only thing close to your suggested game would be Princess Crown for the Saturn, and if you haven't given it a try, you're really missing out.

How about....a bizzare hybrid of football (of the non-american variety) and a combat flight sim? You suck the ball up through your air intakes and then 'fire' it towards the goal (a big rectangle hovering in the air at the level of your average sky scraper.)

How about a Dancing RPG?
Or a Dancing SHMUP?
Or an RPG Shooter (remember Guardian Legend?)
Or a Light Gun RPG
Or a MMORPG SMMUP?
Or a virtual reality sex game (or for the real crazies, animated hentai like-stuff)....gotta wonder about the controllers and ummm accessories. I know it's been thought of, but never pulled off as far as I know. Cross that with a SHMUP LOL
Ok, gotta go.

Or a Light Gun RPG
RPG mode in Point Blank 1 for PSX has you covered. Move your character around the overworld by shooting where you want them to go. When you encounter an enemy, you must beat a timed lightgun event to advance.

Maybe an RPG with a lot of action (Like Zelda), for ex: "The Legend of Ryu", when obviously Ryu is the main character and you have to do a lot of things and SF characters appear in the way of the karateka, like Sheng Long, Akuma, Sagat, Ken, etc.

I'd like to see a cross between SIMCITY, WARLORDS and SMITHEREENS! for the Odyssey 2. Build up your castle and your kingdom as your opponents do the same...then inflict horrific casualties on their kingdoms.

That's been done in the not-very-best-selling Tobal games. I own one of them (never remember which one, to tell the truth), and it was a little bit amusing. You have to run like the fighting part of it, and at times its kinda slow, but it's an alright game.

Anywhoo, yes, I own it. It doesn't have a label nor a cover, so it's probably a non-official bootleg. Oh, and it appears to be European too.

I am not sure of the name of it, something Cop, but at the arcade here there is a cop game where you can drive around, but you also have to use a gun to shoot the bad guys. It's pretty fun, but I don't know if it is on any home systems. Kinda close....

There's an arcade game called Lucky and Wild that lets you do that. It's emulated in Mame. We used to have a cabinet around here, and man, I loved that game. It's for two players. One player drives with one hand, shoots a pistol with the other, and operates the pedal. PLayer two operates a machine gun and has control of your grenades. It's all car chases, you chase down the bad guys, and have to shoot out their tires and such. Anyone seen the anime riding bean? It's kind of like that.

"Or a Dancing SHMUP?"
There IS actually a shooter with a disco/techno theme, called Dangun Feveron. It's a pretty standard shooter with a couple of fun twists, but the atmosphere really helps it stand out.
One hybrid which I quickly discovered does NOT work is pinball and RPGs. Jaleco attempted this in Pinball Quest and man, did that game blow. It's one of those cases where you're better off leaving the chocolate out of the peanut butter.
The Legend of Ryu game that Archelogical Digital mentioned earlier sounds a lot like Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. It attempted to add depth to the Mortal Kombat series, but I haven't found a single person who actually enjoyed the game. Midway actually included a button that let your character turn around... that's how clumsy and unnatural the control was.

Two AM2 games---Shenmue and King of Route 66--Route 66 was no good by itself but put in the time-consuming world of Shenmue and youll be literally driving for hours. Of course you can stop and get women and what not. It would be sweet

I would create a game that combines Tony Hawk (but substitute video gaming for skating) and GTA VC (but w/o the heavy emphasis on violence and law breaking). You're on a mission to play video games in arcades and get the highest scores and earn gamer cred' among your peers (kinda like my childhood in the early 80's). Let's call it "Gamer!"
Now we all know that arcade games require money so you'll need to complete odd jobs to earn money to play arcade games, such as mowing lawns or completing a paper route (like Paper Boy) which in themselves have unique challenges. You could also sell things like your action fiqures or trade for things that you will need like a bicycle to get that paper route job.
The arcades would be filled with all kinds of games from fighting games to shooters and driving games (these could be arcade classics or newly created games). Once you plug in your quarter you play the game and try to earn the high score, the more high scores you earn in the arcades the more your gamer ranking goes up until you are the ultimate gamer. (technical note: this is where a hard drive would be beneficial so you could store loads of arcade games or download new titles)
Gamer! would also contain missions such as rescue the old lady's cat or return the little girls dolly from the big bully or tasks given to you by Adults such as "hey kid, deliver this package across town in 3 minutes and I'll give you $5 bucks."
Taking this online would be great in that you'd have to compete against real gamers (just like in a real life arcade) to earn high scores.
