Which Playstation 2 model is the best?

Hey everyone! I just broke my PS2 by ripping the fan connector off of the motherboard! hurrrr...

Anyways, which model PS2 was the best? The one that i broke was the scph-50001.

I went ahead and ordered a replacement mobo for it and a new fan, but it got me wondering what one was the best?

Why don't you just solder the two fan wires directly to the motherboard?

And to answer your question, the slim PS2 just gets better with each revision, and the latest one is probably the best PS2 ever.

Well, I was definately going to recommend the slim as it's much more reliable. But just recently I finally managed to tear off the silver cable connecting the cover on my ancient fatty while cleaning and adjusting the DVD laser. Thats when I discovered that my Action Replay, GameShark or X-Port don't work with the slims! I'd still recommend owning the slim for everyday use, but I think having at least one fatty around for game exploiting/saving is nice to have.

Action Replay works fine on my slim. It's the only PS2 I've ever had.

i was told v3 are the best in many people's eye, the 50001 is best because it is the quiet on with the best cooling and laser, and some say that the slim is good, but does not support hard drive capability.

from what I have gathered after more looking around, the best model fat to have is the scph-50001. Best cooling, Strong laser, built in ir for remote.

50001, no doubt. Mine's been running strong ever since I got it, no problems ever. And mine's been moved around a lot and seen plenty of use.

5001's are the bigges POS I have ever seen. It was the model where Sony officially supported DVD+-R/W and the lasers aren't up to snuff. I have a 39001 I have had since it came out and never had to do anything to it yet. The 3001's are utter trash as well. I have around 10 broken 5001's if you need parts LOL

Wouldn't a new, retail boxed PS2 be the most reliable rather than another model (which at this point would be used)? Seems like common sense to me.

I'm still waiting for the slims to hit $49.99, like the PS1 did a few years ago. I'll be buying a couple to keep on deck for when my fatty and silver slim finally break down.

The slim, although my black U.S. one still makes a horrible grinding noise when trying to play blue-bottomed discs like Gradius III & IV. I don't know why.

i picked up a 75001 slim today. I will probably box the 50001 when i get it put back together to keep it in good shape.

The backwards compatible PS3s are pretty awesome for playing PS2 games. I've got over a hundred PS2 games, and the nearly unlimited storage for PS2 saves alone is a lifesaver. You can also copy saves back to a for real memory card if you want to play a game elsewhere.

I prefer my fat PS2. I don't know the model number, but it's the one that came with Gran Turismo 3.

I've got an 80GB in it and am using a save file exploit. I don't use pirated games. I just install my own games to the HDD. They load a little quicker, little quieter and I don't worry about wearing out the laser. The PS2 itself though is loud as a truck. It's no 360 sound wise, but man... it's trying.

My SCPH-70011 (slim) has been running like a champ ever since I bought it. Never had a problem.

Have you tried Free McBoot? That's what I'm using and I have a 160GB drive installed in my PS2 Fatty to use with HDLoader (41 games installed) which can be installed with FMCB.

39001 with the HD7 laser.

Quoted for truth. This is by far the most reliable "large" model PS2 built. Personally I have a V5/6(30001-R) and a V9(50001) and both have never given me any problems but if I had the choice I'd get a 39001 without hesistation.

I have a slim model I got back in 06 and it works perfectly and has only frozen up once. It runs smoothly and after several hundred hours of use it has never crashed or ruined any of my discs.

update: I just got the scph-50001 motherboard and fan, installed it, and everything is working great! I noticed that the drivers on the new mobo are more recent than the old 50001, weird huh?
