View Full Version : Xbox collection help
I'm updating the list from two years back. I still need help guys.
I've been collecting xbox for some time now. I've been trying to collect every North American xbox game including all variants. With that being said, I have a few games I consider my All Star collection. These are xbox games that have some special property to them that didn't come with a typical case: cardboard slipcovers (Godfather LE), metal cases (Halo 2), packaged with a tshirt (Robotech: Battlecry CE) or figure (Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu), packaged with a mic (Karaoke Revolution Party), packaged with a mat (Pump it Up : Exceed), or those that came in a double case (Dead or Alive Ultimate or GTA Trilogy). Most are condition sensitive and are Limited or Collectors Editions.
Point is, it has taken quite some time tracking some of these down. Most of the time the problem is not knowing that they exist. Does anyone know of an All Star that I'm missing?

TOCA Race Driver 2/Colin Mcrae Rally 04, Steel Battalion, Xbox Music Mixer, Pump It Up: Exceed, Real World Golf, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One - Collector`s Edition & any of the 4 Dance Dance bundles. There may be more, that`s all I can think of at the moment.

The only other games I can think of that had Limited Editions, and aren't already listed, are America's Army: Rise of a Soldier and Fable. Though, I don't recall if those two had any special packaging or anything included with them.

I don't have anything to add (no shock there), but I do want to say that I really dig that display unit. Very nicely put together display there.

Asside from what's already been mentioned, i'd add Volvo: Drive for Life.
We were discussing something similar the other day on #vbender, I think it's nearly impossible to get a complete xbox variant set. Microsoft printed off a very limited number of a lot of titles with unique cover art for their employee store. They stopped doing it somewhere during the Xbox lifespan, but nobody is sure exactly when. What makes it even more difficult is that once they ran out of the special cover, they'd just ship you a normal retail copy. To add to the nightmare, very few employees bought from the company store because there was no discount and the prices never went down along with MSRP.
The argument comes up that these weren't available to the public, so they shouldn't count. Unfortunately, you don't actually have to be an employee of microsoft to buy things from the employee store for some reason. So they were, in fact, available to the public; it's just that nobody bought them.
Here's an example. Ignore the giant sticker on the front, look at the "Not for Resale" near the ESRB rating:

The copy of Halo that came with the Halo special edition Xbox's also had "not for resale" on the cover but it was centered right at the bottom middle.

I'm curious as to what made World Series of Poker part of your All Stars?
I picked up a World Championship Poker bundled with a Fundamentals of Poker paperback book at TRUS years ago. The book wasn't in the case nor was there a box, it was just inside the cellophane wrap. Maybe it was something TRUS did, I don't know.
There's a version of Mace Griffon Bounty Hunter with bonus music sampler. The sampler was noted on the cover so it's easy to spot.
Here's a funny one. Walmart sold a Collectors Edition of Nascar 07 with a plastic slip cover. Inside was a card with Walmart specific cheats. Now you'd think that Walmart would have sold a bazillion of those, right? I'll tell you what, I've spent years seriously searching for a second copy! Two years to find another used copy at Amazon. From my experience it's the most difficult to find NTSC Xbox game.
By the way, conrats at having found the Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu figure! I haven't really looked for one of those, but it's something I'm missing.

TOCA Race Driver 2/Colin Mcrae Rally 04 ---- I hadn't heard of
Steel Batalion ---- Got it, just didn't list it as well as
Silent Scope Complete ----- and
Real Wold Golf ---- Got it
Xbox Music Mixer ---- Got the game, got the mic, just not together in the packaging
I'm working on the dance pad boxes.
America's Army: Rise of a Soldier and Fable.
No special packaging just cover variations.
I do want to say that I really dig that display unit. Very nicely put together display there.
Thanks! The pictures realy don't do it justice. I took an old shadow box and replaced the backing to plywood, then painted it a flat black.
Asside from what's already been mentioned, i'd add Volvo: Drive for Life.
I've got this game factory sealed. My copy doesn't have any special packaging. You know something I don't?
As far as the variants, I'll leave that up to another thread.

It's got a cardboard slipcover just like the Tomb Raider and Godfather.

I knew about the Walmart Nascar 06 but not 07. 06 had a sticker on the front that you pealed away for the cheats. To my knowlege, all the games are the same. The cheats work with all copies of Nascar 06. I'll look for 07 now.
By the way, conrats at having found the Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu figure! I haven't really looked for one of those, but it's something I'm missing.
Thanks! It's the only one I have seen. Found it on ebay with a BIN of $15. I haven't seen one since. The thing that sucks about this one is the fact I can't display both sides. Do I display the front cover or the action figure?

Let me just tell you im a collector for ps2 games, but i thought i would share some ideas that might also apply to xbox games.
For Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu, which figure do you have? I know for the ps2, there are 4. Those being Batgirl, Batman, Nightwing, and Robin. When this set got released only the Batgirl and Batman figures where talked about as being with the set. Websites said only 15,000 of each where released. Could the xbox also have both of those too?
For the Nightwing and Robin, im not sure when or why, but I've never found out any info as to why or when the got released, but they where. These 2 are the most common to find on ebay, amazon. I own the robin set. Seen the Batgirl and Batman set, and read enough auctions mentioning Nightwing to know it exists. So at the very least, you might want to see if one more set exists for the xbox.
For NASCAR 06: Total Team Control, that's the wal-mart release right? Do you know if that was a xbox only thing, or did it apply to the ps2? I've looked and looked and not found this version from wal-mart for the ps2 yet. I've read it should have came out, but have never seen what it looks like. Would you mind taking a picture for me of this, so it might be easier to hunt down.
For NASCAR 07, wal-mart version, its also a pain to find on the ps2. I didn't even know about it, until i randomly stumbled upon it on ebay for a much to high price. NASCAR 08 also got the slip cover treatment.
Scarface: The World Is Yours didn't get a limited edition version for xbox?
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon either?
Let me just tell you im a collector for ps2 games, but i thought i would share some ideas that might also apply to xbox games.
My hat is off to you sir. Your job is much harder than mine if you doing the same thing with all the variants.
For Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu, which figure do you have?
Mine is the Batman. I know of two other guys and they too have the Batman. I stumbled upon a Batgirl and thought that I had found something, but it was the ps2 version. To my knowledge, Batman is the only one that came out for xbox. That's not saying I'm wrong mind you....

Let's see if I can clarify. Take a regular copy of NASCAR 06: Total Team Control, put a sticker on it, and you have the Walmart version. No difference in the disk. No difference in the instructions. No difference in the case. No difference in the artwork/insert. I searched for this sucker for a very, very long time. I finaly found it in a lot with 3 other sports titles and paid $6 shipped to me. Your not going to find it listed on ebay as Walmart version. Your just going to have to look for the sticker. Picture? Anything for a fellow collector.

No to both. Armageddon got a shiny cover. That's all.
I do have a question about Deception though since you are a ps2 collector. I swear I saw a metal case with SubZero on it at a pawn shop. Stupid me didn't get it, and by the time I went back it was gone. I have gotten the SubZero Deception PS2 and it's not a metal case. Did I dream it?

There was a WalMart version of Battlestations Midway, and also a Sam's Club version. Both came with a poster, as noted by their specially printed covers.

Well your picture will help me for nascar 06, when and if i find it. Yes i know its the same, but still want it.
The only metal cases for mortal kombat is the Armageddon ones. I do only have to get 1 version of Mortal Kombat: Deception Premium Pack, of which i already got. Too bad though, the xbox ones are pretty awesome.
Right now i am at 980 different ps2 games, with maybe 25 variants added to that number. Yes i am going after variants, right now its mainly verifying a variant then adding it to my needed list. I think i will needed to seek out other ps2 collectors, or i will never find all the variants on my own.

Just thought I’d let you know that I decided to try and see if I could find an Xbox Batman Rise of Sin Tzu Action Figure Commemorative Edition for myself and came across both Batman and Batgirl. I remembered you saying you were interested in collecting all the variants, so I figured you would be interested in hearing about it. I think there are a few others around here that collect Xbox stuff and they might be interested too.

Counterstrike wasn't a real LE. The 'LE' cover was a GameStop pre-order bonus. They were never sold in the games, but given out loose w/ them.

Hey Maxx, would you mind uploading that pic of nascar again? I seem to have lost it on my computer, or never saved it.
Is there any chance you could take some nice pictures of Driver : Parallel Lines Limited Edition? I'm trying to track this down for the ps2, and I'm most likely not gonna find it new, so a used copy will have to do, but having trouble findind what all it comes with and how it looks etc. I think i might even own parts of the set already!
NASCAR 07 (w/ Slipcover)
God I hope this doesn't exist for the ps2, the limited edition one is hard enough to find.
World Series of Poker (w/ Slipcover) I just recently found this existed for the ps2, so annoyed I didn't find this earlier.
Did Need for Speed Carbon not get a limited edition like the ps2?
I know a slip cover version exists for GTA:SA, but its only canadian, and ps2 of course, perhaps there might be a xbox version? (not talking about the special edition either)
You should make a list of the combo games for the xbox you know of, or own, maybe in its own section, for others that are trying to track them down, good idea? If not :-p
Like, NCAA Football 2005/Topspin Combo and im sure countless other ones.

...those that came in a double case (Dead or Alive Ultimate or GTA Trilogy).
Why are you calling that a double case? Doesn't seem like a very descriptive term for the fold out cardboard/plastic case that GTA Trilogy shipped in.
To me, calling it a double case implies that it shipped in two normal DVD cases with an outer cardboard cover. And that isn't the case for what I own and what I can find pictures of.

Was there a variant of the trilogy release that came in two DVD cases? Seems like an odd way to package a collection that was on three DVD's.

I think he meant to say Grand Theft Auto : The Xbox Collection as a double case. The ps2 version is 2 case's + cardboard thingy to hold them together, and I'm assuming the xbox version is exactly the same.

I don't think so on the Need for Speed Carbon. That was about the same time as the 360 versions were coming out, so I doubt they would spend the extra cash to come out with a limited edition for the regular. And the GTA:SA I have no idea about.
I'm actually trying to get one combo verified at the moment. I belive it's a Canadian release. The list of Combo's is actually quite short. However you do have a bunch of Sonic and Shrek combos in Greatest Hits... I'll post a list of what I know Sunday. I'm about to leave for a one day vacation.

That shrek freaking watch is killing me too, it exists for the ps2. :( You got a picture of the watch? I know what the front of the case looks like for my copy.
Btw, what is special or not so special about the ihra drag racing game?
For the outlaw volley ball game, I swear I seen a variant version for the ps2, with a 3 person cover instead of the normal 2 person cover. Those 2 being on the xbox, might confirm my memory, the stupid pal version is sorta like the variant version im looking for and failing to find!, i should have snagged it when I saw it. :(
Now I also wonder if a sonic riders with bonus dvd exists for the ps2. I hope not, cause I've had enough trouble tracking down stuff recently.
Btw im down to my last 297 games needed for the ps2, and of course, plus 100's(prolly more like 300+ or more) of variants, still its nice cracking a barrier and getting that much closer. :)

HAHAHA! Read 'em and weap fella's! It was my wifes idea to paint the bedroom xbox colors. However she wanted the celing green and the walls black more like an xbox. I wanted the walls green so the shadow box and shelves stood out better. We still need to finish the dresser...

Ha! The Shrek watch is a recent addition to the collection. I'll send you a pm and tell you how it's done...
The IHRA is a game I know little about. I know to get a copy, it's going to run you about $40 and its a toss up on the condition. It's pretty stinkin' rare. I found my copy in Albuquerque NM. The game store apparently couldn't find it in their list of games so they slaped an IHRA Professional Drag Racing 2005 on it for $3 bucks. I almost passed out trying to grab for it.
I stumbled upon the Sonic by complete accident. I was searching for xbox DVD samplers like ebay # 140529731963 or 230600293505. I found someone listing Sonic with a DVD. The guy probably thought I was a freak because I had him take a picture of the dvd and that's all I was intrested in. Lol.
I'm down to 154 xbox titles with 127 more titles being variants. So 281 more games? Most of the ones I need are $2-$3 dollar commons that I can't find complete or in a conditon I'll accept.

A local Big Lots was selling that IHRA game in one of your pictures for $4 last year (IHRA Drag Racing: Sportsman Edition). Picked up a copy at the time. Never thought it was anything of real value.
It's actually desirable?

I wonder if the games with a Microsoft company store label saying "Microsoft Company Store Purchase. Not to Be Sold" are worth any more than their retail counterpart? The reason I ask is that I have a job in Redmond and I see original Xbox games out there all the time. I found two games with these stickers, but no employee number was written in the blank.

To a variant collector.... maybe. It's just how MS marked those games so their employees couldn't go and resell them back to GameStop and make money on it. They arn't special for any other reason. Most people would think that they are degrading the value of the game.

I'm with Stu, i don't think they're worth anything more then the normal versions. They were produced in such a small quantity that they'd be impossible to track down.
The exception may be Halo, just for the die hard collectors. Possibly some of the other launch games, just for people who want to complete a launch team xbox and are missing the games. (ProTip: even all of the launch team games didn't come with "Not For Resale" on them).

About how many not for resale games could exist on the xbox?
Would the xbox hold the record for not for resale games, or is there another system with more? (like I know the ps2 has maybe 15-30 tops, that are known to me)

Microsoft stopped printing them for their employees at some point and just started using normal cover art. It was sometime between halo 1 and halo 2, but I don't know exactly when the practice ended.

I wish my Big Lots had sold xbox games... If in fact it is the Sportsmand Edition, then yes, it has some value. If it's still sealed, its got much more than $4. I'm not sure about desirable or not, I'm not much into Drag... Lol.

I found a Top Spin with a Microsoft Company Store sticker on it at a Goodwill today, the 3rd stickered item I've found in the Los Angeles area. I also have a Halo 2 and a sealed Media Extender which were found at a different Goodwill at different times. And yet another Goodwill provided me a NFR MS store Halo.

Of course, being a crazy collector and not like most people, this sticker being left on the Halo 2 I found only enhances the value to me. ;)

Here's what I do know. The sticker is permanent and ugly. I have a few for my collection and if I hadn't paid $3 each for them, I wouldn't have as many as I do. They are not centered and often upside down. Next, the posibility of taking the game/artwork/inst. out and puting in a rare game is so simple, you will never know unless you actually were an employee and bought the game yourself. If you will, take a brief moment and look at my collection...

Notice that Sneakers has a sticker as well? Wasn't that a Toys R Us exclusive? Would it still be sold at the Microsoft store?
I did however find out that unless you were an employee, you couldn't purchase...

Is the sticker on the case or the paper insert? If it's on the case the game could have been swapped at some point. I've come across a few games with those stickers on them but I passed as they were too expensive and I thought ugly because of the stickers.

Paper insert. THE MS store isn't stupid. Putting them on a case would just let them switch them out and sell em. They slapped them on and wrote down their employee numbers on the stickers.

Maxx I've got a list compiled of possible variants/soundtracks, bonus disc, etc that might interest you, I know that's not what your topic is about...., but at the very least you might find something you never know about, or something to keep tabs on, just in case they pop up.
Do you want me to go a ahead and post it? I'm 99.98% sure you aren't gonna find more collectors editions, box sets etc. You should have all that there is to know by now, with the possible freak Canadian variant out there. We or You could start another topic for variants, but I think that's a lame idea, its much nicer to keep collectors stuff + variants for the collectors all in one topic if you catch my drift, your call though.
Btw, I nabbed this little beauty on ebay a day ago. :)

I had to pay $15+ for shipping from the guy, he wouldn't budge on it, so in a way I feel a bit jipped off, but its something I need and wanted for quite a while and can scratch that off the list.

I have never seen an employee ID number written on the white stickers. Originally Microsoft printed custom inserts for the games that had a "Not for Resale" next to the ESRB tag. After a while they just started slapping stickers on the standard retail games.

Must be something in the air...found 2 more MS store-stickered games today, another Halo 2 and NCAA Football 2005/Top Spin. Halo 2 is blank; NCAA/TS has an employee number. The other Halo 2 I have actually has the person's name written in, the media extender has an employee number and Top Spin has the number blacked out. All of the stickers are on the cases and not the inserts.

That's quite an impressive Xbox collection and room. Any reason in particular why you chose to collect for that console?
Thank you. Back in like 2003, I notice that I was getting quite a collection of xbox games (40 or so) and I mentioned to a friend that I had more than he did. He told me that he had sold more xbox game than I had. Then it became more like a dare... Boy I sure showed him!

I was like you, started thinking it would be cool to collect all the games for it.Then I got to over 600 games, 6 systems[ halo,mt dew, crystal, original ect ], controllers, guns, every demo discs made, steel battalion crap, special editions, all that was left was crap games. then I said to myself , why do i want to own crap games? I don't... So I stop, Let face it nobody is going say your collection is worth more if it's completed with crap games...With my ps2 collection and ps1, ps3, XBOX 360 Really no room left anyway.@_@

every demo discs made,
I find that hard to believe considering that me and Maxx compiled the original complete list of all Xbox demos and I have since found demos that were not known at the time. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing your completed list minus the OXM magazine demos to see if I'm missing anything else.
